HGTV used to be my go to channel, I'm going to say back in the 90's. Now I rarely have it on. I loved all the craft shows, Carol Duval, Kitty Bartholomew. Decorating shows like Design on a Dime, or the one with Matt and Sherry. They had great gardening shows on at that time.
Now it is a show really just for entertainment value. They don't really teach you anything. Frankly I am sick to death of the shopping for a home or remodeling a home shows. I am way past that in my life. I wish they would bring back some of the old format craft and decorating shows.
ETA: Anyone remember Dee Gruenig on Carol's show. She was a hoot. Someone posted a video clip that was in my Facebook feed the other day. Forgot about her, she was so enthusiastic!

I was a big Trading Space fan too back in the day....lol. That's how Vern Yip was introduced to the masses and I still love his style. I miss Candace Olson...she is my all time favorite and I love her shows.
I like Fixer Upper too and watch when I get a chance, I can definitely recognize her ascetic but it would be fun to see her design outside her box and do something other than ship lap, open concept, all white woodwork and some of the same staged furnishings. Their designs are fun, but would like to see something a little bit different from them at the same time.

i love house hunters international too. i adore chip and joanna but its formula scripted too... every single damn episode there is some manufactured drama, termites or plumbing or a beam they need or a foundation issue that one or the other of them has to call and run by the buyers... get an inspection and have a contingency for god's sake!! right now dh is watching barnwood builders on diy and its even reaching for manufactured drama, "we have a tight time schedule on this one and the masons better do the footings right or it will be dangerously out of level!" My husband and I were laughing about this yesterday when we were watching Chip and Joanna. Their clients had purchased a house and Chip and Joanna had started working on it. Chip called Joanna over and said "I've got bad news. Look what I've found." Water was leaking through the siding onto the porch. It was so bad the concrete around the leak was crumbling. I'm by no means an expert but if I had taken a quick stroll around the house before I purchased it I would have noticed that problem. You would have thought Chip and Joanna and/or their clients would have noticed it, even if there had been no home inspection. But of course, Joanna wouldn't have been able to make that gut wrenching call to the homeowners if the leak had already been identified and discussed.

There are a few new shows on HGTV that are shown on either Saturday or Sunday at noon or during the week at 10 pm (one is a flipping show with Egypt Sherod) but they are on at such odd times that I can't remember to watch them! And they don't advertise them either. I love Egypt Sherod! She used to be on Property Virgins, but now has a new show called Flipping Virgins. Guess she's good with virgins lol!

I miss the old days of HGTV, too. I am so not interested in real estate. The only show they have that I find interesting is Rehab Addict? I think? The one with the skinny blonde girl who rehabs old houses. I love her respect for history and old neighborhoods. And I haven't seen that show in ages, they probably got rid of it since it was actually interesting.

IMBD shows no indication that it has been canceled yet, so it is probably just on at odd times. But that is probably an indication that they will give it the ax soon too. I used to adore HGTV, but the little I've watched of it lately has been a total snooze-fest.
