I was flipping through a magazine while waiting for a pedicure, and there was an article about "co-washing" your hair, which sounds like it will be perfect for me:
Off to Amazon to order something! Has anyone tried these products, and what have been your results?

So it's basically the same thing as the Wen system? That did not work for me past the first week or so.

I've been doing it for 7 years so, yes.
ETA* the problem with Wen is that it contains silicone which builds up on your hair. If you are going to co-wash, you need to be very careful about choosing products that won't cause build up and won't need to be removed with sulfate shampoo.

I've been doing this for years. I use Diva Curl no poo. Some curly girls can use the cheaper option of Suave coconut conditioner.

I used to be a 'wash my hair every day' girl, but now I only wash it about every 4 days. If I'm really in a hurry I sometimes just use my conditioner, which is Teatree Mint by OGX. I've never used a product designed as a co-wash/condition product but I often see hair that likely would really benefit by such.

I do this a couple times a week. I am another Devacurl user, though I don't use it every wash.

Co-washing is huge for people with curly hair. Personally I prefer a sulphate- and silicone-free shampoo over just co-washing.

I've been using Wen for years. I have fine, straight hair and have never had a problem with build up. Now, i wash my hair every two or three days, depending on my activity. There was a time I used it everyday and still no build up.

I find DevaCurl a bit heavy for my hair - I use any of the Burt's Bees conditioners.

I personally find it is more effective to just wash less.
I "wash" my scalp/hair with water and a vigorous scrub of my fingers every time I shower. I use shampoo and conditioner every 3-4 days. My hair is never greasy and healthier than it has ever been.

I just wash less too. I got dandruff terribly about 8? Years ago and it was a nightmare. Dr, prescriptions, nothing helped. I tried conditioner only but my hair felt yucky, and my dandruff only improved a bit. Then I tried more days with no water/washing at all, combined with a medicated shampoo when I do wash, and that finally worked! I wash it about once a week, and finally have the dandruff under control. In summer if I'm at the beach or sweaty I have to wash it more and it comes back but that can't be helped. Having long hair helps, I don't have to use hair spray, gel, etc to style it- I wear a lot of updos.

I co-wash with Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose conditioner. I wash once a week with Aveda Color Conserve shampoo. My hair couldn't be happier.
The trick in all this is to find the products that work for you, they don't HAVE to be part of a co-wash system.

I permed, curled, did everything under the sun to get those curls. Your hair is amazing. Envy is not a good colour but holy cow do I have it!!!

Co-washing is huge for people with curly hair. Personally I prefer a sulphate- and silicone-free shampoo over just co-washing. I have curly hair and I don't co wash but also prefer what Judie said above. Being picky about my shampoo and conditioner has made a huge difference in my hair, since my hair changed from straight to curly during menopause and I have been colouring it for a number of years to cover the gray. Because of both of these I have dry hair, and it needs some pampering. I use products from a line called Curly Hair Solutions. I also only wash my hair only every 5 days, unless it gets sweaty. Well I guess I co-washed my hair this past weekend when I accidently was topping off my travel conditioner bottle with shampoo by mistake. Although this was the trend before (in the late 80s??) with the conditioner and shampoo all mixed together..I think Prell was the first one to try and sell it.

Never saw that term before, but I have also been doing this for years!
The article mentions using shampoo every few days. I did that when I started but it is now very rare for me to use shampoo, even the designated and sulfate free curly hair shampoos. I don't what they do to my hair leaving it much harder to manage, frizzier, more fly aways, etc.

I haven't used shampoo in probably 5 years. I have curly hair and just condition it every day (have to wet it or I look like I'm wearing a bird's nest on my head). My hair has never been better and my scalp is way less itchy.

I have thin fine limp hair. I get professional color every 2 months or so...it does also get dry now and then. But I also do not have the kind of hair that can be styled without washing or at least wetting first. Has to be heat styled. (Wish I could wake up brush and go...but never gonna happen !) Is this something that could work for someone like me and my hair?

That's what I was thinking. I was reading up on it last night and a bunch of people with thin hair said it did work well...and it's also better for color treated hair. Made a list of good conditioners to try and going to pick one up today.

I have been using a low sulphate shampoo for a few months then switched to co-washing a couple of weeks ago. My curls seem better but not yet great. I got all my information on this from the Curly Girls FB page, where they have a long list of CG friendly products. I've yet to read the Curly Girls book that I bought but guess that the routines would be suitable for other hair types of you want to use gentler hair products.
