I think there is only one left in the San Diego area - its in the Point Loma Area - of course I am drawing a blank on its name - they have more vintage type things and lots of punches or they did the last time I was there. The amazing store in Carlsbad closed years ago and a couple of other larger ones in the area also closed within the last two years. I just remembered its called Paper tales - looked up the address and it is 3960 W Point Loma Blvd, Suite N, San Diego 92110 papertales.com/Good luck I still remember 10 years ago when there were about 20 stores in the country and then they started dropping like flies and then we had about 7 for a while and now ... Of course I moved an hour away and have even less selection.

Let me know what you think It is a cute little store I really need to make it back in there myself I haven't been in about a year and a half to two years. I usually find something cute. It just isn't big like the one in Carlsbad used to be.

The Making Place is in Escondido and is a really good store and they stay current with their products. They are closed Sunday and Monday. Just a heads up that the shop owners and a lot of the customers seem to be a part of the same church community. They have never tried to push their beliefs on me, but there's often people hanging out having talking about their faith and church stuff that going on and sometimes they have Christian rock stuff playing softly. It's a nice shop and the staff is friendly and helpful. themakingplace.comIf you're going to the wild animal park, which I highly recommend, it'll be easy to stop off at the store on the way to the park.

Paper Tales in Point Loma is great. The Stamp Addict in La Mesa is good too. Lots of stamps but quite a bit of paper and other goodies too.

Paper Tales isn't the only game in town. It is a lovely store - very boutique-ish "ritzy", but you also pay for that atmosphere. It probably is the best in San Diego if you are primarily interested in scrapbooking, though they have more than enough to satisfy any stamper too. Their stock is very current and trendy. They host "big name" scrap designers. Their classes are rather pricey. Personally, I have stopped shopping there because of what a friend of mine calls "the snob factor". The Stamp Addict is still open in San Diego - a long time favorite with me, even through the ownership changes. It is the opposite end of town from Paper Tales, but I find it has better prices and the staff is very nice. They have an active roster of classes. Most are not my style, but if you are in town when there is a Michael Strong class scheduled ( www.blog.strongstamps.com/ ), it is definitely worth your while and loads of fun. This store is jam packed with stamping, fun stuff and probably the best selection altered art materials of most of the stamping stores in town (which isn't saying a lot). www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=stamp%20addictThere is also Stamp Delights, another favorite right down the hill from Stamp Addicts. It is a tiny mostly stamping store just crammed full of stuff. If I can't find it any where else, Debbie usually has it. Note, though, that this store has unusual hours, so call first to find out what they are for the day you plan to visit: www.yelp.com/biz/stamp-delights-la-mesa Also not too far away, but a little hard to find if you are not a local, is "Of the Heart". It is a teeny little stamp store, but does have 12x12 cardstock & some designer paper lines and a few things for scrapbookers. I learned to stamp at this store many years ago, so it has a special place in my heart. I still belong to their "Stamp a Month Club". If you go in to the store, you can find some really good buys on left over monthly stamp kits - like between $5 to 8. Also, if you are there on a Saturday, check to see if the have any openings in their classes that day - Most are only $15 and usually a great deal for the money. They will normally try to "fit you in" if you explain you are from out of town. The owners, Bev & Gretchen are very nice. www.of-the-heart.com/Since these stores are owner operated, I would call first before setting out to go there as sometimes if there is a family emergency, they may be closed. Hope that helps!

Nice choices, so glad to see there are still a few. Thanks for the more local ones too. I'm checking the sites now.

This is such a great list. Thank you, skippet . I will be in the area for two weeks next month (Feb 8-19). I am already checking out the classes at the stores you recommend. Are there any special events going on then? I love both scrapbooking and quilting. (As a side note: Last year I discovered Eleanor Burns' quilt store in San Marcos. I took a class there and I learned more in three hours than I had in ten years of quilting )

scrapbookwriter I hope you have better luck than I did. We were so busy I didn't get in any shopping. That was a good thing- until I returned home to the LSS desert. I miss having a LSS! The stores listed sound wonderful!

I do rather like the faux cloisonne class Of the Heart is having this coming Saturday. It is only $15 which is pretty cheap for most of the classes in the area. It is the "Stamping with Bobbie" class: www.of-the-heart.com/classes.shtml I also like their selection for the International Stamp of the month club and the dies for February though I believe they raised the price of it last month even though the listing doesn't reflect that: of-the-heart.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=67Stamp Addict is good about posting their classes far enough in advance that you can plan well. Debbie is not good about keeping her website current, but does post classes to her facebook page, but only 4 or 5 days in advance. You could maybe call her and tell her when you will be here as ask what classes she has during that time. I hope you have a great time here!

It is called: www.rosiescalicocupboard.com/Stamp Addict is at 7151 El Cajon Blvd and the quilt shop is in the same center. They have more than one suite there, but I think one is their classroom.

Hope that helps! I spent some time at The Stamp Addict Friday. The new owner Roxanne is absolutely delightful and welcoming. The store offers a "Coffee and Craft" all day on Fridays so customers can come socialize while crafting. There is a core group of lovely women who come in every Friday. They were immensely friendly and we are now BFFs. I also discovered several tools I didn't know I needed - not sure how I got along without them all this time I loved The Stamp Addict and only wish I had arrived earlier in the day so I could have spent more time there.

I'm planning my next visit to San Diego area. I'll be spending ten days in San Marcos in December while my husband works. I will really miss The Making Place. It was a wonderful place to spend my days. I don't suppose you have opened your scrapbook store yet, have you tinksmommy ? (fingers crossed) If not, I will be driving to The Stamp Addict and Paper Tales. I might also check out Stamp Delights. Any other crafty recommendations? I will also spend a day or two at Quilt in a Day, my favorite quilt store on the planet. I am hoping they will have an awesome class or two so I can learn while I play.
