If they do have school, do they recognize Veterans Day? My DH is a 22 year Army veteran and it really irks him that the kids neither have the day off nor do they recognize it at school. I think it's because, if it doesn't fit into the curriculum, the teachers can't take the time to do any special projects. My 2 high schoolers have finals this week and my 6th grader isn't studying social studies this trimester, they are having their science unit. I don't have a middle schooler, but I think they might do something since they are studying US History right now.
So, I was just wondering what other school districts do, if anything. My nieces go to school in a different state and they always do special projects and/or have a program, at least up through middle school.

It is a holiday here. They acknowledged Veterans' Day at the school assembly on Friday, but to my knowledge, they do not do anything else.
DS's Cub Scouts den is doing some things, though.

Mine have school. The will have a Veteran's day program in the afternoon. All local veteran's are invited and recognized. My brother in law has been to the middle east twice and has been to every program since. He has a young son who attends the school who is very proud of his Daddy.

Schools are off here. They had a veterans day assembly in school today (I don't know what was involved.) Tomorrow the three towns have the laying of the wreaths on the veterans memorial monuments, and DS will be there with the boy scouts. It's really a beautiful ceremony.

We are out of school tomorrow. My son's kindergarten class colored a Veteran's Day picture today in class today and wrote Thank You on it. They have been talking about what this day represents over the last few days.
They were asked to give it to a Veteran they know or if they were going to the parade tomorrow to hand it out to one there.
My son will be giving his color page to his uncle!

Our schools are closed in Illinois. Our town has a Veteran's Day parade that my youngest in is for her grade school band. Thinking our parade will be cancelled due to severe weather forecast for our St. Louis area tomorrow.

In Australia we call it Remembrance Day and there are no holidays from school or work. Most if not all workplaces and schools have a minutes silence at 11am and often have some other commemoration activity.

Yes, schools are closed tomorrow. Actually they were closed today also for teacher in-service and conferences, so they did an assembly on Friday morning. The chorus sang and they had a brunch for all the Veterans that came. A really nice presentation.

Schools closed here. I don't do anything about the holiday in my class, as it doesn't fall under any of my standards, just as I don't do anything for Valentine's, Christmas, Halloween, etc. But the school as a whole recognizes our veterans on staff and we have a few things leading up to the day during morning announcements. It isn't ignored here by any means.

Tomorrow is a normal day of school for us in public school and at my preschool.
The kids in my DD's school have an assembly and have invited active duty and veteran military and their families.
The library where I work is closed though.

ODS is was off yesterday as an observation of Veteran's Day. The school does nothing to recognize the day.
When I was in school, we had an all morning assembly put on by the local VFW post. Our HS band played, the choir sang, and there were several speakers from the VFW. We returned to classes for the afternoon periods.

When my friend at karate said school is off this Wednesday, I said: "The schools are honoring 11-11 day of synchronicity?" She laughed knowing I was joking and said: "No for Veteran's Day" So yeah they are out here Not sure about karate class though.

Yes, all schools in my city here in Northern Virginia are closed. It's a federal holiday and this school district always follows federal holidays. We also have an Army base here so we're very aware of the military.

My husband is a teacher and they have parent/teacher conferences. This suits me just fine because I am a veteran and I will enjoy the house to myself!

We aren't usually, but the past couple years we have had off for Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, MLK Birthday and President's Day. But teachers have to go, it's an in-service day.
I think this is only the 2nd time in many years that they have had off in the middle of the week (and been off just that one day). They usually have off on Mondays to "recognize" those holidays.
Other schools in our area have school tomorrow.

We do have it off this year, which is unusual.
And yes, they do have programs or special events in each school in the district. They range from special books during reading time for the younger ones, to bringing in photos of veterans in the family, to an actual program in which veterans are invited to attend.

Yes they have tomorrow off. They don't get Columbus/Native people/Indigenous People day off in October. When I was in school we got Columbus day off but not Veteran's day. I guess you can't have both days off around here. DH doesn't get the day off so it will just be me and the kids home all day.

My kids are off for Veteran's Day tomorrow. Our elementary school (K-8) has done a big Veterans Day celebration every year since it's inception in 1998. I love it. We don't have any military in our immediate family and I love that they make a big deal of it so our kids can learn how important these people are. They also honor "community heroes" (police, fire, emt, sheriff, etc) and I like that, too. To my knowledge, we are the only elementary school in the district who makes a big deal of Veteran's Day, though.
Thanks to all the peas who serve, have family/friends who have served and for those who have lost loved ones. Your sacrifice is appreciated!!!

Ours has school but they have been/will be doing activities and lessons around it for the week. My daughter has brought home a few worksheets related to it and they made a book, "If You Give a Hero a Home". They also put up a wall of honor of names of active and retired military related to the kids. All week they've been collecting stuff to send to active service members overseas and they are having a program for the upper grades Thursday night and Friday is wear red, white and blue day.
Growing up my schools were never out and I don't remember any events or activities around it either. I don't even remember any community events but maybe that was because I was in school.

THANK YOU to all of the Pea vets who have dedicated service to this country.

The kids are off and the teachers have to work. No way with five bases in and around the city would they keep the kids in school (in our patriotic district). There is usually a big Veteran's Day parade that lots of people attend downtown.
