I have 2 friends that take Mobic, and they are thrilled with the pain relief!  I'm happy for them, and I've considered asking my doc for an RX ; however, I'm concerned about the long-term risks of ALL NSAIDS! My hip & foot pain are so bad sometimes---I do stretches, ice, and heat, and whirpool baths with lotsa Epsom salts---and the times I can't stand it anymore, I'll take 4 Motrin (rarely) .....All of this helps, l, but sometimes I wish I could live on strong Narcotics....(forget NSAIDs...gimme the serrrrious stuff---just kidding!!!) just to be totally pain free for a day!!! I'm going to be giving PT another try, too, and wearing a boot for my foot issues, I pray it works this time!!! What's your experience? Are you and/or your doctor concerned about long-term use? |

I have been taking NSAIDS daily for many years. I took Relafen for many years, and switched to Mobic about two years ago. I like it because I only have to take it once a day. I don't think about the long-term effects, and I do have blood tests for my liver and kidney functions annually to make sure I'm not experiencing any decrease in function.
I wouldn't say my pain is 100% gone, but I am much more comfortable. I prefer taking an NSAID to a narcotic pain reliever any day. For one thing, narcotics may alleviate pain, but they aren't actually addressing the inflammation that is causing it.

I can't really respond on the long term effects, but my doctor did put me on Mobic for my endometriosis pain. And it really helped. No narcotic would even touch the pain. I eventually had a hysterectomy, but that was my favorite drug!  |

I just started taking mobic last month and also using Voltaren cream when needed (hips/thigh/knee/foot = all on one side) and it has made a world of difference.
So far no problems with my stomach. I have had chronic gastritis and ulcers about 18 months ago. The ulcers healed but the gastritis continued for a while. But I do need something for the physical pain of my foot to thigh and have done physical therapy and had tried many other things to help with the pain. I have repeated injuries on that one side.

I've taken Ibuprofen, Motrin or Voltaren for years to treat my chronic back pain (due to a herniated and bulging disks). I worry about the side effects occasionally, but don't have the choice but to continue taking them. I wouldn't be able to function without them. That being said, I also get my liver and kidneys tested annually. I take Zantac to help with some abdominal discomfort. I take stronger medication (muscle relaxants) at night, but find the side effects (drowsiness) really effect my day. Good luck. Chronic pain is not fun! |

I have been taking it for about ten years for my OA. I have to watch for GI bleeding (I have Barrett's esophagus) but other than that, I don't worry too much about it. If I didn't take something, I wouldn't be able to work.

No personal experience because I can't take NSAIDS due to portal hypertension (related to my liver disease). But I've known several people on it who swear by it, and 3 different doctors have wanted to put me on it (until I remind them that it is an NSAID and right there on my chart it says I can't take them.)

So happy they've helped you so much! If you want to use Voltaren cream, and you know someone who is going to Canada or Europe, have them get it for you there. It is OTC there, and I have paid $5-10 for a tube. Here it is Rx and is pretty expensive. Also, if you use the cream you can not take oral NSAIDs concurrently. |

I was on it but went back to Celebrex because it worked better for me. Sometimes when I was still hurting I would think "this isnt working at all", now that Im TTC and quit taking them I realize how much they were working! Good luck and feel better, go in for routine blood checks and you will be fine! |

I have been taking Mobic for a couple of weeks, and the doctor just increased my dosage today. I was on 7.5 mg; now on 15 mg. The lower dose helped a bit but not enough. I am hoping to see a better improvement on the larger dose. One of my daughters took Mobic (15 mg) for her back problems, and it did not help at all. And as far as my stomach, so far fine. I always take it after my big oatmeal breakfast each morning. |

I take Mobic (generic meloxicam) for moderate osteoarthritis pain and have found it to be incredible. If I forget to take it, I can totally tell.
I also asked about the long term effects, and my rheumatologist said that the benefits of the drug outweigh the downsides, and it is much healthier and safer than narcotic pain relief.

I have been taking the generic version (meloxicam) for over 5 years for arthritis in various joints. It is fantastic. It doesn't always make the pain go completely away, but I am very miserable without it.
I have never had any side effects from it. I always take it after I have had breakfast, never on an empty stomach.

I was prescribed this 1 1/2 weeks ago when I had a total hip replacement. I am in the process of weaning off the other narcotics they prescribed. I hate the feeling I have while on those! I will stay on the mobic until my dr appt in a few weeks. Since I started it at the same time as the narcotics, I don't really know how helpful it has been yet. In a few days I am hoping to be be good with tylenol and mobic.

I take Voltaren tabs 75 mg (generic) for arthritis in my knees. I'm supposed to take it twice a day, but kept forgetting, so I only take it once a day. It works great for me.
I had some side affects with Mobic, but not with the Voltaren. I've been on the Voltaren for over a year now.

I get Voltarin in a cream from the pharmacy that my GP has ordered and is prepared. It is 10% Voltarin and is a LOT stronger than plain Voltarin cream. It works really well.
I also take Celebrex a couple of times a month. It works really well for me!

