My sister's friend was recently hit by a car while riding her bike. She is currently paralyzed from the chest down and will be moving to a rehab facility to relearn some basic tasks. My sister wants to send her a care package for her stay. I am trying to help her come up with ideas for what to include. The peas are great at this kind of thing... What would you suggest? She does still have full use of her hands and arms.

Such a shame. That's a tough one but I guess I would try to focus on things like books, magazines, perhaps a crafting kit of some sort that she might like to try.

I am quadriplegic due to MS and not due to a traumatic SCI, but I assume your sister's friend is relatively young so perhaps I Tunes card, Audible gift card, Amazon card, a small soft throw blanket, hair ties, lip balm, books and magazines are good, but the rehab will be exhausting so music may be welcome. Arrange for phone calls/face time or Skype as friends and family can get awkward and it can be helpful to get friendly phone calls regularly.

A nice warm blanket. Honestly, facilities are so cold.

Quality wet wipes.
Assortment of small pillows if they are allowed.
Wheel chair size blanket. My grandmother had one that was weighted at the top so it would not slip out of her lap.

A basket of her favorite snacks (provided she is not on a special diet). Pens and notebook to write questions for the docs, etc.

I work part time in an acute rehab unit. So there is what I would suggest. She is going to be extensive rehab every day, so she will be tired, but things to keep her up, motivated and comfortable. pic's of her and your sister, a big fleece blanket. These are nice to have on their own beds in their rooms. Usually in rehab they will be dressed, and not have a need for lap blankets, plus the younger patients aren't really fond of them. Nice warm socks, gum, mints. If you know her favorite shampoos, lotions or scents? it's always nice to have your OWN stuff for hygiene. Her favorite foods, and snacks.

Thank you all - these are great ideas and lots I wouldn't have thought of. I will pass them on.
