From what I've read on my favorite teacher message board, I know my school day is on the longer side in the U.S. The elementary students in my district go from 7:30 to 3:00 177 days per school year. The average time in the classroom in the U.S. Is 900-1000 hours per year. That puts us at about 1300 hours.
How long are school days in your area?

Our first bell rings at 7:45. Tardy bell is at 7:50. We have a recess 9:50-10:10. Lunch is 12:20-12:50. Last period of the day gets out at 2:20. I don't really want to figure out how many minutes. We go for 180 days.

My girls go from 8:20-3:20. They get two 15 min recesses and a 30 min lunch period (15 min to eat and 15 min outside).
I just saw something on the news this week about how many schools are starting too early in the day and how this is leading to a lot of health problems for children. The report said that in order to get to a 7 something start time many kids have to wake up at 5:45 or thereabouts, which we need to start recognizing is too early.

At high school level, from 8:25 to 3:05 for 180 days. That's 1200 hours per year.

School here is approx 9 am to 3 pm (bell times vary slightly between the 3 schools my girls will be at next year.. adding 10-20 minutes/day). For the 2015-2016 school year we have 197 days of school. = 1182 hours (actually closer to 1200).

My brain needs all the break it can get, I have mom brain starting up too. Going to be an awesome year teaching middle grades math. Lol

Elementary schools are 8-2:30. Middle and high schools are 8:30-3:30. Students get 25 minute lunches. We have 185 instructional days in the year. We typically have six early release days each year which takes off 2.5 hours per day of instruction. Not counting the early release days we have 1295 hours of instruction.

Elementary kids go from 8:30 - 3:15. Junior high kids go from 8:00 - 2:45.
On Wednesday each school gets out 45 minutes earlier and teachers have meetings and professional development.

Elementary: 8:30-2:50 Middle: 9:00-3:30 High School: not sure but I think it's 7:20 (yuck) to about 2:00. Way to early!
When I went to middle/ high school it was 7:45-2:20, also way too early.

We have a really dumb (IMO) school day here. We don't have one lunch, we have two "nutrition breaks" every day. Plus two recesses and one daily DPA (Daily Physical Activity) block for 20 minutes.
So typically this is how my kids' day goes in Elementary school:
8:25 First bell 8:40 - 10:25 Learning Block 1 (plus 20 minute DPA as per class teacher) 10:25 - 11:05 First Nutrition Break and Recess 11:10 - 1:25 Learning Block 2 (plus 20 minute DPA as per class teacher) 1:30 - 2:10 Nutrition Break and Recess 2:15 - 2:45 Learning block 3 and dismissal.
The schedule is nuts and my kids hate having two lunch breaks. I wish they'd go back to 2 15 minute recesses and then an hour lunch from 12-1 or 12:30 - 1:30. It's really difficult for parents to pack lunches this way and it really does make no sense to any of us.

Elementary school here starts at 8:40 and ends at 3:10, but the bus ride to and from school tacks on another 40 minutes to the day each way. So drop off to pick up, we're looking at roughly 8:00-4:00 and that's for grades K-6.

Dd (jr high) goes from 8:40am - 3:15pm. 4 minute passing periods (20min total) and 25 min lunch. So about 6 hours total. 180 days a year. Some haof days. I guess we would be about 1,000 hours.
Ds (3rd grade sdc) goes from 7:40am - 1:50pm. 3 recesses (before school, morning, afternoon) and lunch with recess. 180 days. So about 6 hours.
Ds and the sdc kids also receive 4 weeks of extended school year. 4 hours for 20 days. One recess. So 70 hours maybe?

I was just reading an article about TCU partnering with one of the large districts in DFW to do a research study about recess. They are going to do 4 15 minute recesses throughout the day and see how it effects learning. Those recesses would be in addition to the required 135 minutes per week of PE.

I would like it in the elementary school.

As I've said before my girls went to a small rural school district. They went 4 days a wk, with Mondays off. Everyone goes 8-4:30 every day. In the elementary section, they do several breaks, and snack times. In the HS they get one snack break, but ea class is longer, so they get to spend more time in ea class and with ea teacher. Everyone loves it.

High school is 7:11-2:20 M-T-Th-F and 7:11-1:20 on Wednesday. They have seven classes. I think elementary is 8:50-3:55 & 8:50-2:55. I don't recall middle school, but the length of day is about the same and the Times are in between hs and ele. Middle school has 6 classes.

8:28am to 3:28pm 187-190 days a year. We are a feeder school on a Compressed School Week. Which means that kids from our area have to be bussed to the next town for grades 9-12, since they would have to get to our school early enough to transfer to the other school then everyone has to be there that much earlier. And at the end of the day our school has to wait for the grades 9-12s to come back from the other town to catch their bus and head home. So the K-8 kids are here doing nothing and they decided to just extend the day. As a result we get 14 extra days off a year! Between those days, PD days, stat holiday days we rarely have a 5 days school week.

In our area the elementary schools are 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. High school is 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Kids are bussed to the high school from all over the area and I know some of the kids who live furthest away have to get on the bus at 7 in the morning.
