We got our children a maltese/Shih Tzu puppy 3 years ago but of course I was the one that ended up training her and taking care of her.
I'm definitely her master and everyone knows it. I was at a meeting last night and my DH said she sat by the front entrance, staring at the door the whole time waiting for me. Even though everyone else was home.
My parents get heartbroken if they dog sit for us. She stops eating and gets the most depressed look on her face the whole time.
Last year I went away with our boys for a week of school at the legislature. Our dd stayed home with her dad, so she got to see just how lonely Mitzi gets. Our daughter is a big animal lover so she was in tears watching the dog and couldn't wait for me to get home just so the dog would be cheered up, lol.
Wherever I go in the house, she follows. If I close the bathroom door, she sticks her nose under the door.
I joked last night that I think our dog would miss me more then our kids if I died.
Anyone else have a dog that is so attached? Or are all dogs like this?

Yes. He is also a huge cuddler. We have cuddle time at night. He lays in my arms like a baby and snores. He is ok if I am gone. But as soon as I come home he acts like he was neglected while I was gone. He does this weird talking thing. Like he is telling me how horrible it was while I was out! He is chihuahua / terrier.

Yes, we have a blue heeler (Australian cattle dog) and he is my shadow. I can't do anything without him following. Simply put, I am his one and only cow and require constant supervision. Mooo!

Dogs are funny aren't they!
Mine also loves to cuddle any chance I give her.

Well, that is a nice way of explaining it. I have two herding dogs. My corgi is the worst. He's always by my side, um, more like ankle. When we go for walks he walks about 10 feet in front of me and then turns to make sure I am coming every four seconds. If I say a word he is back at my side. I didn't train him to do this. The sheltie is always by the seam of my pants on walks. We walk around the lake every night and I see lots of people with dogs straining on their leashes. I think that is one nice thing about having a dog that likes to be so close, they are perfect to walk. When we get into an area with other people and dogs, I always leash them. The corgi also likes to get between my husband and I if there is any affection being shown. He also likes to smother you if you are laughing and he can get to your face.

Do you leave an article of your clothing when you go away for a long period of time?? That might help with the loneliness.

This is what we have. Or I should say, this is what I have. Bob is never more than three feet away from me at all times. And we have a cat who loves and always follows Bob around. So whenever I walk anywhere in the house it's like a mini parade. Me followed by the dog followed by a cat. And I shall now think of myself as Bob's cow.

Yes! The Maltese breed in general is like this and often then are a one person dog. A breeder/friend told me this and I have found it to be true with mine too. DH and I are on vacation. We are flying home on an early flight tomorrow so we can check him out of the kennel so he doesn't have to spend another night without me. The funny thing is that he will be nice to DH but will be mad at me for leaving him and I will get the cold shoulder treatment for a couple of days.

<<-- She is the same way. She's okay if I'm gone during the day, but when I get home she's all over me. She's a yapper too! She can hear my car coming before it turns in the driveway!

yes, and I'm not used to this. She's on my lap right now as I type this. We've had her just over a week, and she's decided she is my dog. I have the kids walk her and feed her and it doesn't help that much. She's nice to the boys now, but if I walk in the room, she follows me. If someone asks her to leave the room I'm in, she won't go. I can see the struggle in her too. My dd told her it was time for a walk last night. She loves walks and wanted to follow my dd, but I wasn't going so she couldn't bring herself to leave the room.
Our last dog was a sweetie, but not this attached. This has been a new experience for me.

Hahaha I guess I'm a cow too to my half-border-collie dog (the other half is black lab). And she's black so I always say "me and my shadow" (wasn't that an old song?) She can be laying in the living room right where she can see me sitting at the dining room table. But if I get up to go to the kitchen -- about two steps from the table -- she has to get up and move to where she can see me. If I go in the bathroom and actually shut the door (alert! alert! the door is shut!) she comes and "snuffles" under the door -- just checking to see if I'm really in there I guess. Then she FLOPS down on the floor right outside the door with a big sigh, so I'll feel guilty. And it's interesting that when dh is away Simba will take his side of the bed by the second night. But if I'm away she sleeps on the floor like always. Clearly she thinks I'm boss. lol

My new kitten is like a puppy. He has to be on me, literally most of the day. He paws at my knee like a toddler waiting for me to pick him up. Maybe we should get your dog and my cat together, so that we can catch a break.

Yes, it's Mr Finch the Doberman. He is up my butt all day long, drives me nuts but i truly love him. His wife, Harper, she's a Rottweiler, is lazy & just places herself in the way where she can watch. Mr Finch is all over me, if I breath harder than normal he needs to check on me, I might need him to lick me.

I worry about leaving him, and I always feel so guilty when I'm on vacation because I know he is back home miserable and alone!

Yes! All day and all of the night. He needs to know I'm within paw's reach at all time. He is happy for DS to take him for his walk, but as soon as he gets back, he needs to find me and tell me what a great walk he had. I was scraping wallpaper at my mum's old house this afternoon, and I stopped for a rest and a drink. There is woodland outside the bedroom window, and I was enjoying just looking at the trees where I played my whole childhood. I felt very calm, and then realised it wasn't just the trees; it was the fact that DD wasn't humming from the other room, there was no traffic noise, and that Turriff wasn't at my ankles wanting petted! It was lovely!

Yep! With both DH and I working from home, Tucker is EXTREMELY attached to us. I'm his main trainer/walker/feeder/caretaker, but if DH is in his office, Tucker is curled up under his desk. If we're downstairs, Tucker is by our sides (and sometimes in our laps). At night, he sleeps with us in our bed. This week, DD and I went out to see a movie (The Princess Bride - I've never seen it in the theater before!), and when we got home, DH said that Tucker had been whining and moping the whole time we were gone. I love the love, but I *would* like to be able to pee alone once in a while.

My dog is not a cuddler but he is with me wherever I am. He follows me constantly and does not like to have a door shut between us. Fortunately when I go away, he stays with my daughter and becomes my son-in-law's dog !

Yes. He has to be ON me...not near me. If I leave and come back home, he loses his mind when I walk in. I love it though...he's the only one that seems genuinely excited to see me!

Often I'm in bed by that time reading and she'll RUSH in, look at me to be sure I haven't been abducted by aliens, and only then does she go get some water. Silly dogs.

She sleeps with me, with her tiny eight pound body stretched out lengthwise to be sure I feel every bit of her 4,000 degree body temperature. When we go on vacation, my married DD babysits. DD has to hand feed Lola or she will not eat. She's rotten, but I love her.

yes, she is attached. If I am not home she lays on the dog bed in the living room and will not sit with my dh. Except when I am leaving she runs for someone else because she doesn't want to go in her crate. she will go to someone if they have food but comes right back to me when that is gone.

Yes, the new little thing we adopted on 4th of July shadows me everywhere. She's more attached at my ankles. She's only 4 pounds. When she's on my lap she has to have my hand in her mouth. It's the strangest thing. I was actually gonna post about it. She falls asleep on my lap but if I try to remove my hand from her mouth she wakes and grabs it again. As a result, I wash my hands 50x per day I swear.
