Nor me. I've never ever seen it. I've just looked at Tesco's website and they've got one variety on there Tulip chicken breast it's listed with the canned ham! M&S sell canned chicken breast, I haven't tried it but know people who really like it. It's with the tinned ham, corn beef, chopped pork etc. I might have to try it from there then. just to satisfy my curiosity as to what it would taste like ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/TKS2q_7siLiFtq0xPQvx.jpg)

Shredded chicken sandwiches! For all the people all skeeved out: do you eat chicken that is in canned chicken noodle soup? Do you eat canned tuna or albacore? Do you eat canned beef vegetable soup? Do you eat lunch meat? Do you eat Spam? Do you eat canned corned beef? How is this different? I eat corn beef but your corn beef isn't the same as ours over here. I eat canned tuna,it comes as tuna chunks or tune flakes over here with a choice of in sunflower oil,in Brine or in spring water. But after reading this report a couple of months ago I'm thinking your canned tuna isn't anything like ours either ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) and I've never boiled chicken ever, and know no one that does. The only thing I would ever boil from the chicken is the carcass to make stock with. They do sell spam here but I've never bought it and never tasted it. It's just a can of processed bits of pork & ham by my understanding... urgh! You'd be surprised how tasty boiled chicken can be! I put some chicken base in the water with a couple of herbs and spices, and once it's boiled I pull it, put it in the pan and fry it a bit with cumin, salt and pepper and it makes delicious fajita chicken!

I have never bought canned chicken in my life. I may have eaten it, but not knowingly! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg) That. Actually I don't think I would know where to find canned chicken in the supermarket if I did want it. That was my first thought on reading the thread title. I've never seen it, granted I'm not looking for it. Might keep my eyes peeled the next time I'm in the supermarket although I don't intend to buy any.

I love it! I have used it for years to make chicken salad, and some other dishes. Laugh if you want, but my favorite brand is one that I get at Dollar Tree, called White Kitchen. I personally don't think it tastes or smells like tuna nor do I find it to be salty. I do find it to be flavorful and quick and handy.
I remember the first time my husband invited me over to his 'bachelor pad' when we were first dating, for dinner. He made me the best meal and I have had him make it for me several times since.
He boiled a bag of frozen ravioli and drained, sauteed some onions and canned mushrooms, and mixed it together with a jar of Alfredo sauce and that canned chicken. Served it with garlic toast. It was delicious!
I still have him make this or I make it sometimes and add some thawed frozen broccoli to it. Quick and easy and yummy.

Yes, use it in chicken salad and any main dish that calls for cooked chicken. It's not quite as good as chicken that's been grilled or baked, but it's fine.

Yes. I also use it in my chicken salad. I add mayo, craisins, celery, and the canned chicken to a bowl and lunch is served! My family loves it, and I have never found it to be salty. I will admit that I have enjoyed my chicken salad more if I use grilled chicken, but sometimes I just need to be able to open a can and be done with it. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

The thought of it makes me ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/c2qi57qoGpXKdFvBtXdt.jpg) I would have said this exact same thing until I had it somewhere. Now I always have a few cans on hand. I usually buy it at Sams, but sometimes at the grocery store, Swanson or Hormel are the ones I usually buy there. My favorite thing to make with it is bbq pineapple chicken quesadillas. They are SO good! These sandwiches are quick and easy, and a favorite of my husband and kids. 1/2 C onion, finely chopped 1 C cheddar cheese, grated, divided 1 can (10 oz)chunk white chicken, drained & flaked 1/4 C mayonnaise 1 TBL southwestern seasoning 1 garlic clove pressed Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine chicken, onion, 1/2 the cheese, mayo, seasoning and garlic; Mix well Divide mixture onto rolls, top with rest of cheese. Bake 15-18 mins or til golden brown.

I have eaten canned chicken in the past and it is good. I've used it in chicken salad, sandwiches, casseroles and soups. Last year I started pressure canning my own chicken when it has gone on sale. OMG it is soooooo good. So tender and flavorful.

I've had it once or twice, but the texture is gross. Mushy, like someone has already chewed it some.
Hijack, my husband recently bought a sous vide cooker. On Amazon Prime day. Apparently he had wanted it for a long time, but couldn't justify the cost, until then.
The texture of the food the sous vide is exactly like the canned chicken: already chewed.
Ugh. It cooks food at a low temperature, in water. The food is in a ziplock bag, and this device regulates the water temperature.
He made scrambled eggs, they tasted undercooked. He made chicken breasts, they were mush. Then he made pulled pork. Ugh.
Texture. It's a thing of mine. I cannot stand mushy, gross meat.

Slight hijack:
Has anyone seen a whole canned chicken? A friend of mine was using one to make dinner one day when I was at her house. She pulled a WHOLE CHICKEN out of that large can!! I almost puked! I ate the crepes she made using it and they were good but a whole chicken in a can??! I've seen them in the grocery store so someone is using them.
My grandma told me when she was young they canned chicken on the day they butchered them. Of course she was raised on a farm. It was a huge process using a pressure canner and she said it was quite good.

