Was in the sewing section of walmart last night and they had 4 different coloring books for just $4.50 each...24 pages! In case anyone looking for a cheaper version. I bought this one :

Ooo! I knew somebody here would post about these! I had a 'treat yo'self' moment when I saw these a couple of night ago. I bought two books and some new markers. Currently, there are about a dozen torn out pages on my dining room table, fully colored. My 16 year old daughter and 13 year old son have been coloring with me.
I was thinking about how nice it is to socialize doing a pretty mindless craft. I miss the days when my scrapbooking group would get together and talk while we were working. This reminded me of that. Myself and my kids....coloring on a Friday night.
These books are really pretty! I think there were about six different versions with different type drawings. They are on nice heavy paper that doesn't bleed.

Thanks for posting. I was recently talking with a friend who has cancer about something she could do for just fun and relaxation (as opposed to all the doctor appointments and other tasks she needs to do). I asked about craft activities, etc, and the thing that most appealed to her was coloring. I'd like to give her a gift of an adult coloring book and colored pencils (is that what you use?). But since she'd only be trying it out, I don't want to invest a lot in something that doesn't work out. Glad to know Walmart has them for a reasonable price.

I usually get books from Dover Publishing, Creative Haven. If you search around on amazon, you can usually find some for under $4.50 with free prime shipping. I usually make a copy of the page onto cardstock so I'm not concerned about the thickness of the papers.

Mine had these also. I may pick one up but I guess I'm a child at heart because I still enjoy the kid ones like Scooby, Mickey and TMNT. Lol

Saw somebody mentioned markers above. Do markers work better than colored pencils? I guess they'd have to have a fine point.

I am using watercolors as is my daughter. We like using that better than colored pencils or markers. Do you copy the prints on watercolor paper or just paint on the original? We just use a waterbrush and paint on the original. The waterbrush helps with it not getting too wet. We use a piece of chipboard behind the page we are working on. We also dab off with a papertowel if we do get too much water. My daughter has almost completed an entire book, and it has all turned out so beautiful! The books we choose also only have one design on a page; nothing on the back.

Thanks, Patter! I saw the other current thread on pencils and inks, and I see that there are a lot of ways to go. Since this is not for myself, I'll probably just choose something at Walmart (or wherever I find the book) and let my friend try it out. If she likes it, we can experiment with other media.

I found an Ugly Christmas Sweaters coloring book at Michaels. It made me laugh so I had to get it
