Are those your nails? You have such long nail beds! They are beautiful! In the first post they are my nails in the sense that is an actual photo of my hand taken this morning. The other two pictures in the next post are not mine though. I do have acrylic over the top of my real nails (but not false/plastic tips), so they aren't totally "natural". I have them refilled once a month. I can grow my nails long naturally, but I hate chipped and messy nail polish, a layer of acrylic means that the nail is harder and less flexible so that polish never chips. The long nails beds are just the good luck of genetics!

You do have beautiful nails. They grow amazingly well. They are long without being claws. They have great shape and the nail bed lets you have long without being too long.
I have great feet though! Sounds silly to brag about ones toes, but my toe shape is very nice in sandals!

Sole mate by Essie, which I got for £3 from ebay. It's a brilliant cheap dupe for Chanel Rouge Noir.

On my toes... Essie's WickedOn my nails... IBD's "I'm No Damsel" gel polish. Thanks to tinaev and one of the last threads, I got my first gel polish at the salon, loved it, and then bought all the stuff to do it myself. Love, love, love it!! Awesome! I'm so glad you went for it. I remember being so hesitant but the first time I did them myself I was hooked. I just love the durability and ease of use! I was hesitant because I was convinced that I would not be able to do it as well as the salon and end up having chips and such, but so far so good. It will take a little practice to know how to get the coats at the right thickness. But I want to practice with some other colors brands too so I just ordered a couple of Madam Glam colors because you mentioned liking that brand. The only thing I am not a fan of... removing the gel. LOL That took longer than painting them.

But I don't care, flip flops/sandals are so comfortable (especially with bunions) that I wear them until it's too cold.

I just saw on tv the other day that you could get cheap gloves, cut out just the fingernail part and not get as much of the UV rays. They also said you could use sunscreen, but I guess not on the nail itself? They didn't say. But I may have to try this!

How often do people see toes in a year though. I am thinking having nice fingernails is better than having great toes. I also have small feet so they look dainty (again I am bragging...but they are cute). Finding shoes to fit has always been a challenge, although it is better. Pretty fingers go a lot further!

I had the opportunity to buy a kit for $10 (thank you Krazy Koupon Lady) that had some polishes that I would not use, but had an LED light. I then bought the Gelish Basix kit from eBay and the color I wanted from either Amazon or eBay. I was able to get all in for about $50. Considering a gel manicure is ~$30 at the salon, it will pay for itself in a couple of manicures. I will say that personally I am not worried about UV exposure. I live in Texas and know I get much more exposure to UV rays in daily life that I do from 10 minutes of lamp exposure every couple of weeks. But that is just my thought.

I stink at ordering things online, but would love to buy something if I could get it at Ulta or another store. Sounds like a great kit!

LOL That took longer than painting them. Removal is annoying, yes. I ordered some Nail Mates and that makes removal easier and I can still use my hands pretty well while doing it. I buff my nails thoroughly, apply pure acetone to the Nail Mates pads and can get most of my soak offs done in about 15 minutes that way. I'm completely addicted to the Madam Glam polishes. They are the highest quality I've found out of the brands I've tried. I joined their monthly club where you pick three polishes/month for $29 with free shipping. I hope you like yours! I have never done gel polish put it looks so nice on others! I love how shiny it is. Do you use a UV light? That UV light would cure any polish, the LED is a little more picky but it's a lot faster. I live in sunny northern California and doing my nails is the least of my worry about uv rays. I would get about 10 minutes exposure from doing my nails every week or so. To me it's not a big deal.

So glad that the UV light is no big deal once a week. I keep reading about how dangerous it can be. But I also thought you aren't under it long. Glad that it is safe enough!

A real LED light produces little or no UV light so it's possibly less dangerous than a uv light. LED is much less than most other types of lights and less than sunlight.

Nothing now because 2 of my nails broke far down and so I had to trim the rest. Boo! That always happens to me, my nails never stay all the same length for some time.

pjaye, thank you so much for the suggestion to apply one coat of the pink first, and then do the tips and then another pink layer on top! It turned out so much better, I'm not perfect at the technique, but I'm pretty pleased with the results.

I have some houndstooth nail wraps on by Incoco. I love them. They are so much easier than jamberries to use. They last longer and wear better too.

Not every gel polish will cure under LEDs, it will usually state on the bottles of the polish if they are UV and LED compatible or not. It also depends on the wattage of the lamp you're using. I had a 9 watt LED lamp that I got for $10 that wouldn't cure anything. It simply wasn't strong enough. The one I use now is 24 watts and will cure any polish that says will cure under LED. But you still have to be careful. Gelish brand, for example takes 1 minute to cure under LEDs whereas IBD, Gelaze, and most other popular brands only require a 30 second exposure to the LEDs. Darker colors like reds, dark blues, and black are also notorious for not curing fully in LED lamps without going through a few cycles.

This is the lamp I bought: www.amazon.com/MelodySusie%C2%AE-Quality-Portable-Acrylic-Setting/dp/B00S81WTMA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1447823535&sr=8-2&keywords=melodysusie+led+light It works really good, and it's a better price than most of the LEDs I've seen for sale. I've never done French but if I were to do it I would use IBD Dockside Diva (my favorite nude) and ASP white from Sally's Beauty Supply. I don't know anything about the ASP brand but out of all the whites I have bought and discarded theirs is by far the best.

Nothing at the moment my nails were really suffering from something either the polish or the remover. I had to give them a rest. I wish I knew what had damaged them so badly. I was really enjoying polishing my nails did it all Summer long, changed maybe every 7-10 days, and in sept my nails were falling apart. I've never had that hapoen before. They are nearly grown back now but I'd like to protect them if only I knew hat did it. ( yes I wore a base coat, always ) This was me about a month and a half ago. I NEVER had problems with my nails peeling. The last couple years since I've been painting them regularly, it's been peel city. I tried muptiple brands of nail strengtheners, including 3 different versions of OPI's Nail Envy, Nail Tech's, Essie's, and none of it did any good. I can't remember who it was that posted it (I've been lurking for a LONG time, but this is the first time I'm posting), and I actually finally registered because I was going to post to thank whoever it was, but they're FINALLY better and not peeling and brittle like before. She posted that she didn't do the nail polish remover before painting, and actually linked to a blog that talked about oiling your nails. I decided it was worth a shot. For the last 3-4 manicures I've given myself, I've rubbed coconut oil and/or jojoba oil into each nail and cuticle. I've let it sit for about 5 minutes, and then wiped the excess clean. Then I've used Barielle Fortifying Nail Builder as a base coat and the rest as usual. It's been an absolute miracle. I didn't realize all those strengtheners had formaldehyde in them, and I think instead of helping my seriously dry nails, they were just exacerbating the situation. And it hasn't made them chip any faster. This week's lasted my usual 5ish days. The one I did last week lasted over a week. And I'm just using regular polish. Idk if it will work for you, but it's made a world of difference for me! Thanks again to the person that posted it and linked to that blog!!! free image hosting
