Are brussel sprouts the new kale?

Not me at all, but my DH adores them, and when they're in season he will often boil up a couple of dozen and just eat them as a snack! He adds butter and lots of black pepper.

I don't think so because kale is disgusting and brussels sprouts are delicious.

I think Brussels sprouts have always been a common and popular food. We love them. I don't consider them 'trendy' at all.

They're disgusting but in the interest of health and clean eating, I've been known to slice them up and throw them in a stir fry. They're tolerable that way.

I hope not, because they are my favorite and I hate to be trendy.

All kidding aside, roasted brussel sprouts with basalmic are the best thing ever.

My family has recently started enjoying brussel sprouts. Usually I roast them and sprinkle with salt and pepper. But I tried slicing them up and pan frying them with a little butter and really liked them prepared that way, too.

We don't like kale as a dish by itself. But it's yummy in soup or a quiche or casserole.

I love them. We roast them regularly. My kids even like them.

We were at BJs today and they were on their featured table menu. My husband ordered them. I agree, they seem to be very popular.

I've tried them and do not like them.

However, my husband makes the best kale 'chips' and we put kale in smoothies, of course.

Nope won't eat them. They are bitter and nasty. There are so many other veggies that taste wonderful that there is no reason for me to eat brussel sprouts.

ETA: I've never eaten kale but my mother used to grow it for a landscape plant and kale is very pretty.

If they are very fresh and not overcooked, they should not be bitter.

They get bitter when they are old. Choose small, firm ones with tight leaves - preferably still on the stalk or at least freshly cut off of it. If the cut end looks dried at all, pass.

Yup, we eat them raw regularly and they are mildly sweet and crunchy with not even a hint of bitterness. Except this morning, when I burned them a bit when sautéing them for a sweet potato hash.

One of my favorite vegetables along with spinach. I've always liked them even when I was little and they were horribly prepared. I like to fry them in a pan with butter and olive oil until I practically burn them. Then I add in some fresh diced garlic, salt and pepper for the last minute and eat them steaming hot...all by myself. Because no one else will eat them with me!

The only vegetable I really abhor are Lima beans. And beets. And radishes.

Vile things. Sulphurous balls of nastiness.

My husband loves them!
