I went to buy an mp3 album at Amazon, and it's been months since I did, and they have some new software I need to upload, and I don't know how, and I don't understand how their music library works, and even when I do buy the music, I don't know how to play it on my phone, and I can't play it on my stereo or in my car because I can't figure out how to make it work, and every time I think I do have things figured out, they go and CHANGE or UPDATE it and then I have to learn all over again and I just want to grab all my CDs and go sit in a corner and hug them and pout and dream of the simpler days. I hate how everything is so damned complicated if you are not a computer whiz. I suck at technology. In my thirties I could still learn a little bit, but I'm 45 now and it's like my brain will not absorb anything new. I was looking at that Amazon Echo earlier tonight and it absolutely baffles me. There's no way I could use it. I feel frustrated just looking at it, because I can see how cool it could be for someone who has the intuition for it. I just thought I'd be a lot older than this before I started feeling obsolete.

Same. Luckily I have teen and were recently teen daughters. I just ask them to do it but I hate feeling incompetent over some technology. And I know just what you mean about finally figuring it out and then next time you go to use it it's changed again. Ugh.

do they even make mp3s anymore? I kid, I kid. I'm sorry you feel so lost. Maybe reach out to a friend who may be more tech savvy?

Oh honey you are still young...lol...at 67 I am lucky to find my teeth...bend over to tie my shoes and know where the light switch is....just to find out I have to take off those shoes and put on the jeans first now that the light is on...lol... I hate learning, or trying to learn new tech. stuff and then like you said they update and you have to learn all over again. I have never learned to post a picture because of that. I liked it better when my camera was film not these digital ones...I have so many pics that need printed out and the film reminded me of it. Hate standing in a store to edit and print. I need my son to help me with it...here have a hug, cause I can still do that at least...

I walked into Best Buy a few months ago and asked to buy a Bluetooth mouse for my laptop. Apparently that's not a thing anymore. Mice come with a USB dongle now. I'm also still befuddled by the "new" iTunes, that's been out for a year or two now.
I used to be fairly tech savvy.

I sincerely believe the younger generation just comes up with names for things to confuse us! LOL A dongle? I'm was still trying to wrap my head around what the heck the cloud was until a very young tech guy at work told me - Just think of it as a server in a location unknown to you - well hell why didn't they just say that to begin with! Marketing has and always will be geared toward the younger more savvy that new more mind stimulation to think something is new! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Yep, I can sure relate, and I'll be 64 this month. I'm not totally tech challenged, and I can muddle my way through some stuff, but gosh there's a bunch of it that I don't "get" and really have no desire to. Remember, I'm from the generation that thought 8 track tapes were da bomb!!!!!

Flash memory: As I read your post, I had this memory of driving down the road in the back of a truck with my friend and her father blasting Lynyrd Skynyrd so proud of his new 8 track player...(okay, I get that sounds a whole lot more backwoods country than it really was...LOL)

Yep, I'm right there with you (except I'm older than you are). What saves me are my kids (ages 24 and 20 now). Even though they're at school most of the year I can still text them (one thing I'm really good at, lol) to ask questions. Right before my son left in August he and dh watched an old movie we have in video cassette form. Yes, we still have a vcr. So they watched it, then he left. Then a few weeks later dh and I wanted to watch a dvd. Um... hmm.... er.... How to switch all the machines/cords from vcr to dvd? Yes, I had to text him to ask. He said "Mom, look on the back of the vcr, see those cords? Switch them to the back of the dvd player." I said "how do I know which cord goes where?" He replied "Mom... do you see that the cords are different colors? and do you see that the holes in the back of the dvd player are colored?" hahahaha at me. oy... And before my dd left she wrote out step-by-step instructions on how to switch the TV from tv-mode to dvd mode, and how to start the dvd, etc. Yeah, old it is. This is one of the main reasons why I use Apple products -- the lovely folks at the Genius Bar and at the "open question" sessions at the Apple store. I used to own a Dell, but when I had to call customer "support" I'd get India, and some guy reading from a script who had no ability to talk in words I could understand (both accent and content). Now I just go over to the Apple store and say "help" and they do.

At work, I tell my millennials, this is what happens when you give technology to old people!
Luckily our DD is willing to be our tech support.

Ben got me an Amazon Fire Stick, but I've yet to successfully use it on my own. Keying in email and password info using a TV remote is more painstaking than it's worth to me.

