watching a little too much pre-school age television, there, are you?? lol!! (how does he compare to Barney?!?)
(I must confess, since we don't have kids, I had to Google him, but I can see how it might be a little- or a lot- annoying)

I'm surprised the little whiny thing is still on. And he is the first kids animated character I, too, want to slap upside the head. Kids are now 15 and 18 and after the age 2 or 3 they couldn't stand him. Thought he needed a spanking. And my kids never got spanked. They just wanted him to get a beat down! They also wondered if he was sick or something with never having hair.

He's annoying, but Dora makes me want to throw a brick through the TV. Thank God DD never really got into that show or I would have gone insane!

Haha. I just spent a week hanging out with my almost two year old granddaughter Avery. She is mesmerized by this show. My son is 26 and I watched what seemed like an endless loop of Barney when he was little. I dealt with Barney just fine. Avery's mom and my son and I got to the point where we were saying very mean things to Caillou on the TV. Lol. I've never even met such a whiny kid in real life! I wondered why he is bald too. Is he supposed to be ill? He reminded me, looks-wise, of Doug, another show my son used to watch. But I liked Doug. I even giggled that his principal was named Mr. Dink. Even though I dislike Caillou so much, I'm about to shop online to see if there is a doll of him for Avery. I'll be nice to her parents and not buy a talking version.

Not a kid but an adult: Laurie Berkner! She is a great singer and has a great show but for some reason her voice annoys me! After one song, I am done.
I agree with Caillou. He needs discipline!

okay, now y'all are going to make me go watch some of it on YouTube, to see just what you're talking about!! I'll report back soon from the perspective of a never-had-kids 46 year old who does like some cartoons very much (Looney Tunes, Animaniacs, The Angry Beavers, etc.) I'm guessing from what you all have written that I won't make it thru a video, though!!
ETA: I watched about 10 minutes of an episode called 'the olive muddle' and the whole tone of the show was annoying to me (the bright colors, the overly-soothing voice of the narrator, etc.) but it would probably appeal to a pre-schooler, for sure. I'll stick with the un-PC Looney Tunes I have on DVD, thankyouverymuch.

Yep, many other shows I could tolerate over him. Rugrats was bad too. My DS was funny, he didn't like animation too much. His favorite for a long time was Big Comfy Couch. At 17, he doesn't believe me now. Lol

DGD likes to watch him. I haven't really paid that much attention, but I haven't noticed that show being as loud and annoying as others. Maybe I just tuned him out-lol.

My kids are now 20/16. If the subject of Caillou ever comes up, they rant. It was funny when they were little to hear the contempt in their voices for this character! Truthfully, I've never really even watched it. It was something our babysitter would put on for the kids at her house.
The Rugrats were another show they despised (as did I) so it was never watched here at home. Like a PP above mentioned, we all took exception to the animation. The bratty character(s) didn't help either.

Come on... He's just a kid who's 4 I loled but now i have that song stuck in my head. .. Great, now I'm singing it too. I didn't mind the show too much except for the one episode where he did have a temper tantrum. Of course, that's the episode one of the kids had to copy. My kids now wonder about the hair too. Just got back after dropping off one of the kids to school - who saw this thread just before we left the house and was singing the theme song as they were getting into the car. I hope they don't accidentally sing it during the day at school and have the others kids laughing.

Laurie Berkner and Cailiou rank up there as reasons parents want to curl up in little tiny balls and sob. The whiney brat...

I can't do Caillou. DH and I call him the cancer kid- because what 4 yr old never has any hair???
The voices, the weak parenting, the whining- on my word, the whining!!!! I just can't. There are SO MANY other tolerable kid shows, I will not let my kids turn on Caillou.

For a network that promoted quality children's television, PBS certainly failed with that one.

Ah memories! DS loved Elmo (MoMo ) and I loved watching Sesame Street because I was too old for it when it first came out. I don't remember being that annoyed by Caillou because seeing how a French-Canadian kid lived was interesting to me. What I most remember was just wanting to have a little snuggle (aka nap) with DS in the late afternoon, lulled to sleep by the hypnotic pace of Oswald, and DS having none of it, this being his time for batshit crazy hyperness.
