OMG get that earworm song outta my head now!
Oh Calliou was one I tried desperately to change the channel on quickly.
Does anyone miss Jack's Big Music show? Wah. Laurie B was on a lot but we loved that show. I'm so sad it went off the air.

I'd forgotten about Oswald! I liked that show. Kipper, too.
When my kids were young, we lived in Seoul, South Korea. We had an hour of Nick Jr. out of Koula Lumpour (I'm butchering the spelling). They had the original Blues Clues and my kids love the "new shows" they had never seen before. And we had Barney in Korean. It never bothered my kids, but they didn't learn Korean either.

I can't do Caillou. DH and I call him the cancer kid- because what 4 yr old never has any hair???
The voices, the weak parenting, the whining- on my word, the whining!!!! I just can't. There are SO MANY other tolerable kid shows, I will not let my kids turn on Caillou. Ha. My friend Cindy thought the same thing..... www.reedsterspeaks.com/2013/07/no-caillou-bald-is-not-the-new-black/

His whiny voice drove me insane too. I wanted to reach into the TV and throttle him, and yell at him to speak in a big boy voice. He's right up there with Barney, the damned show where everyone is happy and farts rainbows all the time.

He was by far the worst children's character ever! I don't do whiny kids or adults, so I didn't even know his song and no, my kids did not watch him!!

What about Charlie brown? he's closer to 10 but he doesn't have much hair either. I just assumed Calliou was like a nod to Charlie Brown.

I always assumed that Charlie Brown's lack of hair was another one of those things that he just 'missed out on' I guess, like getting rocks in his Halloween bag, or Lucy pulling away the football. It never bothered me that he didn't have hair, strangely enough!

I never saw this show but I really hate Dora. OMG. Hate this little shit, even more than Elmo. What kind of person hates Elmo? He's adorable! Ha ha! You can come sit by me on the Dora Hater/Elmo Lover bench!

Imho Elmo is super annoying but becomes less so when you have a child who loves him :-) ...eg i think Mr. Noodle is kind of creepy like a hobo clown but ds loves him so the character has kind of grown on me, as well as Elmo.

LOL I think you've hit the nail on the head with that description! On a related note, when DD was about one and a half, a friend gave her the singing rock out Elmo for Christmas. She LOVED that thing and played the music CONSTANTLY. It wasn't too bad at first, but by the time his batteries wore out I was kind of glad they did! (Needless to say, they *didn't* get replaced...)

Preach.
That kid sucks. In fact, I mentioned him to my coworker (who is the nicest, sweetest person I lnow) the other day and even she went off on her hate for him.

I had my last kid in '96. How did I miss this? The show started in September of '97. I have seen pictures of him but never saw a show or a commercial for him. Now I did watch the Teletubbies and wanted to cry. Barney was my 26 minutes of silence after a long day of teaching. I love Barney. Pretty sure he loves me.

Yep, many other shows I could tolerate over him. Rugrats was bad too. My DS was funny, he didn't like animation too much. His favorite for a long time was Big Comfy Couch. At 17, he doesn't believe me now. Lol I still have nightmares about this: No please over and under Lynette and Lolly a girl and her dolly on the Big comfy Couch? I can't remember it's been 18 years. We used to have to watch this show...

I know a couple of people who want to slap him too. I think like someone else said, I must tune him out when the 4 year old and the 6 year old want to watch him.

How I loathe Caillou.
I eventually had to ban him from the house. Watching him made my daughter whiny and annoying. A few days without him and she was quite lovely again.
I've learned from my mistakes. No Caillou with the new baby. Never. Never. Never!

Now see, Max is the one who gets me from that show. He's like Satan. And where the hell are their parents? BTW, sit me on the bench of people wanting to slap Caillou.

We are a Caillou-free household. Lord knows my son is whiny enough without inspiration.

I hate Elmo. I'd like to punch him hard enough in the throat that he couldn't ever speak again.

Elmo was ok on Sesame Street when he wasn't a main character. Once his popularity soared, he got more and more annoying. Add Elmo's world and he became awful. Just awful.
I guess I should consider myself lucky that I've yet to see an episode Caillou?

I am laughing my ass off over the responses on this thread! The Caillou hate runs deep in this world. I was googling to find out why he was bald and did I ever come across some hate for him! Isn't it funny how a CARTOON character can grate on our nerves so much? Regarding Elmo: I hate his voice too. Thankfully his popularity hadn't caught on when my son was little! I'm pretty sure Dan wouldn't have liked him anyway. Oh...the one that grated on my nerves as a kid was Henrietta Pussycat on Mr. Rogers. Meow cookies meow for me meow Lady Aberlin. Meow are friends. Meow meow Aberlin! Meow here meow! Meow like meow cookie, Lady Aberlin?
UGH!

I loved all of the Sesame Street originals. As an adult, I still love the Muppets. I saw Avenue Q on Broadway and saw a WHOLE different side to muppets and sex. Really. I'll take Elmo any day! I am also fond of Sponge Bob. Yes, annoying voice, but deep down they are really good "people" who have great values.

Actually, the same granddaughter that loves Caillou also loves Daniel Tiger, who now apparently has a show of his own, at least on DVD. Her momma is trying to wean her off Caillou and onto Daniel Tiger, haha.

oh the wonderful Caillou! That oh so "loveable" little boy taught my innocent little guy to throw a temper tantrum when he didn't get what he wanted, to whine like crazy and to top it off if you break a toy that isn't yours, just hide it in a drawer and LIE about it. What a great character for kids to watch. It ranks right up there with Max and Ruby, whiny little bunny who never listens and barely says more than 1 word per epidsode and his not so much older big sister is always in charge of him...always wondered where their parents were!
