Thank you for teaching my 12 year old and his classmates about pubic lice. The thought never crossed my mind when we discussed puberty, sex, and related topics. In fact, I don't even remember the last time I thought about PL.
However, you might want to send a warning note home about the topic each week, because telling said 12 year old that PL are the same as head lice translated to said 12 year old announcing in the car that he never wanted to wash his hair again so he wouldn't get PL.
Totally not the conversation I was expecting when I asked "learn anything new?"

Haha that's funny!! But.... telling said 12 year old that PL are the same as head lice They're not the same? I remember a woman I very briefly worked with telling me all about how her teenage son had pubic lice and what he had to do to get rid of them. Why would she tell me that when I'd only just met her?

I guess technically they are the same. I think I read something about a size difference. *snort*

There are three different kinds: head, body & pubic.

Ok strange question, but since it is hair, is it possible head lice could be introduced to the pubic area and live?
The stuff we talk about here...

Ok I googled yo make sure that crabs and public lice were the same thing and the mayo clinic says crabs and head lice are not the same louse. I learned that the distance from the hairs decided the creature. Since the hairs on your head were so close together, the creature's clampers were different than the ones in the lady garden. Those hairs were much further apart. I thought I was listening in sex ed.

There are three different kinds: head, body & pubic. When they talk about avoiding head lice, they always point out how lice actually prefer very clean hair. They don't want o make their home in dirty hair or hair heavy with product. that's why when there is a lice breakout in schools some parents opt to use heavy handed amounts of hair spray in their kids' hair to discourage lice. So I figure her son has heard of that and now thinks he better not keep things too clean to attract any lice anywhere else. Poor kid. What a thing to be worrying about.

So, teacher saying the two are the same filtered through a most-likely half-listening 12 year old boy brain ended up with him thinking that he'd be safe from pubic live by not bathing.

Ok strange question, but since it is hair, is it possible head lice could be introduced to the pubic area and live? The stuff we talk about here… I just read more than I ever want to know about lice . From what I read, PL can spread to other parts of the body with hair (armpits, chest hair and facial hair). I was thinking maybe PL need a warmer (moist?) environment to thrive, but the facial hair kind of throws that theory out. I couldn't find anything about HL migrating off the scalp so maybe it does need a cooler, drier environment to live. BL lives in clothing seams, not on the body.

I'm quite tired of hearing that head lice prefer clean hair to dirty hair. Lice evolved in filthy hair environments and while we all know that clean people get them too, let's face it--they're not endemic in the cleanest of environments and absent in unhygienic people. Quite the opposite. That's just something some school nurse made up to make people feel better.
Clean hair is in no way going to attract them more than dirty hair, and in fact if you wash your hair a lot, you'd be more likely to wash away any bugs before they laid eggs. That's just a scientific fact relating to their life cycles.
But yeah, anyone at all can get them, clean or dirty.
Pubic lice = crabs, not the same as head lice, I thought everyone knew that. I'm surprised crabs haven't gone extinct with the amount of bald genitals nowadays!

If it makes you feel any better, my girls would probably say the same thing! Oh the funny things our kids say!
When we went to meet the teacher night for my 8th grader a few years ago, the health teacher was telling us about the different things he will be teaching. He told us that when he does the std talk, the boys stay far from the girls and vice versa. All the kids claim they never want a girlfriend/boyfriend!

Haven't you seen the South Park episode?!?!?! One of the boys has lice and one louse travels off the boys head and ends up in Gena Davis' crotch. At least I think it was Gena Davis. I would have to watch that episode again. My name is Kelly and the mom louse was also named Kelly. I got teased!!!

And once again the topic of a thread winds its way toward the practical use of the merkin.
