All because of these two! Twelve years ago these two took over my life in a way I never imagined. A foster placement that was supposed to be just a few months ended up being forever. I remember putting them to bed the first night and praying that God would protect them and change their life in postitive ways. A Knights Tale (movie with Heath Ledger) came out that year and I remember telling Matt he could "change his stars". I prayed that prayer for weeks and then the day we got the phone call that they weren't going to be returned to their birthmom I knew their stars were forever changed. Exactly one year to the day they moved in, their adoption was finalized and they were legally mine. It hasn't been an easy journey with these two. We have overcame loss, educational challanges, more loss, mental illness, divorce, remarriage, job changes, school changes....you name it, the 3 of us have been through it. But we did it together and we will keep doing it. I got to hug my youngest and tell him how much I love him. The oldest....still not home and right now I don't even know where he is (he won't return my FB messages). I worry so much about him and pray that he will come around soon. 12 years later and their Gotcha Day still makes me cry.

Awww! What a sweet picture.
It's also my very best friend since kindergarten's "birthday" today too. She was adopted from Korea and July 18th was the first day her parents met her in person. The orphanage where she was had no idea of her actually birthday but estimated her age so they used July 18th as her birthday!
Our mom's met in the schoolyard the first day of kindergarden, Emily had just arrived in the US a few days before. Our mom's got to talking and my mom grabbed me and said "This is Emily, where you go, she goes, if you're hungry, she eats, if you go the bathroom, she goes the bathroom. Stick to her like glue and don't let her out of your sight until you come out and meet her mom after school." Em didn't speak a word of English!

Such a heartwarming story! You've expressed the joy of adoption in a beautiful way.
I have the pleasure of celebrating two Gotcha Days every year and they are always filled with emotion. Their birthdays don't carry any sort of story for me, but the days that I met them surely do. My oldest shares her Gotcha Day with her great-grandfather's birthday.

Aww, what you have been through together is tough, I have always admired your love for those boys, through the struggles and pain through the years, you've been amazing.
I pray your eldest grows up soon and rebuilds his relationship with you all.

Thanks for sharing, that is a beautiful story. It's just like life isn't it, the good and the not so good. In the end we have each other and love.
Thank you for being one of those special people that can take in someone else's children and love them as your own. You are a special lady.

Beautiful boys! Happy July 18th!
I was thinking of you and wondering how the older one was doing. Sorry for what you are going through, but know that eventually things will turn around. Honestly it will take some time, but he'll learn some good lessons along the way. Eventually they return, with a little luck, much smarter than they were before.
