I have OPI Red on my toes and want to do Essie Smokin Hot on my fingers.
But also want to paint my nails Essie Baubing for Baubles, OPI Ski Teal You Drop, OPI Nein, Nein, Ok Fine! I can't stand fall, but love the nail colors for fall!
Also, has anyone gotten any of the new holiday colors? I want to try China Glaze Cheer Collection - Peppermint (a red) but can't find any swatches of it on nail blogs.
Has anyone tried OPI Nail Envy? I am trying it this week, but prefer a color on my nails. Does it work as a basecoat with nail color on top? Or is it best to use alone and reapply a coat every day?

Nothing at the moment. I've given my nails a rest this past week and will probably paint them tomorrow.

I usually just do solid colours, but lately Ive been trying to do my own french manicure. I watched a few youtube videos to see how they are manipulating the brush. Im just having trouble finding the right shade to use as the top coat, and I would love some suggestions. My most recent purchase to try was a China Glaze (Im at work and don't have the name handy it might be diva bride) but is just a tiny bit too pink, and it's tinted the tips so they dont look white anymore.

For some reason, if my polish chips and I am lazy about taking it off for a few weeks, it's fine. But once I take my nail polish off, my nails hurt until I at least put a base coat on. It is probably the nail polish remover, but I have tried so many different kinds and my nails always "hurt" until I polish them again. So the only rest my nails get is when my nail polish is chipped.

I'm wearing Grape Gum by CND Weekly Polish (It's lasted way more than a week, btw.) I love purple, I'm a purple girl, but this one is just a tad too bright for me. With Thanksgiving next week, I'll probably go more bronze or copper.

I never wear anything on my fingernails, but I had my toenails done today for the first time since the summer and went back to my old favorite, a coppery metallic color called "A Woman's Prague-ative". I've been wearing it for a couple of years now and keep going back to it. It's just right for fall.

Zoya Caitlin. A gorgeous lavender grey. In the bottle it looks more grey and I was not sure I was going to like it. But is is soooo pretty and I have gotten oodles of compliments.

I'm still sporting my "hooker nails" Gel nails that are a french manicure with sparkles in the white part ... and they are long! (Time for a fill this week)

Nothing at the moment my nails were really suffering from something either the polish or the remover. I had to give them a rest. I wish I knew what had damaged them so badly. I was really enjoying polishing my nails did it all Summer long, changed maybe every 7-10 days, and in sept my nails were falling apart. I've never had that hapoen before. They are nearly grown back now but I'd like to protect them if only I knew hat did it. ( yes I wore a base coat, always )

My 12 yr. old does her nails all the time but always peels off her polish. But she used Gelous and OPI Ski Teal You Drop and her nails have looked good for a few days!

I am on my third week of my first gel polish and my nails still look great. I'm wearing my favorite red/black. I am soooo hooked on gel polish, I will never be without it again.

OPI My Private Jet on my toes (ready to be changed) and OPI Taupeless Beach on my fingers. I love Taupeless Beach. It's the most beautiful "greige" tone on me.

nothing on either. My toes were in bad shape and needed a break. The damaged part is almost grown out on both big toes. After too many months being polished I get white spots and the nail tops get rough. I haven't made a commitment to my fingernails yet. they have been growing great but my cuticles look like yuck. Need professional attention!

Nothing on either my finger nails or toe nails. I've been taking biotin for six months now and my nails finally look healthy and pretty. I just buff and shine them with one of the foam core buffing blocks.

I just buff and shine them with one of the foam core buffing blocks. Biotin has worked amazingly well on my nails. I've been taking it for a while now, and my nails have improved drastically, in growth and strength.

Essie has about a jillion sheer pinks that might work for you, but I don't have any of them so I can't rec one in particular. Pink Glove Service might work. Paint the base pink, apply a quick dry top coat like Seche Vite, let dry a good while so it's not dentable, use scotch tape to tape off the upper part of the nail leaving just the part you want white. Put it on the back of your hand first so it's not quite as super-sticky. Smooth it down nice and firm, paint your white, and immediately take off the tape. Let it dry a bit then apply your pink base again over the whole thing so the whites aren't too stark, unless you like that look, in which case you'd just apply another round of topcoat. The tape works really well unless you have very curved nail beds. I don't do the traditional pink and white but I do the "funky french" sometimes, usually with matte and shiny polishes. I never can seem to get it perfect just with a brush!

Thanks so much! So sweet of you to link it for me. They have the collection at our Ulta but no "painted nail" things (have no idea what they are called) to look at.

My most recent purchase to try was a China Glaze (Im at work and don't have the name handy it might be diva bride) but is just a tiny bit too pink, and it's tinted the tips so they dont look white anymore. (ETA: I was too lazy to scroll back, so I quoted out of Z*G's post, but it was peajays I meant to quote.)
I don't like the tips to be really white, toning them down looks better I think...but it's a personal preference.
I recently did a colored tip and used OPI "Rosy Future" it looks more pink in the bottle than it is on, it's very sheer and ends up looking like a natural nail with a slight iridescent shine.
Probably the most common colors for French are OPI "Bubblebath" (a beige pink) & "Alpine Snow"
I don't do tips very often and I can never brush paint them on neatly especially with my left hand, so I use nail stamping if I do that. I brought the Konad ones, but there's lots of different brands out there. Plus the stamping goes over the top, so the white ends up on top of the other polish and stays really white, if that's the look you want. There are several different stamping brands around and lots of different French type tips but a plain one looks like this link and there's lots of youtube videos and instructions on websites.
