There was a nearby community wide sale this weekend that turned out to be a bust. I guess it wasn't very well promoted, it was supposed to be their inaugural annual town wide sale, but there wasn't much participation, which was disappointing. I did pick up a couple of things, among them a Polaroid camera from the early 80s to add to my vintage camera collection, a white denim jacket and a large box of plastic Christmas ornaments for my crab apple tree out front. I also found some neat linen fabric with dogs on it that I will use as a table cloth for a themed 'Westminister' dinner when that airs next February. At previous sales I picked up a book on training hounds, a ceramic bassett hound, and an old AKC book to use as a centrepiece. The fabric had a tag on it, Mulberry and I googled it and it is called Kennel Club and retailed for $200 a yard! The piece I bought is at least two yards and I paid $2 for it. Next weekend is another town wide sale that is usually a good one, so I have high hopes for that. Has anyone else been out lately, and made any good finds?

Nothing lately for me, but it sounds like you found some great stuff!
And hot damn, but if I found fabric that I thought could be sold for such a profit, I would.
I bet your themed dinner will be cool.

Thanks. I never resell anything that I find at yard sales. I am always afraid that my good luck will dry up if I get too greedy, lol!

Dh plans to upgrade to a king size bed and I found a blanket for $2 in very good condition. It's even the right color. Got some sheets at Tuesday M. yesterday. Need a comforter/bedspread now. I didn't buy much but went to some very interesting sales!

@elaynef I loved going to Tuesday Morning when we visited the States, they had some awesome deals. I hope you find the perfect comforter to complete your bedding set.

I only got one thing but it was amazing. I have a wall of limited edition prints and each print has a cat somewhere in the artwork. This weekend I found a professionally framed 30" square Mary Engelbreit limited edition print that is numbered, signed twice (once on the print and once on the mat), and remarqued. The girl in the pool is a redhead (as I am, hence my name pelirroja) and the background has a cat in it. And it was only $8. Score!

I cashiered yesterday for our friends who own an auction company. The estate sale yesterday was from a former Governor of our state, Donald Russell. He had been a Federal Judge and had served as President of the University of South Carolina. He was also a law partner of James F. Byrnes, who was Harry S. Truman's Secretary of State and later a United States Supreme Court Justice. One of Byrnes' desks was in the sale as well. The items including gorgeous antique furniture, artwork, sterling, crystal, china, high-end collectibles, very nice Oriental/Persian rugs and more. Even a set of Minton china made especially for the Governor's inauguration (it sold for over $7K). Fountain pens made of precious metals and gems went for thousands. I bid on a few items, but I apparently have very good taste, because they went for very dear prices. The auction was a lot of fun.

I have a page that I tore out of an architectural digest a number of years ago with this fabric on it, every six months or so I do a google search trying to find some and I have never been able to locate it. We have always had beagles and the beagle on it is so beautiful! If you would ever consider selling it PLEASE let me know!!

Because it was projected to be so hot in town yesterday, we headed out to the coast for relief. We strolled miles down the beach to a non-touristy area and saw a sign for an Estate Sale pointing down a side street. We thought we might as well check it out before we headed back, knowing that if we found something, we would have to lug it all the way back to town. My eye was caught by a greasy, dirty old cookie jar without a price on it. I recognized it as a vintage 50's Los Angeles Potteries "cookies all over" jar that I have always secretly wanted. I see them listed on ebay usually between $60.00-$100.00 plus. I asked the price, the woman running the sale squinted at it, thought and said "$3.00". Woohoo! I then of course had to carry it back the miles down the beach, but it was worth it. I cleaned it up and there are no cracks or chips. Here is a blurry picture.

My mom had that cookie jar when I was a kid. I think she got it with stamps? I used to work in an antique store and whenever I saw one I'd buy it. Now, me and all my sisters have that cookie jar.

I helped my friends who own the auction house with a tag sale this morning.
I got a 1967 Spirograph no. 401 in the box with all the parts for one dollar. It looks as if it wasn't played with more than a few times at most. I have such fond memories of Spirograph -- I loved that as a child. I've been torturing my 14-year-old son with it all afternoon. "C'mon and do it onnneee moorrree time with me, pleeeasse?"
I also bought a box full of men's cufflinks and lapel pins for five dollars. I'll list most of those on Ebay or Etsy.

I have a fondness for vintage metal cabinets, Formica, and convertible furniture. I found this homely little thing in my local ReStore for $12 and just had to have it. The Formica and metal edging are in almost perfect condition, so I'm going to clean the rest up, find another large door pull, repaint it with appliance paint, and use it to store my printer on for now. Someday if DH and I get our tiny house or the vintage trailer we want, it will be perfect for one of those .