Never. It's not available here. I'm sure it's no worse than canned tuna, but to be honest the idea of canned chicken makes my stomach churn. Ummm...where have you been? Of course it's available here, in just about every supermarket. Right next to the canned fish usually. We even have "home brands"...I have one of the Woolworths Select ones in my pantry right now.
Plus the large cans are also available at Costco. I don't mind it, especially the small cans, great when you want a quick snack on some crackers. I have bought the larger cans and I usually eat that cold just with a salad.
As for "boiled' chicken, I prefer to call it poached and I make that a bit too, but only with skin off chicken breasts. I use chicken stock add some garlic and a few herbs. My fool proof method is to put the chicken breasts into the cold stock, bring to boil, simmer for 15 mins (with a lid on the pot) and then turn the heat off and leave until cold. Perfectly cooked every time and very moist. I actually keep using the same stock over and over, once cool, I strain it, and then put it in the freezer for the next time. I use the cooked breast in a variety of ways (chicken pasta, cold in salads, add to soup etc)
My version of the 'shredded chicken salad' for sandwiches is: I mash some avocado (half if it's a large one or a whole small one) add a 2 tablespoons of mayo (I often use 'dijonnaise' which is mayo with Dijon mustard already mixed in) and 2 tablespoons of low fat sour cream, mix and season with salt and pepper and a small squeeze of lemon or lime. Then I finely slice a spring (green) onion and also finely slice a couple of sticks of celery...add those both to the avocado mix, then add one shredded (or sometimes I just chop into cubes) poached chicken breast and mix it all well. Then I make a sandwich with fresh whole grain bread and lettuce, ...delicious! ETA: this is a cold sandwich and I use the cold chicken breasts, not hot like some of the ones already posted.

Where have I been? Well, I have been avoiding the revolting canned chicken for starters!!!! ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg) Now that you mention it I do recall some kind of canned chicken in mayo that I bought about a year ago. The kids thought it was just about the most revolting thing they'd ever eaten so I've never bought it since. I have never seen big cans of plain chicken though, and that's what I thought people here were talking about. I also poach my own chicken every week for sandwiches. Sometimes I do a whole chicken so I get some home made stock as well, sometimes I might just poach a few chicken breast fillets.

AussieMeg - I'm not a fan of the flavoured ones either (with mayo etc...I'll add that myself if I want it) Just like the canned tuna and salmon, the plain ones in 'spring water' are OK though. I've only seen the big tins (like the biggest tuna cans we have) at Costco. I would have definitely thought you'd be a member considering how close you are.

It's a staple in my hurricane supply stash. I replace all my supplies every spring, so I use the "old" (still within the 'best by' dates) to make chicken salad. I buy the Kirkland brand and my chicken salad always turns out tasty. My family always knows when it's "pre hurricane" season... chicken salad and tuna salad for dinner, new snacks appear in the pantry, new jars of pb appear, there's plenty of bottled water, and there are actually batteries in the kitchen drawer

No. I hate the texture. I would much rather buy a rotisserie chicken for a short cut in chicken salad or other recipes. For the record I don't like canned tuna for the same reason. I like the mush of canned chicken. You completely summed up what I wanted to say. For exactly the opposite reasons. Thank you. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

Funny, I would never dream of using it in chicken salad. That sounds gross to me for some reason. I used to cook my own but now I use rotisserie.
I do use canned chicken for chicken noodle casserole and buffalo chicken dip.
I think I need to make both tomorrow now. Yum!

I am very weird about meat in general. I guess it's really odd of me that I like processed meat better than fresh. For example; I can eat a turkey sandwich made with lunchmeat from a package from the store, but I cannot deal with the taste of leftover turkey. I can't eat reheated meat, like chicken, turkey or roast beef. Yet I love Spam, canned chicken, stuff like that. I don't understand it. I like to eat healthy as a rule and canned meat is so full of preservatives and whatnot you'd think that would be the opposite of what I like. Go figure!

I've never bought plain tinned chicken, but I usually have a tin or two of Marks and Spencer's tinned chicken curries in the larder. Very handy for camping and when DH is fending for himself for a night. I'm not opposed to the idea and might pick up a pack at Costco when I'm next there after reading about that brand in this thread. I'm just back from a camping trip and wish I'd had some with me. When I make chicken soup from scratch after having a roast chicken, I don't always have as much left over chicken to add to it as I would like so a tin would be handy. We usually have some delicious leftover curry sauce when we get an Indian carry out, as DS doesn't eat the sauce that comes with his dish. I freeze it thinking it will be useful but normally end up chucking it out a wee while later. A tin of chicken would be perfect for stretching the leftovers the day after a carry out. I can definitely see potential...!
As for whole tinned chicken: my mum had a surprisingly small tin considering what was in it, that lurked at the back of a kitchen cupboard and moved with us from house to house through the seventies and eighties before finally being chucked out. It was bought in the early seventies for emergency rations during a time of frequent power cuts, but I don't think my mum could ever face the thought of eating it and serving it, for which I am very grateful.
