Have you noticed more people taking summer vacations this year?
Far and away, more people that I work with are taking vacations this year than any time I can remember since 2007, and many of them are quite substantial vacations. Work & decisions/hiring have slowed to a crawl because of how many people are taking weeks out this month. Obviously a very small sample size, but it seems very noticeable to me versus past years.
Are you noticing more vacations this year, or is it pretty similar to the last couple of years in your world?
I googled it and did find some stats:

I think most of us in the North had such a brutal winter last year that everyone planned a vacation while it was -20 degrees outside!!! haha.
We always go on a beach vacation in the summer because we own a timeshare but have also taken a couple extra weekend trips this year.

Yes, I have noticed it in my Facebook feed. LOL. And dh and I just got back from a whirlwind trip to the Southwestern US over the past 2 and a half weeks. We began planning it late last fall and winter. It does seem like many more are taking real vacations this year, too, rather than a quick weekend getaway.

Everyone I know travels as much as they can during the summer. I haven't seen much of a difference from previous years. But I also work with a group that takes every available vacation day possible. There is no "I can't get away for a vacation because I am too busy" in our office. We take every second we can, when we want to. I'd enjoy the lull at work even if you're not taking time off... that's what I do! There will be time enough for decisions and other dreariness to be made when people come back.

I haven't noticed much difference among friends and people I work with, except that two got married this month so have honeymoons. I haven't looked at wider stats, so for me, much the same. Only difference is I'm taking one less vacation this year than normal!

We are taking a 7 day vacation next week. It's the first more than 3 night vacation we have had in years.
I work rural health care and most employees don't take a real vacation because they can't afford it. In fact I was talking to our CEO about it a few weeks ago because we both have vacations planned for July and we feel bad for the employees that just can't do it. We encourage them to take a few days off during the Summer but when your making low wages it's tough. We actually increased many of our employees wages above the industry standard this year in hopes to give them some extra money but it's still hard for them. Vacations is definatly a luxury around here.

We went on our biggest vacation yet this summer.
I am covering for 3 people at work right now while they are on vacation.
Yes, I think the economy is doing better & more people are going this summer.

Well I know that we aren't generally the type to take a vacation. Just not a lot of extra money here and we actually got away to Vegas for four days. It was a nice mini vacation. We will take a couple of days off work early next month for a little family reunion too. But that's just driving and staying with family.

My kids and I are visiting my Mom in Florida. While I do not consider it a true vacation; it is the first time we have gotten away in years. So I guess I agree with your observation.

I don't see an increase for those around me or myself. I love the news when they say how they expect gas to go down 10 cents in the next month. Yeah so, $1.50 I'll save on a tankful. That will go towards the increase in everything else! I have to stick to my day trips or the occasional overnight.

We have always gone on 3 trips (each 5 hours) to visit family every summer since we've been married.
Then we go one a month long vacation to the beach (8 hrs. away)! It's just the 5 of us and it's wonderful! We sacrifice all year to be able to make this work. So it's a pain throughout the year when we can't go out to dinner much, or buy much but it's so worth it when we are there.

It definitely seems like everyone I know (except for us!) are going on tons of nice vacations. I'm not particularly griping, we did get a nice 5 days at the beach, but it's still tough when everyone else seems to be posting from vacation. One friend has been gone for 2.5 weeks to Florida (Disney, then a week with just her husband), is currently in Hawaii for a week with just her husband, and then is going somewhere else for about 2 weeks later on this summer. I'm not jealous...except that I am...you know what I mean...

Yes. My DH is usually too busy to take time off for vacation. This summer we took a 5 day trip in June and are taking another one at the end of August.

DH and I usually get away for a Winter trip just the 2 of us then every summer we do a big vacation with the kids. This year it's an Alaskan Cruise! We leave in a week. I'd say the people I know are doing the same amount of vacations as normal for them.

Are the gas prices lower than usual? They seem low to me, but we flew last year and this time we drove. I didn't see a hike around the 4th of July like I expected.

We are taking a 6 day (maybe 5) road trip which is unheard of for us. We usually just take a 3 day weekend somewhere locally. We leave next week and we're so excited!

Unemployment is really low in our area-freeways are much more congested the last 6 months. I know very few people who are not taking a vacation, it's definitely a sign of a healthy local economy.

It is an increase for us over last year but that is because medical issues replaced vacations last year. This year, we have already gone on one vacation with friends and have another one coming up soon. Ever since DH changed jobs about 7-8 years ago, we have tried to take one or two vacations every year. Prior to this, he was never able to take off for more than a long weekend so I never traveled with him. I still took vacations but I went with other friends. While those were fun, I am glad DH can finally take vacations. The first 17ish years we were married, only two times was DH able to take a full week off.......one week shortly after we were married for a delayed honeymoon and once about 5 years after that. Since he was 100% commission, those vacations cost us a lot of money. It would cost him the better part of 2 months pay plus the cost of the vacation.
We have already made a deposit on one vacation next year (celebrating our 25th anniversary) and tomorrow will make the deposit on another vacation with friends. So, at least two trips next year.
