After reading the hair color on 'older' women thread the other day, I thought it would be fun to see what kind of fun colors all of us have, no matter what our age. Now that I am retired and the 'establishment' can't control my appearance, I get to play around every time I get my hair colored. I just got these fun fall colors yesterday and I'm lovin' them! We ride a Harley, so it's a fun coincidence that I have the orange in there. It'll look cute with my do-rags and bandanas when we ride. Here is mine...show me yours! Life is too short for boring hair!

LOVE! Thanks for sharing. twoboyzmom...is it possible for you not to wash it for a few days? I always avoid washing for a few days to let the color set well, on the advice of my stylist. After that I use a shampoo formulated for colored hair. It helps to slow the fading.

I waited almost 48 hours after color before washing. I have to wash it to style it daily tho. I do use a color preserve shampoo/conditioner.

OH! LOVE both of those ladies!! Beautiful!! I wish I could do some fun colors but my hair is too short, thin & fragile. I totally get that Brandy. I've finally gotten my hair long and healthy but it took a long time and some incredible products under the guidance of my SIL stylist. But...that is the reason I don't do a lot of blonde or lightening colors. I am so afraid to damage my hair. I do get a good bit of blonde foils in for the summer, but my hair feels so much healthier when I stick to dark colors.

That looks really nice! The people I see around here with wild hair colors don't look nearly that well done or well styled.

My funky (for me) hair color is in my avatar. Its blonde on top and dark brown underneath. I didn't realize that was a thing - I thought I came up with the idea on my own. Since I started wearing my hair like this I've noticed lots of people have it too.

I had "normal" colored hair all summer, got bored with it and the length so I had it chopped into an asymmetrical bob and then added some pink and blue yesterday. I feel like myself again, tho it was about 7" of hair off on the short side, that's taking some getting used to! the color is a bit off in this pic but it's the best I have so far.

I do use a color preserve shampoo/conditioner. if the color preserve shampoo isn't sulfate free, ditch it and get one that is. or, you can try co-washing, which is washing with conditioner, no shampoo at all. I do that quite often and it really does keep the color longer. if your hair is really oily tho that might not work for you.

Everyone's hair looks so amazing!
Dawn, I love your curled hair. I first cut my hair short in 1995, but that was an accident. I wanted the damaged hair from my horrible attempt at home colour cut off, and the woman cut ALL my hair off. I looked like Christian Slater from Heathers--short on the back with long hair in the front slicked back.
My hair is stick straight yet I decided I wanted short curled hair like Julia Ormond in the remake of Sabrina (1996) The cut looked great on me, but my hair refuses to curl.
I'm hoping that I'll feel like going out and getting my hair coloured and cut really soon. There's a Bumble and Bumble salon nearby that I've been wanting to check out.
Brandy--there are some great colour chalks and temporary colours you could try. My hair's natural texture is very fine. All over colour bulks up my hair texture and makes my hair easier to style and deal with on a daily basis. My base colour is only a few levels lighter than my natural colour, so there's not enough ammonia and bleach to damage my hair.

Does it count that every time I color my hair, my husband says it's orange? . It's not really, but more of a dark strawberry blonde for a few days until it tones down. I love all the pics.

The ONE good thing about the aging process for me (48 very soon) is that my hair doesn't get oily anymore. I know this might sound gross to some of you but I truly only need to wash my hair about twice a week. Which is plenty often enough, if you have long hair you know what I mean. #longhairproblems That practice has really made my hair much healthier, as the ends don't dry out anymore. I do deep condition when I wash it, so that helps too. And yes, my color stays pretty good for quite some time. When I need to color again it is because I have new growth showing and it gets noticeable. This time around (see pic above) she actually cut quite a bit more off and I asked for more layers, especially underneath so I would have some body, as my hair is very fine and straight as a pin normally.

I'm a huge Seattle Seahawks fan. For the Super Bowl I dyed my hair blue. It has faded and grown out. I haven't done anything to the color, but some days it's more pink, or purple, or pale blue. It's been so fun!

I have psoriasis and over the years it has scarred my scalp and my hair has thinned so much you can see my scalp all over the top of my head. The hair I DO have left is super thin and fine and has been damaged over the last several years of using a straight iron. I go in 2 weeks to talk to a new stylist about a new hair style (something where I won't have to use a straightener) and possibly highlight it.

I had crappy hair all of my life until about 10 years ago when I stopped perming and wearing the 80's do, which was NOT working for me anyway. Growing it out was a b*tch, but that's when I started going to my current stylist who helped me through the growing process and got me on the right track. My hair is actually very fine, thin, and poker straight. That girl does MAGIC, I tell ya! I'm super careful about what I use or do to it. Knowledge is power when it comes to hair, for sure.

Thanks, but it's ok. I've dealt with psoriasis since I was in middle school. It was really bad for a long, long time. Once I began eating healthier and losing weight, it's been SO much better. In fact, the ONLY place I deal with it now is on my scalp (and only in small patches). But the damage is done. I joked with my BFF yesterday that if I didn't think it would make me look like a serious fat cow or the fact that people would assume I was sick, I'd buzz it completely off and just wear a hat all the time.

Not the pinks and blues that some of you have. I went spiked and red this spring. I've kinda of grown it out a bit, just so it's not spiked up anymore. I'm thinking I'll get a more copper gold colour for fall. I usually go super short in spring/summer than a bit shaggier in winter until we go away and I don't want the volume but a quick easy style. I have some natural wave that gives me great texture. brandy327 sorry you have psoriasis, my husband has it too it's awful.

Oh girl, you have no idea how many times I've wanted to completely shave my head. With my migraines I cannot handle heat and in the summer my hair is always damp, and even though my hair is thin, it feels so heavy when my head is pounding. Both of the reasons you stated above are why I don't do it and also the fact that my husband loves long hair.

It IS awful and there are times where I have a "woe is me" pity party (because I have several autoimmune disorders not just the psoriasis). But for the most part, I just try my best to keep it under control as best as I can. My docs are always like "well during the summer, the sun should help". Yeah, it CAN help but my psoriasis is strictly on my scalp at this point...UNDER my hair in the back. Sun doesn't get there, unfortunately. And if I'm out in the sun much, them my rosacea flares in the worst way. LOL So damned if I do, damned if I don't. I will say, when I began doing Enbrel shots for my arthritis, it helped my psoriasis tremendously.

happymomma , LOVE the colors. What did she use? I use auburn and gold. But love your darker colors. Beautiful! Thank you! You know I am not sure what she used. I took her in a picture of what I had in mind, kinda sorta, and she took it from there. I'm one of her favorite clients because I just say, "You're the pro. Just make me cute!" She does bring out the swatch book and we figure out two or three colors that we agree on, but I mostly defer to her wisdom. I know she used Paul Mitchell colors and one was the dark brown she usually puts in my hair. Then for the oranges, she used one color in one bowl, then took some more of that color and mixed it with another color, so she actually put three colors on my hair. Sorry I can't be of more help. This is the photo I took in, but she didn't use the suggested colors on it because the cinnamon color they listed was too bright red for what I wanted when I actually looked at it on the swatch.
