HGTV has really gone downhill in the last few years. But I'm finding the Property Brothers on all the time..I use to enjoy them but they are on way too much. Besides HGTV, they now are selling their line of outdoor furniture on QVC plus showing up in Phoenix for home and garden shows. Between them, Love it or List it, Flip or Flop...it's time for something new.

all those shows drive me nuts now. they are all so scripted, the same, every episode. really, you only need to watch the last 5 mins of the show as they recap all along (including at the end). our neighbours were on love it or list. they decided before who was going to want to "love it" and who wanted to 'list it". i teased the boyfriend (mr. list it) that he was very negative. they had decided pre-show to "love it". i hate all the channels i used to watch (discovery, history) - it's all ice road this and gold diggers that. netflix is my salvation....

I got tired of everything needing to be "opened up" and all the taking down walls. I like walls... I haven't watched much HGTV lately because of this.

Not everything has to be "open concept." Exactly! The last thing I want my company to see is my dirty kitchen LOL! Next thing is that they'll take the open concept to the first floor bathrooms as well - keep EVERYTHING out in the open!

I still like them, but I don't watch reruns. They have been around long enough now that there are a lot of prior shows available and HGTV loves to run things over and over and over and over. That's why Chip & Joanna still seem fresh - they haven't filmed enough seasons yet for HGTV to run them for days on end I don't blame them for capitalizing on their fame with other ventures. The HGTV gig will only last so long; they need to have multiple income streams for themselves to be secure in the future. I saw a different show (I think on HGTV too) that was exactly the same concept (twins - one a realtor, one a designer) but they were women. Now THAT is a bridge too far.

I like House Hunters International. I love seeing the homes offered in different parts of the world. Often the couples surprise me at what they end up choosing. I'm another one that is tired of the Property Brothers--sometimes they seem so condescending and it is usually directed at the females, IMHO.

i love house hunters international too. i adore chip and joanna but its formula scripted too... every single damn episode there is some manufactured drama, termites or plumbing or a beam they need or a foundation issue that one or the other of them has to call and run by the buyers... get an inspection and have a contingency for god's sake!! right now dh is watching barnwood builders on diy and its even reaching for manufactured drama, "we have a tight time schedule on this one and the masons better do the footings right or it will be dangerously out of level!"

I totally agree! they might as well rename the network The Property Brothers present HGTV. I'm so over them. their shows are on too much. when they go, I hope they take Love it or List It (both version) with them. Aside from Fixer Upper, HGTV hasn't had any new programming in a long time. they've thrown in some Fixer Upper wannabes but nothing like the shows that Sabrina Soto used to be on, Curb Appeal, and those kind of shows.

I too like House Hunters International...it's the most interesting. Now the new thing seems to be Tiny House shows...both on HGTV and DIY. DIY is copying HGTV over and over again. What is hilarious about these tiny house shows is I spend five months a year in a mountain cabin that is 550 sq feet. I can't imagine the ones that are 200 or less to actually live in. And they tend to be way over priced. You can live in a very nicely designed 400 sq foot park model for less than $40k...they can be very nice including dish washer and even a cute fireplace. And you don't climb up a ladder to get to your bed. It just cracks me up when some diva who is having a $60k tiny house built that has 173 sq feet and she insists she must have a walk in closet. One demanded that she needed to run a beauty shop out of the bathroom. It can cost a lot to get one of those moved. Plus, are they ever hooked up to a sewer or electricity?

HGTV jumped the shark years ago. The only thing that I ever watch any more is Fixer Upper and even that is becoming predictable. I miss some of the old decorating shows. And where did Curb Appeal go? It was one of the few good shows left and I haven't seen it for a long time. I never did like Property Bros.

I miss ranting about Trading Spaces and the terrible things people did to their neighbor's houses on that show. I wish they would revive it, at least temporarily -- the budget cap kept the projects in the realm of do-able for real people, the timeline was relatively realistic, and there were enough designers that you had some variety.

They really do need to bring it back. I was watching videos of some of their most infamous room designs (horrors) the other day, and had forgotten how much I enjoyed that show . I haven't watched enough of Fixer Upper to be tired of it yet, but it is very predictable. Rehab Addict is a favorite I'm trying to catch up on though. I love the idea of restoring old homes to their former glory, not modernizing the charm right out of them.

I a bit of an an HGTV junkie, but this show has never appealed to me for some reason. I have never seen a full episode of any of their shows. I think they are too 'stiff' or something. I just can't put my finger on it but they are boring and I don't like their show.

I know I'm in the minority considering they are everywhere, but I find them...creepy. Something about them just turns me off and I can't watch anything they are doing from Property Brothers to a commercial. But they must be very popular because I feel like they are plastered all over the place lately. I miss ranting about Trading Spaces and the terrible things people did to their neighbor's houses on that show. Yes!!! I used to LOVE this show and sometimes I hated what they did and other times I loved how things turned out. To this day I still remember the episode where the woman was explicit about NOT TOUCHING her fireplace and then they changed it anyway. She was very upset and if I recall correctly she had to leave after she saw it. Good times! (eta: now that I've watched the video I feel so bad for her. Both her and her husband were very upset. I remember at the time it was such a dramatic incident that I thought it made for good TV and here I am laughing at how bad it was. Shame on me!) Oh! I found it!

I really wish they would bring back the decorating shows.
Also, Trading Spaces was total crack. I could never believe any homeowner would allow any of them except Vern touch their homes. I remember the episode where Hildi dyed someone's carpet orange.

I've been saying for a couple of years that HGTV must have fired their programmer and put the channel on auto-pilot, because they can only seem to show marathons of one show at a time. There are a few new (to me) shows that are fairly good, but they show them at really odd times and I've only stumbled across them accidentally. It's really a shame they don't offer more variety in their shows. For those missing the older design shows, you might want to check out The Design Network. There are quite a few good design, DIY and entertaining shows to watch online. I looked around for a while and could not find information on the COST of viewing the shows. Can you tell me???

I hate Property Brothers because unless you are a television show, you CANNOT get all that work done in 6 weeks. Not a chance.
I despise Flip or Flop. What an annoying pair.

Does anyone else remember the time Hilde(?) glued feather to every wall of a bedroom? They really do need to bring that show back...lol
I'm tired of House Hunters and all the pre-prepared and scripted shows... Agree with the PP who mentioned Discovery channel... It feels like it's all mining or trucking atm... I'd like more of a mix of themes...
Speaking of networks, I think I caught the end of a commercial on TLC for a special about the two Duggar girls that were abused by their brother? WTF?

Property Brothers is definitely staged. You have to have a closing date on the house you want renovated BEFORE they will even audition you. The whole house selection part of the show is completely fake because you've already bought the house! AND - there is the possibility you buy a fixer-upper and then you aren't even chosen for the show - that would suck!
You have to have a $100k budget for renovations. They do say you can receive up to $20k of furnishings which would be nice.
My friend made it through the first selection process but she was so nervous about buying a house and then not getting chosen that she backed out.

There are a few new shows on HGTV that are shown on either Saturday or Sunday at noon or during the week at 10 pm (one is a flipping show with Egypt Sherod) but they are on at such odd times that I can't remember to watch them! And they don't advertise them either.
