I LOVE eggs, but stay away from them due to the cholesterol. SIGH. One of my friends recommended egg beaters. . . Blasphemy, I said! YAY OR NAY? M---who ate an omelet twice this weekend!

Nay. They're just...off.
I will use liquid egg whites in things to lower calories, though, like in an egg white/spinach/mushroom/asparagus/onion/mozzarella "quiche".

From the Mayo Clinic in December, 2014:
If you have two omelettes on the weekend, but then only one other egg during the week, you should be fine!

Yeah, I don't eat eggs with the associated foods-just eggs and vegetables. Often with a Nicaraguan tortilla on the side. Hmmmm................thank you Elaine. I think!

I use egg beaters for baking. I worry about salmonella and my kids/dh like to clean the bowl. I don't think I've ever eaten them plain.

What are egg beaters?
I buy the liquid egg whites and mix in some cheese and it's a filling breakfast.

I don't mind them... I've often cracked an egg and then added some egg beaters to it, so if you want to cut back on the number of eggs but still want volume that might help...
I've only used them for cooking... Onions, mushrooms, peppers, tomato, etc, in a pan... Get them grilled, add the beaters, then some hot sauce or salsa, and scramble...
Also used them for those muffin tin egg things... Grilled veggies in the cups, pour in some beaters, add hot sauce or pepper or spices, and bake in the oven...

I buy liquid egg whites. I like eggs in the morning but don't always want the yolk. I make an egg white omlet with spinach. I usually separate one egg and add some liquid egg white. I prefer the whites from the eggs but don't want to waste all of my yolks.
I make my girls scrambled eggs a few times a week and I use 1 egg, some egg whites (because they don't always finish 2 eggs scrambled) and some cheese.
Are egg beaters the same as egg whites?
Paige.
Eta - I'm not worried about cholesterol - just watching what I eat.

I love egg beaters. I usually get the southwestern style. The texture is different, but it's easy to get used to.

We do eggbeaters here. I like them. Hubby is diabetic and he fixes a great egg sandwich with cheese and bacon for me for breakfast when he is healthy. (Right now he is down in his back and due for back surgery at the end of the month so no egg sandwiches for a while.)

Read the ingredients list! I checked ours, and the only ingredient is egg whites.

yay, in my opinion. I've used them in cooking, and if the price of eggs goes up like it's predicted to possibly do, I may be using them more often.
I've also used them for scrambled eggs, and they never caused me any digestive issues.
And egg beaters are an egg product that's sold in the dairy aisle, in a milk carton. 1/4 cup is equivalent to one egg, I believe.

I think they are gross, and I eat 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast 4-5 days a week.

The "bad" part of the egg is the yolk. If you use one whole egg and two whites you're limiting the extra cholesterol without sacrificing flavor.
Eggbeaters are not the worst thing in the world.

I also get the liquid egg whites-- I like using it for omelets. Eggbeaters are perfectly fine with me. But I also do not mind low fat mayo, fat free salad dressings, turkey hot dogs- and other things lots of people find disgusting-- Lol! But- I still eat eggs- every now and then I just need a hard boiled egg!

Nothing wrong with them. If cholesterol is a concern they are a nice alternative. They are freezable, so if they are on sale you can stock up.

My son got into the egg whites for awhile...i've had them and I liked them. Toss them in a frying pan and add some spices or garlic to them. I'd melt a tiny bit of shredded cheese on them and cook up some veggies. Yummy breakfast!

From the Mayo Clinic in December, 2014: If you have two omelettes on the weekend, but then only one other egg during the week, you should be fine! IF I don't want all of the added cholesterol from more than one egg, I will mix it with egg whites, but I never just eat egg whites, or beaters because they lack the other nutritional benefits that eggs provide.

I haven't had them in awhile but when I tried them last, they were nasty. Can't you just use egg whites? There's no real nutrition in egg whites. It's all in the yoke. It's like Iceberg lettuce. No real nutritional value.

Sometimes I use the Southwestern or the Florentine flavored egg beaters if I can find them at the store. To me, there's not much difference between them and scrambled eggs I add my own extras to.
My doctor told me last month that whole eggs are just fine. She said pastured eggs were all the better. I don't eat them every single day but I probably go through 6-8 a week (I eat two at a time usually) and in all the time I have been eating that many I have suffered no ill effects as of yet.
Given the choice between a whole pasture egg and an egg beater, I don't have much of a preference. For scrambled eggs I don't care. Boiled or fried eggs I prefer pasture. Omelets or frittatas, no preference either, aside from flavor/seasoning.
