The $200 fee per sport made my jaw drop a little.
Here high school pays $50 per sport for the first 3, then free. Middle school is 30 for the first, 20 for the 2nd, 10 for the 3rd and the 4th is free.

Wow that's cheap. My oldest was on the basketball team and it was $1000.00 a year. Middle DD was on cheer and that was over $2000.00 (didn't include competition ).

Middle DD is also in Drama which is $250 per semester and if you don't want to do 10 hrs of volunteer time per semester it's another $150 per semester.

To the best of my knowledge, we don't have an activity fee? I think there is one of those sell the discount card or pay kind of deals, but we have a couple of corporate sponsors that pay for the school. We aren't a big school though, so we don't have football-but we do have basketball, soccer, tennis, track and a handful of other sports.
My oldest played soccer, my youngest tennis-the only thing we have had to pay for was transportation for when the bus wasn't available.

We didn't have a fee. The district my kids attended was pretty high in free and reduced lunches and the high school paid for many things. One of my kids golfed and the school paid for everything but his clubs. One tournament he got a hole in one and the AD had a nice plaque created for him. Both of my boys played football.

I have paid anywhere between about $150 and $400 for band (the percussionist was always more expensive than the clarinetist because we had to pay the school-owned instrument fee). Minimal fees for choir (so minimal that I can't remember what we paid). Not sure what people pay for school sponsored sports. We pay $175 for bowling lineage (not school sponsored - it's a club sport).
Any trips (band and choir) we paid for through fundraising or out of our pockets.

There is no fee at either the high school or middle school. The only thing I've had to pay for with my Field Hockey goalie is new socks. We did buy her a set of goalie equipment which is $$$ but she uses that to play for a couple of club teams also. The school provides it for other goalies.

I'm the one who posted that our school charges the $200 pay to participate fee per sport and marching band per student for middle school and high school sports and high school marching band. In addition, each sport and band has additional fee plus fundraising.
Sadly, our fee isn't even the highest in our area (central Ohio) and we are a public school. School levies don't pass except renewal levies (sometimes). Districts are forced to cut and sports are always on the chopping block.

Depends on the activity. We once had a general $25 once per year fee to do ANY after school activity including clubs, NHS or other activities on top of the fee for the activity. That only lasted one year.
Band is $450 winter percussion was $180. NHS is $20. Art club was $10 plus possibly supplies but there never was a fee for supplies I don't know any others.

I don't think they can charge fees in CA. we just have minimal teams..whatever the district can afford. like a few years back..the kids took city buses to football games. no marching bands. sports do fundraising for uniforms, etc.

I've never paid an activity fee for either of my sons. Granted, they haven't done sports, but they have participated in JROTC and drama.
Are we talking about public schools or private schools? My sons have attended public schools.

So many families wouldn't be able to afford that and when we live in an era where extracurricular activities are an important part of the college admissions picture, it seems very wrong to make *school* sports and/or other activities so exclusive. I hope they have resources for eligible families.

High school cheer asks for a $400 "donation" to start. The amount not donated must be covered by fundraising. But that's just the start. Here's a couple screen shots of money I shelled out for the program. I never added it up. I don't think I wanna know!

$140 pay to participate fee per sport (except golf-golf is cheaper). For baseball, we also purchase a "player package" that includes shorts, sweatpants, hoodie, tournament fees, and long and short sleeved T-shirts. That costs about $150.

I pay $100 for marching band plus the cost of summer uniforms, shoes, extra food, gate admissions (for me), and another $60 a month for his instrument. This does not include band camp which was $275.
Since I don't have any kids in school sports I have no idea what their fee is. There is one and there's a cap per family. That much I remember from the paperwork I get every year. I never paid much attention to the $ amount because it didn't apply to us.

My boys did soccer, basketball, swim team, and track. None had a fee per se. There were payments for road trip meals, team swimsuit (swim team doesn't provide a uniform like other sports - who would want to wear a shared swimsuit?), team shoes, and things like that. And of course, there were fundraisers.

Marching band was around $300 this year, because she is in the competition marching band. This includes the following:
2 shirts 1 shorts 1 new shoes for marching-the bandos sucked Camp for 2 weeks Travel to all games and competitions Dinner when traveling And other incedentals
We have a Band Booster club that helps defray some costs, but we have to volunteer 2x to work concessions during home games. There are also numerous fund raisers through out the year.
Band trips, like the upcoming trip to Atlanta are extra.

K-8th school is $50 per sport..no cap but we only have track, soccer, volleyball and basketball
In high school for volleyball I think it was around $250 or so for dd to play
Both schools are smaller charter schools... I have no idea what it is in our regular public schools.

$50 flat activity fee to the school which covers all activities
$75 booster fee for soccer and $75 refundable uniform deposit Various small fees ($10-15) for t-shirts, dry cleaning and books for chorus and band $75 booster fee for track and $25 refundable uniform deposit
My understanding is that the baseball and football boosters require significantly larger fees and/or fundraising commitments for those teams.

It was $5 when my oldest was in 7th grade. Activity bus was free. Then in 8th the sports fee went up to $50 for the school year and activity bus was $25. When she was in 9th it went to $125 per sport and $35 for clubs.
So a lot of people dropped out of the clubs, especially service clubs (helping in the library, charitable clubs). Some kids could no longer play sports because when you have a few kids playing a few sports, you can't afford it.
We also have the additional booster fees that Sarah H mentioned, and the costs are similar.
But they got their fancy new expensive artificial turf that experts they used in their study recommended against getting! That's when all the fees started.

$35 overall for activities to the school (I have never paid it and they never check). Each activity has their own fees but for things like drama, our district is not ALLOWED to mandate that students pay a fee. They have to ask for a donation. It is strongly encouraged but cannot be enforced. Paying a high fee for drama is stupid. Our school puts on professional level shows and the money to run most of it is from previous shows/fundraising etc. They are self sufficient. Band/Cheer etc I understand is more for the uniforms but my dd is in orchestra and I pay a $10 fee for cleaning at the end of the year. If it matters, we live in a very affluent area outside of DC. Maybe the school system picks up more, I don't know.
My kids don't do sports so I can't speak as to what the schools charge.

My school is $200 per sport $50 for choir and $50 for band. $500 family cap. If you can not afford it the school will work out a payment plan or you can work extra concession stand shifts to help offset.
This fee is strictly for the privilege of playing. Any supplies or camp fees are over and above the $200.00.

Ours was $60 for a sport and a $25 overall activity for all students in the school. If I remember right they had raised the activity fee for all students to $50 in my daughter's last year. I had also discovered by reading the regulation book that they couldn't force anyone to pay that fee but most didn't know that.If you were a cheerleader then you had to cover the cost of your uniforms which many years ago ran close to a $1000 - thank goodness I didn't have one who wanted to cheer. I can't believe how much some of your schools charge and that must prevent many students from being able to participate. I know I never could have fielded that much.

All sports and activities at our school were free. The only thing I ever had to pay for was footwear, although when DS went skiing they hired ski boots, but he did want his own salopettes and gloves.
