The kids in the program were told over the weekend by their parents. A grief counselor was there this morning to talk to all the kids...split in 2 groups...the young kids and the older kids.
The older kids took it pretty hard. They were all crying in the group. DD said that she cried too...just seeing the pain they felt. (she said she felt already cried out over his actual death)
There are pretty tragic circumstances in regards to the boy's life. Apparently he was in an abusive home. His sister (who is married...with a child close to the boy's age) got custody of the boy and he's been in their family for only 5 months.
It was his sister's child who found him. Technically they're uncle/niece to one another, but they were more like brother/sister...because their ages were so close and they lived in the same house.
Tonight DD told me that she's thankful that he had 5 months in a loving home. Can you imagine 5 months in a loving home "being enough"?
Brings me to tears.
The kids in the program drew pictures today...many were "for" the boy. DD was telling me about some of them and I was choked up. I'm so glad she was able to talk about it.
The service is tomorrow.

So sad, at least he had 5 months of happiness---not enough IMO --we all deserve a lifetime of happiness. Sending hugs to your daughter and all who knew the little boy and his family.

Bless their little hearts, and oh my, that poor boy! Your daughter is an angel to be so tender to their pain. RIP sweet boy.

I'm so glad she was able to talk about it.
Me too. Saying a prayer for her and the rest of his friends and family today.

I'll never understand why these things happen. I'm so sorry! I was following your post from day 1 and I remember holding out a little hope from the start that he would pull through. *hugs* to all.

Poor little guy. Makes me wonder if the abuse he suffered at the hands of his parents included any trauma to the head. That is one possible cause of an aneurysm.
Regardless, it's a terrible thing for everyone involved.

I have been thinking about your dd.
As a teacher I have cried with my kids. It is a huge thing for them to see that we universally share the same emotions. Please reassure that what those kids need is lots of hugs and a safe place to come. She is helping the other kids so much by being there each day.

Regardless, it's a terrible thing for everyone involved. I wondered about that too. Since the his history is "well known" to his family (and perhaps even authorities...IDK) I wondered yesterday if an autopsy was done because I too wondered if his prior abuse had any factor in what happened.

That poor little boy. I am glad your daughter has opened up and talked some about him. It will help her deal with her grief.