I just received a prescription for some today, in combination with generic Zantac. I'm excited that it seems to work so well for you ladies, gives me hope for my psoriatic arthritis and fibro pain!

My mom took it for back pain and had problems with GI bleeding a couple weeks afterward. It was bad enough that she was hospitalized and received blood to build her up again. Her experience was rather extreme, but you do need to pay attention to possible side effects.

I appreciate everyones' responses from this post I made a while back I just wanted to send ((( Hugs )))) to all with chronic pain, and say that yesterday, as my hip, foot, and now WRIST hurt SO much, I was starting to wonder how much longer I could handle the CONSTANT pain.......Still counting my blessings every day, STILL have a sense of humor, STILL try to be as active as possible, but I am DONE with being in pain ALL. THE. TIME. I won't go into details of WHY taking NSAIDs & other meds regularly is more of a risk for me than some others, but I am now willing to accept the risks.....It's either that, or I feel like the only other choice is taking shots of tequila through the day......LOL.....I'm kidding----but, yesterday, I had HAD IT !!!! The fact that my wrist even hurts that I can barely sign my NAME  I lifted a large bowl filled with salad and it hurt SO much, I almost dropped it !?!?! Oh HELL NO!!!! !! I am now asking (begging!) my doc to Rx me SOMETHING---whether it's Mobic, Celebrex, maybe a morphine drip....whatever....Risks, smisshkkkks!!! |

I take Relafen as needed for Anklylosing spondylitis and it helps a lot! Motrin just wasn't cutting it anymore. I make sure to take it on a full stomach so I don't get the GI side effects and also try to take it when I have nothing planned for the day because it knocks me out.

I started on Mobic last June but unfortunately it didn't work for both the pain of the fractured ankle I was dealing with or the arthritis I have in my neck, ankles and feet....so my doctor switched me to Celebrex and it's worked wonders with my aches and pains.

I commented above about taking Meloxicam (Mobic's generic). I also have now been prescribed Voltaren gel for days when the pain is just too much for the Meloxicam alone. It is wonderful. scrappintoee I hope you find something that works for you. Life is too short to be in pain. |

I do not currently take a high dose prescription NSAID, but I did for years. It was not something that I or my doctor took lightly. I had to have blood tests every three months, especially to monitor my liver and kidney functions. I was fortunate that I had no side effects in the long run.
I was nervous about it, but the quality of my day-to-day life was bad enough from the pain that I was willing to take the risk. It was more than worth it - I got my life back. Fortunately, I went into remission after a few years and I no longer need the NSAID.

I took NSAIDs for years and years for RA, then a routine blood text showed my liver enzymes that should be around 50 were up over 800. Not good. So, no more NSAIDs for me. Now I'm working with my dr. to find the right meds for me. Taking 200mg of Tramadol a day for the pain, it takes the edge off but that's about it.

No doctor would prescribe Mobic or another NSAID for daily use without taking the attendant risks seriously. I have to go in for regular blood tests, and that is probably what your doctor will do, as well. Also, I try to be really careful to always take my pill with dinner. So far, I have not had any issues (it's been about 2 years).

I take mobic, and it's been a lifesaver. I have moderate osteoarthritis in my hands, shoulders, and knees. I do have concerns long term, but right now, it helps me just live without wincing when I walk or use my hands.
My rheumatologist told me that mobic was the last thing that she really could give me short of narcotics/opioids.
I also have a prescription for tramadol for occasional breakthrough pain, and I took one last night and I'm still a bit loopy from it.
(hahah--- just saw that I already answered this some time ago. Der.)

Wow, what an amazing difference! Diclofenac works amazing for me. |

Dh took meloxicam for about 18 months for back pain and OA. Had excellent results. But the VA was no longer able to get Mobic so he was switched to Lodine. It works well too, but the Mobic was better. Good luck, hope you find something to ease your pain.

Thank you for all your replies! I am SO happy for those of you who've gotten relief !!!!! I'm also happy to know there are other meds / creams our there that I've never heard of---even in my google searches!!!!----And THAT is another reason I appreciate being able to post here & hearing peoples' experiences!!! Google can't do that! The other day when I almost dropped a bowl from severe pain in my wrist, then limped to the kitchen due to the arthritis & bursitis in my hip ----(yes, I actually LAUGH at these scenarios sometimes---it's pathetic but sometimes almost funny how my mobility is soooo decreased, I either get sad, or sometimes, hubbs & I joke about it, which keeps me sane! : ) But after finding a bit of humor in it, -----I was very upset!!!!! Since I'd seen 2 of my docs in their offices very recently, I sent them both emails asking once again for an RX....They want to wait until a test result in January (long story!!) ...But the 4 Motrin, ice, stretching, and massage DOES help....SOMEtimes.....but not always, or the relief is very SHORT-TERM  .....One of my doc's Nurse Practitioners also suggested I alternate with Aleve.....maybe Aleve will work better / differently. |
