Hmmm...I was hoping to find a bunch of positive responses and recipes in here. We're going on an epic camping trip soon and won't always have refrigeration. Trying to figure out what to eat then.

My Mom used to cook with it all the time. The taste never bothered me. However, I could tell the difference between a certain store brand and the name brand. DH says he can tell and doesn't like it so I don't use it anymore.

I used it in chicken salad last time I made it and it ruined it. It was way too salty and I had to throw it out. My DH, who will eat almost anything said "please don't buy any more canned chicken".
It's a no in our household.

Shredded chicken sandwiches! For all the people all skeeved out: do you eat chicken that is in canned chicken noodle soup? Do you eat canned tuna or albacore? Do you eat canned beef vegetable soup? Do you eat lunch meat? Do you eat Spam? Do you eat canned corned beef? How is this different? No I don't eat any of these. Not because I'm above it mind you but I love cooking, have the time and just prefer to make it fresh. It was in reference to the posts with the barfing emoji's

I went to a bingo party recently and had THE best chicken salad sandwiches I've ever eaten. I asked the hostess for her recipe, and she used canned chicken. I never would have guessed!

No. I hate the texture. I would much rather buy a rotisserie chicken for a short cut in chicken salad or other recipes.
For the record I don't like canned tuna for the same reason.

I buy the canned chicken at aldis add a bit of mayo and sliced grapes and my friends rave about my chicken salad! Chicken salad with walnuts or pecans and craisins is wonderful too. This is how I eat canned chicken

Costco carries their own brand of it. We used to buy it. I would rather buy the rotisserie chicken instead.

I do! I only buy it from sam's club because i"m very picky! I use it in my "famous" buffalo chicken dip, chicken salad and add a can whenever the meal I've prepared needs more. (think chicken noodle soup or trader joe's frozen chicken chow mein) My whole family loves it!

I use it in the same crockpot recipes that use Velveeta and cream of whatever soup. I know! They let ANYONE sign up and use this site! At least I'll have company if I'm shunned for admitting my canned chicken recipe I use it to make hot chicken sandwiches. Large can of chicken, box of stovetop and a cream of crap soup.....all in the crockpot until warm.

Like so many others, it's a staple in my house. I buy the six-pack at Sam's. Originally the purchase was part of a hurricane/emergency supplies, but once I made chicken salad with it, it became a regular thing. DH and DS fight over it!

It's not my favorite for most recipes because of the texture. But DH likes it in chicken pasta salad, so I buy it for that. Usually the store brand, it's almost always significantly cheaper than Hormel and tastes the same. I also add a few cans to our emergency ration stockpile every year, along with a few bags of Bear Creek brand soup mix packets because you can cook them on a camp stove with just water (doesn't need milk or anything perishable) and the chicken makes it more of a meal. If we end up not needing it, we'll still eat the soup at some point and it tastes just fine.
IMO, it's a lot more expensive than fresh chicken cooked at home, or even rotisserie chicken, so I don't use it in most recipes that call for cooked chicken meat.

I use canned chicken breast meat for casseroles, soup or chicken quesadillas.
I find it in the grocery store on the canned meat aisle, near the tuna, canned ham etc.

No. I used to occasionally, though I don't remember what for. But it got to the point where it just grossed me out, too mushy and smelly.

I have never bought canned chicken in my life. I may have eaten it, but not knowingly! That. Actually I don't think I would know where to find canned chicken in the supermarket if I did want it. Nor me. I've never ever seen it. I've just looked at Tesco's website and they've got one variety on there Tulip chicken breast it's listed with the canned ham!

I buy the SAMs club brand and keep it in my pantry for my kids. They mix a can of it with 5 ounces of cream cheese, 1 tablespoon of chives and a pinch of pepper and eat it on crackers. I also use it for quesadilla when camping.

I use it occasionally for chicken salad but really keep it on hand for a quick, I don't feel like cooking tonight, one pot dinner: 1 can chicken, 1 can cream of whatever soup (chicken, mushroom, etc.), and any of the following you may have on hand - water chestnuts, bean sprouts, baby corn or anything chinese-y and serve over chinese noodles!

This weekend, mom was telling me how awesome it is. Not gelatinous or mushy at all. If you use it, what recipes/dishes ? And which brands or other suggestions do you have? There's definitely a mush factor. I think it is nasty, but I have used it in a buffalo chicken dip recipe.

I bought some last week because it surprisingly had less calories, fat and sodium than the tuna offerings at the store where I was. I made it just liked tuna salad. It was good.

Never. It's not available here. I'm sure it's no worse than canned tuna, but to be honest the idea of canned chicken makes my stomach churn.

I eat canned tuna,it comes as tuna chunks or tune flakes over here with a choice of in sunflower oil,in Brine or in spring water. But after reading this report a couple of months ago I'm thinking your canned tuna isn't anything like ours either and I've never boiled chicken ever, and know no one that does. The only thing I would ever boil from the chicken is the carcass to make stock with. They do sell spam here but I've never bought it and never tasted it. It's just a can of processed bits of pork & ham by my understanding... urgh!

I have eaten it when I lived in the states. It was common in the supermarket. Friends used it to make a chicken salad sandwich, which was like shop made Tuna crunch with fruit and with chicken. I found it alittle mushy and wet. I've only seen it canned in m & s.

I have a chicken dip that I make that I use canned chicken for
It is 2 packages of cream cheese softened 1 dry packet of ranch dip one can chicken
stir or mix with a mixer until well combined. It is a huge hit at parties and the kids love it when I have some made up in the fridge for snacking after school. Works well with pretty much any cracker you like.
Also, there is a Gumbo dry soup mix (can't recall the brand right now though) that I get at Publix. I make the soup per the directions (though I do 2 at a time at our house so everyone can have seconds and some for leftovers) I slice up a 1 lb smoked sausage and dump one can of chicken in to make it a little meatier. It is a HUGE hit and a super easy, super fast meal for a busy week night during the fall/winter.
But those are the only 2 things I use it for.

Haven't read all the replies but yes I have! I usually just get the Great Value brand from Walmart. We mainly use it in a chicken noodle casserole.
