We are sitting in children's hospital in DC waiting to get my daughters lab results back after being transferred from our local hospital. Her platelets and cell counts were all low. It is 345am and we are all exhausted and scared. The doctor said that theyave to rule out leukemia and I am terrified. I have 45 minutes until we get the lab results back and then have to wait for them to decide what they want us to do next.
please send her your good thoughts and prayers. We need them.
update:
original update was that they did not see any "blasts" that would indicate leukemia. They admitted us and need to figure out what is causing her numbers to be so low. Hematology just came in. Although they did not see any "blasts" that point to leukemia, they saw a lot of "reactive" cells that are still very concerning. They brought up leukemia again as one of the things that could cause those reactive cells as a possibility. We have to stay until her cell and platelet counts increase so at minimum through tomorrow but it sounded like we are starting a longer time here, and are not totally out of the woods yet.
Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughts-they are very appreciated!
Update 9/5 evening
They are doing a nine marrow biopsy either tomorrow or Monday and the original concern of leukemia has come back up. Still just scared and waiting. Thank you again for your kind thoughts. Waiting and not knowing is just numbing.
9/7
still no real diagnosis but lots of blood tests. Biopsy postponed again due to holiday weekend-she would have to be fit in and basically wait and hope for a spot. She has been eating and drinking much better so that is good. She is mad and cranky and feels no control, so nothing is making her happy right now. So thankful that we have good friends who have helped with my son-we had to cancel his 14th birthday party and activities and they swooped in and gave him a great dinner and celebrated with him.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support-hoping we get some answers soon
9/7 evening
We are home!!! Her numbers really improved to the point that they felt like it was viral. We have to go back weekly for labs and make sure numbers don't go back down. Apparently they're are so any types of viruses out there that they do not know what exactly it was or how she got it. They were more concerned with ruling out bigger and more serious things. Because of that they don't know what exactly it was, and we just have to take her back in for lab work weekly to make sure we don't see any drops in numbers
Thank you so much for your kindness and keeping my dd in your thoughts and prayers. I am so grateful that people who do not know us still took time to be supportive. Thanks peas!
