I wash my towels after each use.
My towels are dirty after I shower. I can *see* that they are dirty. They have lipstick and mascara on them. They have baby oil on them. TMI, if I'm on my period they have blood on them. TMI again, if I'm ovulating they have vaginal secretions on them. And that's just what I can see with my bare eyes.
I also don't like the way towels feel if they air dry and you touch them again.
So, yea, I always have and always will wash after every use.
I also only wear clothes once before I wash, wash my sheets once a week, and change kitchen towels multiple times a day.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who didn't know you could wash a pillow. I buy new ones pretty much every year. Yikes! well you can, but they aren't the same when they come out. or maybe that's just true with my $15 pillows? we buy new for Dh and I, wash the kids' a couple times before they need new ones (they aren't as picky, and don't have back issues). I wash mine, but I'm a delicate flower and have to have a down pillow and they aren't cheap. At least the good ones aren't. I throw it in the dryer forever with a bunch of new tennis balls and it comes out as good as new. I agree that the cheapie fiberfill ones will never come out of the wash as fluffy as they went in. I think the last down pillows I bought at Costco were something like $60 or so for two, and that is cheap compared to a similar pillow at Select Comfort. I me a nice down pillow!

I need to wash my hand towels more often. Other than that, I'm good.

Guess I could use beach towels. No one sees them anyway and they're nice and big. I have plenty of them because my MIL used to give them to my kids for Christmas Go to Costco. Their bath sheets are HUGE, absorbent and very soft (Egyptian cotton, I think). I liked them so much I bought them for our guest bath and for our cabin. And the price is right too, I want to say they were about $13 each. They don't have a ton of colors, but at that price and for that quality I really don't care. In fact, I bought new beach towels for the lake there this year too and they are equally nice but they're about 4" shorter and wilder colors.

I think it is funny that a number of people on page 1 clearly didn't READ the article, because it says things you mentioned ARE obsessive. LOL! Dish towels are recommended to be washed ONCE PER WEEK, for example. And, while they recommend washing sheets every 1 to 2 weeks, say it is fine to go longer...

I use my body towel once after a shower- my towel for my shampooed hair I use twice. Sheets, pillow cases and pillow covers are changed weekly. In the winter- if I am sick- I change the pillowcases more often. I launder my bath mats about monthly- hand tows are changed every 1-2 days. Kitchen towels changed daily. This is not to say I do laundry daily- I do wait until I have plenty to wash. I guess if my area was in a drought I would have to change my routine.

I'm with them on everything except kitchen towels and maybe hand towels. Kitchen towels may be washed once a week but a new one is out daily if not more often, and the old one is in the laundry basket. Ewww to switching them once a week?? Hand towels in the guest bath I switch pretty much every other day or when a guest has been over. Daily if anyone is sick. Upstairs we all have our own color so I may be more lax, as in when ever the kids put theirs in the laundry. Lol I was thinking they meant the towel you have you to dry your hand after washing them, not a towel you clean with, but u could be wring

A lot of this baffles me too....including how many people seem to find their own bodies so disgusting...even when clean and fresh from a shower.

I don't use fabric softener of any kind on my towels for that reason, I like them to do their primary job which is to dry me off.

So really your posts about reusing bath towels is utterly irrelevant to normal people who realize you don't need a bath towel to remove your makeup.

I'm all over the place when it comes to washing towels, comforters, sheets, dishcloths, and dishrags. I wash some like the article says and others I do not. Hence I'm a freak of nature germaphobe and disgusting slob depending on what does and does not get washed at the appropriate times.

I'm always amazed to read the personal hygiene threads, and see how people do things differently. (Amazed in a good way, not mean or snarky ) What I consider normal, is totally different from so many other people! FTR, I use my hair and bath towel more than once and hang to dry. I also use a wash cloth, but only use that once before washing (although I do hang it to dry in the shower and throw in the basket the next day when I get a clean one for my shower )

I'm always surprised when this topic generates so much debate.
I prefer to wash my bath towel after each use. I don't think it's gross, it's really not dirty per se but it does have things like dead skin cells and stuff that slough off onto it, and I dry my butt crack with it and even if I don't think of my body as dirty and gross (I don't) I figure if it has been in my butt, it should probably get washed because I don't want to dry my face with the part I dried my butt with last time. That's just me, it's what I do. I am kind of a germaphobe but I am not a neat freak by any means - I just like washing my towel after each use and I have a bunch of them so that I can air dry the towel and toss it in the wash and do towels once or twice a week (along with kitchen towels, hand towels, etc) and not generate a crap ton of laundry that way.
I don't care so much what anybody else does, it's just what I do. I already acknowledge that I am super weird and do things other people would go WTF about, so it's all good.
I even rewash the dishes and utensils in the kitchenette at work before I use them for my own food.

I was raised to wash bath towels weekly, but this humid climate seems to make the towels smell musty after a day or two even when they're hung up to dry. And then after a while the smell never leaves. I just replaced all our bath towels because no amount of hot water/vinegar washing would remove the musty smell.
I go through a lot of kitchen towels and dish cloths - they're washed once a week but I usually pull out a fresh one of each every day or every other day.

Here's how you can reuse a bath towel and not use the butt part on your face again...
1st time - wash body and dry your CLEAN body with a new towel. 2nd time - hang the towel to dry, Don't wad it up on hook, put it on a bar and straighten it out. Over a register is great. Now, when you need it and it's perfectly dry, use it to dry your hair. 3rd time - let it dry again and when it's time to take a shower, use it as a shower mat (I even cover my shower mat with it to keep it clean longer).
It can now go into the laundry. (let it dry so it doesn't mildew if you live in a humid area). If you want to get a 4th bonus out of it, dry off a wet dog with it - although I doubt the peas will find this "acceptable" behavior.
Sorry for the bump, I've been gone for 4 days and saw lots of notifications on this thread. lol

Kitchen towels are changed at least once a day - sometimes twice! I have a houseful of teens/young adults and younger one all working and going to school on differnt schedules, so there is alot of meal prep, stuff gets dirty.
Bath towels washed after each use. The reason is above - teens / young adults...sports germs and smells ..... and I don't want a mix up and using each others towels. DD and I soemtimes use ours twice if no on else has showered in our bathroom and we are sure they are our towels.
Hand towels in teh bacthroom are changed daily in the main bath, every other in my bathroom.
Sheets - every few weeks or sooner if I suspect some young man has been in bed after the gym instead of showering 1st - gross!

Let it dry completely. Then the dried hair towel could be used for my body, and eventually the body towel for the mat. Then toss in the wash. I would never use the towel I dried my butt with to dry my hair, not because my butt wasn't clean when I got out of the shower but because my DH has a way of using MY towel to dry HIS butt and I can't vouch for whether his butt washing is up to my standards, LOL!

Holy heck. What brand of mascara and lipstick do you use?? I use waterproof stuff and it comes off easy with a washcloth in the shower! Plus if you are THAT dirty still when you get out of the shower, that it's showing on your towel, just ick. You're not really clean. Have you tried make up removal pads, or solution?
