Ds' is in a PopShop band with two other boys. For the last two sessions (semesters), the instructor has chosen their songs. This session, he gave them their first song but has now asked the boys to choose. Actually, since ds is the only one that will sing, the instructor told ds to choose. Ds says the other two help decide.
Anyway, they are looking for suggestions. The song needs to be age-appropriate, no curse words, rock or pop. Ds plays drums and sings, the other two boys play guitar so nothing with keyboards or accordians (darn it, Vance Joy). No acoustic music.
The songs they have performed so far: Float On (Modest Mouse) Know Your Enemy (GreenDay) Where is my Mind (The Pixies) Reptilia (The Stokes) Pulling Teeth (GreenDay)
They are doing Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out this session. Any suggestions? I was thinking the Killers but I need to look up some song lyrics. Ds' thought Fall Out Boy, but again lyrics..... Oh, and ds says "please, no more Green Day". He said he wanted to change the band name to " We Don't Wanna Be Green Day"... Lol

Well bands I have seen recently probably fall within this remit - Walk the Moon might be too pop but they are pretty age appropriate "Anna Sun" etc. some double entendres with relationship references in some songs. Kasabian "Eez-eh" "Switchblade Smiles" "Vlad The Impaler" lyrics are on Kasabian's site. Careful there are a few with drug references in some songs Kaiser Chiefs songs are either about girls or social issues - pretty easy to tell the difference Muse are pretty much a guitar/bass/drum band with some keyboard backup. Cage the Elephant "Back Against the Wall" "Come a little closer"
Frank Turner might have something " The Way I used to be" "I still believe"

Older music - but The Jam were a 3 piece - "That's Entertainment" "Eton Rifles" "What you see is what you get" "Town Called Malice"... loads of good stuff.

I think they are leaning towards a Nirvana song. I think "boring" but I'm not the one getting up in front of crowds and performing.

They should recruit some of their band friends (sax, trombone, trumpet) and play Reel Big Fish's Sell Out! I think the world needs more ska! Let us know what songs they do decide to play.
