I have been given a nice gift of the ability to buy classroom books and would like to get as many books as possible with my cash! I will check Goodwill, Value Village and Powells, but are there any other places you all would suggest for looking for good quality used books? The only rule that was given to me was that the books have to be in good shape and not be old library books. TIA!

do you have a half price books store in your area? They sell online too but I don't know what the shipping would be, although if you go with library shipping it might not be too bad.

There is a bookstore in the outlet mall in Troutdale. They often have deals (buy two books get one free or whatever). My mom works there so say hi to her for me ETA: sorry you said used bookstores... there is a really nice one in Vancouver off of 205 (kind of) called Vintage Books. Really nice store.

Thanks for the tips guys! I want used so I can stretch my budget, I am pretty picky about books. I don't want books I wouldn't want to read to myself. No Pinkalicious, no Bernstein Bears, no Kissing Hand, etc. I am hoping to find books along the lines of books by Mo Willems, Oliver Jeffers, Ezra Jack Keats, Virginia Lee Burton, Leo Lionni, the author of the Aminal, the author of the Gruffalo etc. Pinkalicious, Bernstein Bears, Clifford and the ilk are fine, but we have a few of those and I feel like those are ones they will have at home. I want to find books that maybe they wouldn't read at home (I know most will have Mo books at home, but he is so good I want his books in class too!) and are quality books, does that make sense without me sounding like a snob?
I looked on ebay, but the shipping negates any savings and without being sure of the quality first hand (and after being mislead before) I don't want to risk that. I would rather just order new books off Amazon instead, most of the time the price wouldn't be that much different.
Thanks again, going to check to stores suggested out this week!

How about Bingo Used Books at 33rd & SE Powell?
Vintage Books in Vancouver gets my vote as well.
I know you said no used library books, but Title Wave used books on Knott near Emanuel Hospital is Multnomah County Library's used book depot.
Happy Hunting - it sounds like a fun mission to complete!

I've found that the best Goodwill for books is the one on SE 6th. It has a huge book section, bigger than any others in the area, at least that I've found. My sister had me on the search for some specific titles and I found them all there. Cameron's Books in SW and Daedalus Books in NW might have some choices, but they are small. Have fun book shopping! What a joyous task! I spend way too much time at Powell's

Check out Craigslist. Sometimes retiring teachers have great deals.
