I am finding it kinda hard to find chalk paint.. I went to Lowe's and they have some (they call it chalky paint).. in forty colors.. of course not one is even close to what I want. I went to Michael's and they didn't have any. Target had a little tiny selection.. like eight colors.. but not what I am looking for. So I am kinda stumped. I want a turquoise or coral color (leaning towards coral).. and white.

Martha Stewart makes some nice colours, as does Prima and Folk Art. There is a good Michaels coupon here for 30% off your regular priced purchase this weekend. Maybe see if there's anything left there. I bought about 10 bottles not that long ago.

I buy it at one of our little boutiques. I only use Anne Sloan paint!! it covers so well, and looks so nice. It's worth the cost. Go to the anne sloan website and I think it tells you local carriers of it.

Of all the weird things to happen.. So I have heard of the Annie Sloan's paint.. so I went to Google it to see where it was sold at. TODAY a store opens up in my town that specialize in Annie Sloan's paint. It was their very first day opened. I live in a pretty small town, so this is just WEIRD... guess I will go check it out next weekend.

I make my own! Any color flat paint, I usually use Walmart brand.
1/2 cup paint 2 tsp calcium carbonate (ordered from Amazon) 2 Tbsp water
I've have great results with that recipe. Did all my kitchen cabinets and tv stand and end tables in living room.

My Michaels has a huge selection of chalk paint. Maybe you can ask a clerk if the Annie Sloan paint doesn't work out.

I have made my own also. But, I added non-sanded grout to the paint, acrylic paint like artists use. That way I can get the color I want. It also will work on fabric if you fabric paint.

I make mine all of the time. Just go get a sample of the color you like. You can get a sample of any color at Lowe's or Home Depot for under $5. Then I use plaster of paris to make mine and I got the plaster of paris at HD. This is the recipe I use~ eta...well, that's hard to read. Add 1/4 C plaster to 1-2 T hot water and dissolve. Then mix in with the paint. A sample of valspar from Lowe's is about a cup. Stir it really well. I shake and stir often to make sure it's mixed well. I usually get a flat and not glossy paint.

In my experience with using chalk paint, I'm going to stick with Annie Sloan. I've made my own, I've bought Martha Stewart and even the chalk paint Target carries and while fine for small pieces, the Annie Sloan really is better....it's like comparing a cheaper grade paint to Farrow & Ball, a high end paint. I get my Annie Sloan paint at a local retailer, not a chain...she's a licensed retailer. It's an investment for sure, but with if you choose the right colors, you can mix to get other cool colors too.
I'm getting ready to do a kitchen hutch in Greek Blue with French Linen underneath that will show through when I distress.

Thanks for all the tips. I will go check out the Annie Sloan's stuff and probably go with that. Making my own.....welllll it's stressing me out just thinking about it. lol
My project? Well my daughter is moving out.. joining the Navy.. and I will finally have my own office/scrapbook space... I got two decent bookshelves from the school I work at. They are not the cheapie pressboard type but they are in a little rough condition. Right now they are white. I just got finished pulling off contact paper someone put on them years ago. I am getting ready to wash them down. Now from what I understand I don't have to sand or prime or do anything to them before painting... so, if that is the case, I'll get the paint and start away.
I will definitely talk to the gal at the store. I see she has done quite a bit of this and is licensed (or whatever).... so I am sure she will know exactly what to do.
I want to paint them white and then maybe do a coral or turquoise against the back part.. does that make sense... so mostly white with a bit of color...
I am still debating what color to paint the room.. going towards a turquoise and having coral, pinkish and yellow for the accents.. (I have two posters from California my daughter is leaving behind and they are really cool and have all those colors in the pictures... ).. So I keep turning those colors around in my head....I was thinking turquoise on the walls and a very very very light turquoise ceiling.....cause I have to paint the ceiling anyways... due to dd trying to paint on her own and didn't do it properly.. her room looks like a jail.. BRIGHT yellow and an ugly grey.. it turned out horrible!

That sounds nice! I used the chalkboard paint over a piece of furniture that already had a finish on it with no problem, so I think it will work really well for what you have in mind. I did two coats because the paint was cream and the furniture was brown, and it looks so much better now.

The Anne Sloan pants cover very well, and you don't need to prime, or do anything. Just paint. I do often do a few coats though to get just the right color.
