No school here. The schools all had Veteran's Day assemblies today. DD said they had a Medal of Honor winner speak at her school (high school), DS' s school (Jr High) also had speakers and the school band played. I was subbing in an elementary school today and they had the 5th graders sing and read letters to the Veterans and then all the Veterans (who were family members of the kids) went up front to introduce themselves. It was very sweet and the kids were so respectful and well behaved. All 700+ of them walked absolutely silently out of the gym after Taps was played.

No we do not have tomorrow off. There are Veteran's Day things at the elementary schools, but not really at the high school level as a school. Individual classes may.

The public schools are off tomorrow, but the boy's charter school isn't. There is a big assembly though in the morning, and then it is business as usual.
Makes me a little sad. There are a whole lot of vets these days-and that should be recognized with more than an assembly.

Our schools are closed in Illinois. Hey! Then why am I teaching there tomorrow?! I work in several adjacent districts: half are off, half are not. Oh, and many of my schools have a Veterans' Day programs and invite vets and community members. Sometimes they do it on Memorial Day, instead.

Kids are in 2 different school districts, and neither one is off tomorrow. Oh, but by golly, they got Columbus Day off.

We homeschool, but we take that day off because my husband has the day off.

My kids both have school but both schools (high and middle) have special assemblies dedicated to remembrance day from 10:00 to 11:30. There are speeches from military members of the community and bands pla, students read poems, essays tehy have written and of course a minute of silence.
The debate about closing schools for the day has been talked about it for a while but it is thought that more remembrance takes place when they actually "celebrate" it in school rather than as a day off.

We have school tomorrow. No official district programs for the day, though I know some individual schools do things.

DS is not off this year, for the first time. That being said, his current school does recognize the occasion, while his public school never did.

In Australia we call it Remembrance Day and there are no holidays from school or work. Most if not all workplaces and schools have a minutes silence at 11am and often have some other commemoration activity. This is true in Canada, too.

Thanks for all the responses! It's interesting to see how different schools are. Some of your schools seem to really make a big deal out of the holiday, that's awesome!

Yes, and my husband too. It's feeling like a Friday night around here right now. My husband has told the kids they're going to spend the morning raking, while as a veteran he gets to sleep in .

No school here. The schools my kids have attended have always done some kind of program. My husband has attended each year. My DD's school, high school, had an assembly but to my knowledge didn't invite any veteran's other than the guest speaker. My DH went to DS's high school where they invited veteran's from student families (about 10). They fed them Jimmy Johns and had a program for them. A student organized it. It's a very small school (about 150 students).

My district has school tomorrow. We used to take the day off, but have not for several years now. The junior high, where I will be tomorrow, has an assembly at the end of the day. The elementary does not but teachers may be doing things individually to explain the day and celebrate veterans.

Our schools are not out. However, my son (freshman in high school) is in JROTC and is marching in a Veteran's Day parade.

No they don't have school tomorrow/Veterans' day - and they had an assembly in all the schools in our district today. Oh well I guess except the high school according to DD now that I just realized I didn't hear about that one. DH went to DS' school (middle school) today where they had invited all veterans to join the assembly, it was nice.

Schools and work are both open tomorrow. No programs at the MS or HS, but a few years ago our elementary had a very nice program.

My dd's school was off on Monday. My school is off tomorrow. I'll be spending the day babysitting the foundation repair guys. Our foundation has been leaking like crazy. I'll also be working, unfortunately. I have so much paperwork to do. I don't have any hope that I will catch up, but I've got to at least try.
