Do you use the MAC or Sigma type brushes or the more affordable ELF brushes or a mixture of both? Right now I'm getting the more affordable ones with the plan of replacing them a bit at a time. Some people (even professionals) I have heard use paint brushes for makeup. The paint brushes use the same hair or something but are cheaper because you don't have to pay for the name. I really really want this brush:
Marc Jacobs bronzer brush $78 (yikes)

Love the elf brushes. Because they are so cheap I can replace them more often. Whenever I have more expensive ones, I keep them too long.

I, of course, recommend watching Utube videos. Just google brush reviews and be very aware of what size is good for your face. I have that brush and only use it as a last step blending. My favorite face brushes are Real Techniques and Sephora Airbrush. Specifically the 55 for liquid or powder foundation and the new 19 for eye crease.

For me too long is when they do not clean up as well, the bristles thin or become uneven, does not apply make up as well, etc. - basically it does not do what I want it to do. With elf, I just change it out.

My favorite face brushes are Real Techniques and Sephora Airbrush. Specifically the 55 for liquid or powder foundation and the new 19 for eye crease. Diane I thought that brush would be good for applying mineral foundation. I did just order the Real Techniques brushes (5) for the cuteness factor, long handles, fluffiness and it was a set that had each one of what I needed.
Also ordered another set of eye brushes.
I find that I need more than one of the same brush sometimes because of the color transfer, and I need a "clean" one. Has anyone tried the spongy thing that cleans brushes? I use just a towel right now between uses. (This does not count as washing them.) I love the youtube videos.

I have brushes from Bobbi Brown, Sephora brand, Bare Minerals, Clinique, etc. that I like and use. I guess I'm across the board with them.

Most of the brushes I have are from Bare Minerals. I like their face brushes.
Like you rainbow, I have more than one of the same type for my eye make-up and that got expensive. Wish they had Elf when I started my *collection* - I coulda saved a whole lotta money!

I have brushes from all kinds of sources. MAC, Sigma, ELF, Sephora, Sonya Kashuck....I just collected new types as I found I needed them.
Have you seen the Sigma glove for cleaning brushes? I bought a dog washing mitt for $1 that is very similar and it works well for me.

I have a variety of different brushes, including a nice set someone gave me from MAC. I should probably pare them down. And this post has reminded me that it's been a shamefully long time since I've cleaned any of them. So that's a to do for this weekend. Besides achieving Throbbing Member status, of course.

The only brushes I use and love are Lucy Minerals Ultimate Brushes. I have tried many others--Bare Minerals, Sephora, and several others that I just didn't find to work as well as Lucy's.

If you want to make your brushes last longer wash them with a bar of soap cleaner made for artist use and squeeze dry with a microfiber cloth. I use Elf brushes and have some Estee Lauder ones from way back that are still going strong after using the above cleaner.

I have the regular ELF ones and a whole set of the Studio line ELF ones. The Studio line ones actually fell apart, like the metal bottom fell off the wood handle (and I haven't even got them wet at that point!). If I could afford MAC I would buy those. Makeup Geek has some gold brushes according to reviews I have read. Her prices aren't bad either. *quick question: how do you like your new palettes?

I am such a huge IT cosmetics fan lately. Her brushes are amazing!! I order from QVC because usually their product comes with a brush of some sort for a few extra dollars vs going to Ulta etc.

I like the ELF brushes and wash them every so often with the same soap I use to wash my face. The ELF brushes last and work well and I don't feel bad replacing them when I need to.

I love MAC brushes! I slowly have purchased better quality brushes as a treat.
