My dd doesn't need a sports bra, but since the weather has turned hot she isn't happy wearing a cami under loose or sheer tops. I find she's avoiding certain tops so she doesn't have to wear a top and a cami.
Her tops aren't too loose or too sheer, but I want her to look well covered.
Is a plain white sports bra totally inappropriate? I thought the peas would tell me if I was way of base on this one. Perhaps she is far too young. I did see that justice makes size 6/7 sports bras.
Dd is going into grade 4 and is almost 9. Her peers are all 9 and will start turning 10 when school starts.
Tia, Paige.

Can you link the type of top you're thinking of? I'm thinking it's fine, but a visual would help!

I have no answers or advice for you, but I'd love to see current photos of your girls...if you don't mind posting them.

I'm curious to hear that the peas say as well. I have twin dd's this age and they've been avoiding the camis as of late.

My dd is also turning 9 and since school started I bought her several Hanes sports bras just for an extra layer. She has "buds" starting so I figured get her into some now before she gets embarrassed about it. With summer here she's been wearing one under tshirts and dresses, as long as the straps don't show. She never did the cami thing, we just kind of migrated right into the sports bras. I'm just trying to prevent embarrassment and maintain her modesty. There's no booty shorts allowed either and if she wears a skirt she usually has bike shorts under, just for those moments she forgets she's a girl! Just for a reference, were not the churchy type who only wear skirts (I rarely wear them and only own maybe 3?) but I want her to feel comfortable when she does wear them even if she wants to run and at and roll in the grass.

It's very common at our school for girls to begin wearing some kind of bra around 4th grade. No harm in trying it.

I, personally, would not go with a sports bra under a sheer top. If it is too hot to wear the Cami under the sheer top, then wait until it's cooler. But maybe I am a fuddy duddy.

If that's what will make them comfortable, then do it.

If that's what will make them comfortable, then do it. That's it - I think she's fine with nothing. I'm the one who thinks some of these fabrics are too sheer. Come on - why do I have to buy a layering tee? And why aren't they called t shirts? I'll tell you why - because they're too sheer to be a t shirt!

ah! I misunderstood!! I thought she WANTED to wear them. Well, you could always snap a pic of her when she's wearing one with nothing so she can see what YOU are seeing! Or, she could be like me...the boys noticed before I did. After I heard a comment from one of them, I walked around with my arms crossed over my chest for 3 years.

I wear sport bra most of the time. It give more coverage then a regular bra. Since M thinks it funny to pull my shirts front down. I have to have something that covers more.

Personally I think if you can see thru the shirt, and see her cami, or bra, that a sports bra wouldn't look very nice. But you could try it.

I personally don't think a sports bra is a replacement for a cami with a sheer top. That's just not a look I support for my preteen. My daughter asked to start wearing "training" bras around 4th-5th grade. But it had nothing to do with sheer tops, she just noticed other girls developing breasts and wearing bras and wanted to as well. I bought a few at target and she wears them periodically. A pic is below - the coverage is pretty similar to the sports bra you posted. I wouldn't let her wear that with a sheer top. ETA - I think we need clarification on what you mean by sheer - there are seriously sheer tops out there, so I assumed that's what you meant. If you more meant that it was a normal shirt, but perhaps a bit more coverage could be warranted, my answer my change.

I don't have a dd so take this for what it's worth. Girls of all ages here wear bandeaus under blouses you're describing, and strappy sundresses. Basically they're small thinnish tube tops.

I wish I knew how to post a pic.
For example, I bought her a tank top. My little dd wore the same top today with nothing under. It looks fine on dd with nothing under but it's a bit sheer.
If it were me, I would wear a cami because I don't like anyone seeing the shadow of my bra - which maybe just answers my question. I wouldn't want anyone to think she's showing a bra with a sheer shirt, so I think camis are best.

I get what you're saying and while i was only thinking about coverage I didn't think of how it would look with some people maybe seeing a sports bra.

That's my thinking too. Dd is 14 and will wear a bandeau type top over her bra if she's wearing a top or dress that shows the bra. But, if it's really a sheer top, she will still wear a cami. She's always wearing a bra though.