I found an old 70s set of Jarts this week for $4. I am greedy enough to sell my yard sale pickings, but Jarts are prohibited on both Ebay and Craigslist, so I'm not sure how to sell this set.

I got a 2 drawer metal library catalog drawer for 4.00 today, now to figure out what to do with it!!!!! I already have a 72 drawer wooden card catalog and I didn't really have a need for a metal one, but it was so inexpensive I bought it. Any suggestions???
I also got a bag of fisher price toy tools for 5.00 at the humane society thrift store. It has about 15 tools all in perfect condition and a little construction worker vest and kids sized orange pylons.

Here are some things from this summer: Some canister jars; when I redo the living area in our house this is going to be one of the main colors. We are doing thrift store/flea market/ yard sale finds for Christmas gifts this year. The wine rack is for one brother in law, and the picture is for my other brother in laws hunting cabin.

It has holes in the back where it could have been bolted to a wall. The only manufacturer markings I can find on it read "Elm Joy Metal", and the only information I can find on Elm Joy Metal is from a 1967 advertisement for metal cabinets I found on Google. I'd love to know where it came from and how it was used, especially if it was in a trailer, but that will probably remain a mystery. I can't find anything like it online.

pelirroja sounds perfect! And a steal of a price for something like that, professionally framed. Spongemom Scrappants I bet that that was a fun and interesting auction to attend. And congrats on the Spirograph find, I LOVED Spirograph as a girl, I would have been right in there with you creating lovely designs! beaglemom I have messaged you. chendra I love vintage things. How cool that you came upon that the way that you did and got it for such a great price. And thanks, we have watched Westminster every year since the kids were young (teens now). I used to let them stay up late even though it was always a school night. I'd love to be able to attend in person one year. twoboyzmom a good fitting pair of jeans is always a great find. stittsygirl what a cool little piece! I love the top and edging especially. Bitchy Rich I don't think it's greedy, per se, to buy and resell items. I am sure that I have purchased many things on ebay or locally on line that were sourced from garage sales or thrift stores. And I am glad that someone found them and recognized what they were and made them available to me. Especially older/vintage items that might have otherwise ended up in the trash. Skellinton no idea what I'd do with the little drawer either, but I'd definitely have bought it too, especially for that price. Nicole in TX I love the colour of those jars! My mom, sister and I did that for our birthdays for a few years, set a limit of $10-$15 and bought each other items from garage sales only. One year we might give/receive one bigger thing, another year we might give/receive a whole bunch of things. It was a lot of fun, but my mom and sis rarely go yard saling any more. Have fun with your exchange! seikashaven I really like the Jones New York stuff. @megmc I am not entirely sure what that is, I will have to google it, though I have an idea. I will keep my eyes open for you. crittsmom hopefully your luck will change soon. Thanks for sharing, everyone. I always love the diversity of things on these threads.

I have become interested in the idea of offering photography services, and am planning to do some portfolio building to see whether I actually enjoy it and am prepared for the business aspect of it, as opposed to just the fun part of taking photos. So, I have been looking for things to use as props. Last weekend I found this cute stuffed teddy bear and Eyeore, still with tags on them. The bear was $2, Eyeore was $1. The giraffe print blanket was $2. Even if I only ever use them for taking photos of our grandson, it is still worth a few dollars. I found this neat woven platter that could be used for posing newborns. I am thinking that might be what the seller used it for too, because at the same sale I bought these two knitted baby cocoons/sacks. I paid $1.50 for all of them. My favourite find was a Star Wars Episode 1 Collector's Edition Monopoly game. Ds, 18, is a HUGE Star Wars fan. It was $2. Dh, myself, ds and ds's gf played it on Sunday. I really like the pewter game pieces. I also bought several cute infant and baby hats in different sizes and styles for both genders. I also got some red tartan ballet flats for $2. We won't be getting out this weekend because of stupid mandatory overtime at work. I might have to hit the thrift store on Sunday to get my fix. And if anyone else picks up anything this weekend, be sure to share! Either here or on a new thread.

I got 20 books at the library book sale for $9! I was pretty happy. They included Spotty by Margret Rey (A favorite of mine when I was a child), Corduroy (also a favorite) and that Charlie the Tramp book that I think I read about in a "do you remember this book" thread here. If I can't find the pea who was asking about it it was a cheap addition to our library
