You know what I'm talking about.. The meal that your significant other fell in love with you even more when you cook it..
For my boyfriend it's pioneer woman's spicy shrimp.. And roasted potatoes, and sweet potatoes with rosemary..
I would love to surprise my boyfriend with another "love" meal when he gets home tonight.. So share recipes please!!

I found a recipe long ago for chicken cacciatore that is definitely labor intensive....and of course it's probably dh's favorite thing. Haven't made it in ages.

I have a similar kind of meal. When I started dating after my first divorce, I used this meal to charm my dates, lol. I HATED dating and going out to restaurants but love to cook. If a first and second date went well enough to make me want to see them again, I would invite them to dinner at my house. Same meal every time.
Whole chicken, fresh carrots, potatoes, celery, onion. Salt, pepper, bay leaves, garlic powder, allspice. Several pats of butter.
Wash and trim the whole chicken and pat dry. Season it with s&p, and a small amount of garlic powder. Place it in the trusty old blue-speckled oval enamel roaster. Add a small amount of water to the bottom of pan and in the water place bay leaves and allspice. Slice onion and lay directly on top of chicken. Place butter pats on top of the chicken too. Wash potatoes, keep skin on and quarter them up. Wash carrots and slice them into big chunks. Wash and trim celery and cut it into long chunks. Add potatoes, carrots, onion and celery to roaster, packing around chicken. Put cover on roaster and pop it in the oven. Roast at 350 for about 1 1/2 hours. Take the top off the roaster, push vegetables to the sides so as much of the chicken's skin is exposed. Put back in the oven, uncovered. Cook for another 45 minutes (or until chicken is falling apart and skin is golden brown), basting chicken every so often with the juice in the pan.
Serve. Be careful though! This will be the best chicken they've ever had made for them and they will fall right in love with you. So...make sure this is a quality guy that you want to stick around. LOL

Me: <waves hands helplessly> Isn't there something...I dunno...made with cream of mushroom soup? DH: <sighs and resigns self to a lifetime of coming home after a long day of work and preparing dinner> Throws chicken on the grill, throws together a vegetable and starch.

Fried chicken from KFC. With slaw and potatoes.
I do this maybe once a year. He grins like the cat who ate the canary.

DH loves my stuffed bell peppers. I'm a decent, but not great, cook and early in our marriage I often felt unsure of my culinary skills because my MIL is an outstanding cook. I knew I had a hit on my hands when he told me my stuffed bell peppers were better than his mom's. Interestingly enough...I'm just back from the store where I was buying what I needed to make this tonight.

For me, it wasn't a meal. It was dessert. Chocolate chip cookies are DH's kryptonite, followed closely by any kind of pie. Lately I've been making these. He asks me to bake cookies when he's in charge of the tailgating on league night so he can impress his friends. DD loves them too! Caramel Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies

Don't laugh but the Frog's was my Liver and Onions with Button Mushrooms, Rice and Baby Peas. In my family that was fine dining growing up so I had no idea most people didn't like it. I made it for my in-laws once and it was the only thing my FIL ever complimented me on....my cooking. MIL and the others went and got KFC, Dad took liver leftovers in his lunch the rest of the week and always wanted me to fix it for him. The secret is soaking it in milk. Still one of my favourite meals but it's too much work for only one person.

My DH loves everything I cook, but my meal I make because I LOVE my family, is an Indian curry dinner. I usually make: vegetable rice biryani, cranberry chutney, curried mushrooms, dahl, onion relish, raita, curried cauliflower and peas (sometimes with potatoes) and homemade butter naan.
Sometimes I change up the actual curries and will make paneer, spinach and tofu, or stuffed peppers instead.

My husband loves my risotto. I make it with lots of parmesan cheese and steamed asparagus on top. He orders risotto out at restaurants sometimes, too, and always pronounces that it's "Not as good as yours!"

The first meal that DSO ever cooked for me was a rack of lamb (actually a crown roast). I knew right then that he was a keeper!
For DSO it would be pork belly. I have a Bill Granger recipe served with caramel vinegar that I usually make, and it's wonderful. One year for Valentines Day I made a Pete Evans (before he went Paleo) dish - Master Stock Pork Belly with Black Vinegar Dressing and Cuttlefish Salad. In the book the author/chef writes "This is the most complicated recipe in the book, but I'll be very proud if someone gives it a go..... it's something that should be made when you really want to impress your guests or loved ones." And it certainly did impress!

It was my Great-Grandma Piper's recipe! It's so simple, really a back-to-basics meal and I think that is part of the 'draw' if you will. You know the old saying, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." and this is the meat and potatoes kind of recipe that is filling and just so flavorful. Unless they didn't care for chicken, how could anyone not like it? I'm happy that your DH liked it as well. Speaking of this recipe...I just told my husband that I am going to cook it very soon for him. We are doing the whole 'relationship reset' thing with our marriage and trying to model actions that we took in the beginning, when it was good and fun and we were so in love and trying to please each other. This was, of course, the first meal I cooked for him and it was our second date. He smiled when I told him I'm making it soon. I hope it brings me good luck!

My chicken curry.
There are lots of rule breakers on this thread!
Chicken Curry and Mixed Vegetable Pulao I usually double these recipes because they are so good! If you look in the ‘ethnic’ section of the grocery store you can usually find bags of spices (like the curry and the cumin seeds) in greater quantity for much less.
For the Chicken Curry: 2 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut into ½ inch chunks 1 and 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil 3 tablespoons curry powder 1 small or ½ large onion, thinly sliced 2 cloves garlic, crushed 1 can (14 oz.) coconut milk (light is better for you but the original tastes better!) 1 can (14.5 oz.) stewed, diced tomatoes (I puree this in the blender to take out the chunks) 3 tablespoons sugar salt and pepper to taste
Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper. Heat oil and curry powder in a large skillet over medium-high heat for two minutes. Stir in onions and garlic and cook 1 minute more. Add chicken, tossing to coat with curry oil. Reduce heat and cook chicken until it is no longer pink on the outside. Pour coconut milk, tomatoes, and sugar into pan, stir to combine. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes.
For the Mixed Vegetable Pulao 1 cup basmati rice ¼ cup green peas 1 shredded carrot 1 small cinnamon stick ½ teaspoon cardamom powder or 4 cardamoms ¼ teaspoon ground cloves or 6 cloves 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 4 teaspoons vegetable oil 1 teaspoon salt 2 cups of water
Clean, wash, and soak rice according to package directions if needed. Heat oil in pan, add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and cumin seeds and stir for 30 seconds. Add rice, salt, and water. Bring to a boil. Cover pan and turn heat to low. Cook for 8 minutes. Add peas and carrots to the top of the rice. Cook for 7 more minutes. Remove from heat, discard cinnamon stick. Stir and serve with curry on top.
Both of these recipes make fantastic leftovers.
If you would like more kick to the curry, add some red pepper flakes to it. Curry is pretty spicy in itself.
