We have a landline because it is cheaper to have it through Comcast than not. We finally got MIL trained not to ever call it, and we rarely answer it. So, yes, we have one, but an emergency call would still be made to my cell, not the landline.

We haven't had a landline in about 15 years.
I don't talk in the phone. Ever, to anyone, period.
Even for something important, like a death, I would rather get a text.

We have a landline...sorta. It's technically voice over IP through Verizon FIOS.
We have 2 boys who don't yet have cell phones. DH currently has a cell phone through his work, but when he didn't he was cell phone free. I talk on the house phone all the time...rarely on my cell phone when I'm in the house. My incoming calls are probably a 50/50 split between telemarketers and my Mom. LOL But, I don't see us getting rid of the land line anytime soon. (Plus with the internet, TV & phone bundle, it's probably cheaper to have it than to not.)

We have both......just because Signal can occasionally be an issue but mainly it's just habit I guess. If our elderly parents needed us they would dial that number automatically but would have to look up our cell phone numbers. I'm not one who is joined at the hip to my phone and will often leave it in another room in the evenings so my DDs will call on the landline if they want to get hold of me for whatever reason. I keep it on vibrate at night as it's my alarm clock.

Yes, we still have a landline. Our cellphone reception is not that good on our area. Our HOA even addressed the issue, and talked to Verizon about it. So, we keep the landline. I actually prefer talking on a landline. There is no echo or delayed reception. And my mom, who has hearing issues, has a hard time hearing when someone on a cellphone calls her,

We hadn't had a land line in years, but had one again when we moved because it was part of the cable bundle. I unplugged the phone from it after just a few weeks because it was non-stop telemarketers. I don't miss a landline one bit, and we all sleep with our phones charging at the bedside with the alarm set. It's not a nuisance, no one calls us in the middle of the night or texts. Plus, you can set up a quiet time where the phone will be silent for a set amount of hours, not that I've ever needed to do that.
I guess I don't see the point of having a landline just for emergency night calls.

We don't have a landline. DH turns his cell off at night, I use the "do not disturb" on my iPhone so my phone doesn't ring unless it's one of our kids. We got rid of our landline years ago when we realized it was only telemarketers calling that number, I'm not paying for that.

susie_Homemaker, we really don't get too many telemarketer calls. When I do, I am firm about having them remove me from their list and not to call back. The only company I have trouble with is the one trying to get us to extend the warranty on my daughter's VW. They do not get the message! And @skipping_stones, I turn my phone over too to avoid seeing the light from a notification. Hubby also has people from around the world (India, China, Poland, Ireland, etc.) working for him so you never know when a call may come in. He knows how to manage his phone so I don't get annoyed. LOL!

What's really annoying about the calls I get is that there isn't a person calling. If I were to answer it would just be silence and then disconnect. What I do instead of letting it go to my voicemail is turn the phone on then off so I hang up on them immediately. I get about 10/week and it has gotten on my last nerve!

I love my landline. I don't like having long conversations on a cell. The cell service isn't consistent enough for me.

We all have our phones on do not disturb at night. We do have a landline and everyone who would call with an emergency knows that.

I have a landline, but it's only for work and the only phone is in my office. I keep my phone in my pillow at night because I use it as a sleep tracker LOL
I use the Do Not Disturb feature on my phone to be sure that only a few designated individuals (immediate family) can get through 11 PM - 6 AM. My immediate family also knows that if it's an emergency and they aren't using their phone (so wouldn't come through as a VIP), they are to call multiple times in succession because that will also override the DND.

I need my landline....without it, I wouldn't be able to find my cell phone That LOL! Plus it is bundled with our internet and cable which costs less because we have the phone. I never use it to make a call unless I have bad cell reception (happens occasionally) or if I'm calling a business that I do not want to have access to my cell number. All incoming calls are sent to my cell so I never have to check landline messages.

I telecommute, so I have to have a landline. However, we unplug it at night. DH's cell is on at night, mine is on DND. I guess we might be hard to reach in an emergency, however, we are 9 hours from anyone and couldn't help anyway.. Few people know my cell phone number, not my favourite way of communicating.

