I'm getting back into scrapping after a few year break (life got in the way) and I want to dust off the ol' craft robo. Finding that I now have to use the silhouette studio software I have started watching tutorials and commented to my DH that I really like how much easier it is to understand that the old version. To my surprise DH said if I wanted to get the silhouette then do so! I was having a hard time justifying a new machine since I hadn't used the robo much because of the learning curve. So convince me why I should/should not upgrade, what can the silhouette do that the robo couldn't? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm...I made that same move sometime ago and I'm trying to recall my thoughts. All I can say is, I'm not sorry I took that step! I think (and I am really working from memory here) the Silhouette Cameo is simply a more sophisticated machine all round. My dh was hoping it'd be quieter - I'm not sure that it is ;-) - but there are clearer controls, for sure. Otherwise, I'm not sure how many of the other improvements are software-influenced - I mean, could the Robo cutting speed/pressure be adjusted? (I can't remember) When I bought my Robo, there were hardly any resources and like you, I didn't really use it much. But these days there are all kinds of media to use, I've cut fabric and vinyl really successfully with my Cameo and though I don't use it everyday, I know I'd not want to be without it.
Could I have done all of that with my Craft Robo? I think I possibly could...but I didn't! Was it the new machine that made me explore a bit more? I think that it might have been. I'm sorry, all of that ramble probably doesn't help one little bit! Dust off your Robo and give it a bit of a stretch. See what you can/can't do with it before you make your decision?

Can you do Print & Cut with the Craft Robo? I know you can with the SD, but that is newer.
I love the larger cutting area of the Cameo.

The larger cutting area was the big draw. At the time I used to mainly do 8.5 x 11 layouts so the robo was fine but for travel and Christmas albums I do 12 x 12. I have the original c100 robo (blue lid) and although I can adjust the blade using different colored caps it never did a good job with thick card stock even using multiple passes. I would like to cut some heavier materials but I don't know if that is possible with the cameo.

Yes! I used to use my Craft Robo and loved it, but the silhouette does so much more and is way more user friendly.

There's also the ability to use a pixscan mat and cut out pre-printed images etc.