I have a landline. My husband travels a lot for work and I like having the peace of mind knowing if I have to call 911 they will get my address instantly from my landline. That doesn't happen with cell phones.

We got rid of our land line a couple of years ago. The only people who used it - besides telemarketers - were my parents, and it was easy enough to have them start calling my cell instead. At night, I put my phone on Do Not Disturb, but have it set so that if someone CALLS, the phone will actually ring. (Alarms will work too.) Perfect solution for me.

I use my landline 95% of the time because I enjoy the sound quality more. In fact, I have a follow me feature on my cell that allows me to check messages on the landline voice mail, so I rarely even give someone my cell phone number. I have this thing about not wanting to talk to people while I'm at lunch, or walking through the mall, or a gazillion and one other public activities. We do have the ringers turned off upstairs, however, so I don't worry about telemarketers waking me. Anyone who would need to contact me in the middle of the night is close enough to us to know the situation and will commit to ringing enough times that the blinking light finally wakes me up.

We have a landline. Calls to Canada are included in the bundled package so it makes more sense to keep the landline with most of our family being there. I'd say 95% of our landline use is calls to/from my dad and MIL. Neither will call our cell phones.
We ignore all telemarketing calls and clear the ones that go to voicemail every couple of days. DD almost missed a call for a job interview because they called our landline instead of her cell which we both thought was odd (her cell was listed as her primary contact number and she put the landline as a backup).

When I lived in NJ, we had a landline- the EH still does. I thought about getting one in my apartment, but money was too tight. One of the things I noticed when I bought my house is there are no phone jacks! I considered getting a landline for the alarm system, but the cost of running the lines....not gonna happen. But even with all that, I sometimes think to "check the answering machine" when I get home! Yes, I'm odd......

I haven't had a landline since 2003. My cell can also be set to silent with the alarm set to ring, and i use the alarm as my wake up.

I cannot use my cell phone at home. Therefore it stays in the car. So we use actual phones with a landline and actual alarm clocks. Family & friends know to call the landline if they want anyone to answer them. And I try very hard (And trust me, it requires much effort.) to make doctor's offices/dentists/schools/etc. understand that a call or text sent to my phone might not be seen or heard for days. Some catch on faster than others.

we both have cell phones, but still have a landline (technically it's over the internet). We've talked about getting rid of it, but since I had a stroke a number of years ago and my BF's cell coverage in our house is almost non-existent, we keep the landline mostly just in case of emergencies, either for us to call 911, or for any family members to call us in case of emergency.
His cellphone is for work, and that # is the one that any customers who have emergencies use-- which could be any time, day or night. Thus, the 'keeping it next to the bed' part of things. We both still have- and use- 'real' alarm clocks.
eta: and yeah, the internet/cable/phone package price is part of the reason we still have a landline.

We keep a landline for the possibility of 911 having to be called. Two cardiac cases at our house. Cell phones don't do locations for 911 like a landline.
also the reason DND cannot be used. It could prevent me being reached, in cases of emergency.
My medical bracelet, my daughters and my moms all have cell numbers on them for ICE. Not the landline number.
I do use my phone as an alarm, but never use vibrate. Not sure it would wake me if needed.

I haven't had a landline since 2006. It's been primarily cell phone. It did make getting internet service a PITA at first because for a while there, you could only get decent internet through the phone company and they'd only do it if you had a landline too. Then there was an independent DSL company that offered decent service. Now we get our internet through the cable company.
My parents still have a landline because Mom claims it's cheaper to keep their cable, internet and phone bundle than it is to drop the phone. I call BS but hey, whatever works. I never call their landline. Now that Grandma has passed, I have no idea why they keep it. Dad barely talks to one sister. One of my uncles only communicates through FB messages it seems like. The other does a lot of emails. 90% of the calls on their landline has been telemarketers.

For a long time after my last move I had cable even though I didn't own a tv. I needed internet service, so I transferred my Comcast account here (there were no other options at the time). The cost of basic cable at the time was $28 a month, the service charge for getting internet service without cable was $27 a month

We have a landline. DH insists in case of emergencies. The only calls are telemarketers and his aunt (who is finally starting to call him on his cell). We almost never answer it and every 4-6 weeks, I'll go through and delete the voice mail messages.