I can't do anything on the computer. But I think for me, it's not age it's just I am clueless with technology! But even when I was a teen, I wouldn't have been any better probably! But the good thing is I never order anything online. If there is something I can't find anywhere (I will drive 2 hrs. to a store to avoid the computer) then I get my husband to order it for me. I am also cheap, and hate to pay high shipping costs!
But my daughters are tech experts, so they are a great source of help!
I have a cell phone (Samsung Galaxy 4) but hardly ever use it. I do keep it on and even take it with me now because I have a freshman in college, and she is so busy that when she gets a chance to text, I try to answer right away when she isn't in class or study group or socializing.

I order everything from there, it arrives in two days (sometimes one), and I don't have to go to stores. If I could just figure out how to order all my groceries online I'd do that too. lol

I'm the same. Dh is better than me mainly because he's doggedly determined to figure stuff out whereas I just submit to the inevitable and ask him/DDs/SIL to help me. I feel bad doing that but seriously life is too short!!

I feel your pain! It's the same here. All I need is step by step, 1. 2. 3. Instructions for how to work things. Is that so hard? I have numerous gadgets and appliances that are not being used to their full extent because I get so far with the manual then lose the will to live.
The worst for me is going wrong somewhere and not knowing what I did or how to put it right. That is so frustrating.

Don't feel bad. My 28-year-old daughter was just bemoaning the fact that iPods are no longer made. She liked just have a set amount of music in one place, rather than having the world at her disposal with iTunes.

Not even 40, and I'm feeling you. I get irrationally upset with technology (anything that plugs in or runs on a battery) when it doesn't work. My poor mom will read something off to me that her tablet is telling her, and I'm like- go ask my DH. I have no idea what you're saying. Especially if it's not {my} type of device. I just don't get it. I'm clueless. It's a foreign language to me- and I recognize that much of this is the lack of interest I have in technology as a whole.
I secretly plot ways I can grow older and rely on technology less. Otherwise, I know I'll have to rely on my kids more and more as technology advances more and more quickly. I don't want them to resent me for "not getting it" and asking dumb questions.
However- I am the QUEEN of the technology work-around! When my electronics don't work, I don't even waste my time fuming and trying to get it to work. I just come up with another way- because there IS another way. When our internet goes down at work, I'm the one they want to be there- because I'm the only one who can do everything old-school, and get it right, every time.

I wish you were my neighbor, I would ask you to train me on Amazon! Is Amazon Prime where you pay a fee for free shipping/fast delivery? I think the fee wouldn't be worth it for us because we don't order much online. But I did have to order The Middle Season 6 dvd on amazon last week because I called every local store and found the release was online only. Now if I could avoid the grocery store, it may be worth it for me to learn how to order online!

I'm not particularly tech-challenged, but I LOATHE i-tunes. I haven't used it in a few years because I hate it so much.
They don't make ipods anymore? That sucks, because I was just thinking I'd like to get a new one. Mine is really ancient and I'm not about to kill it trying to upgrade (not that it could anymore, anyway).
I am one of those weird people that doesn't want her music on her phone, so I like having the ipod separate. I usually get DD to do anything itunes related for me because it's just so frustrating. Every update made it worse and worse for me.
A 21 year old called me ma'am. Now THAT makes me feel old. Little fucker.

Not sure why I don't want it on my phone, because my dd tells me I'd like that better. lol. She says "Mom! Why do you want to carry around two things??" I tell her that I'm *not* carrying around two things because the only time I listen to my iPod is when I'm exercising and my phone is sitting in my bag that's right next to me (at the gym) or it's at home (when I'm walking the dog). She said "MOM! You don't take your phone with you when you walk Simba???" hahahaha Maybe she's right on that one, but I usually don't. I love to go to local stores but I am not a mall fan. I also thought it wouldn't be worth it. But I have learned better. lol. We order everything from Amazon. Not only does it save wear and tear on the car, and gas, but it also saves me whatever other impulse purchases I'd make at whatever store I had to go to. Also it saves me from having to drive to five different stores -- for instance, recently I've ordered a wall clock, a book, a reflective vest to wear walking the dog in the dark, an Advent calendar for dd, and coconut water for my mother who can't get to the store. Every one of those things comes from a different store, plus the Advent calendar is shipped directly to dd, and the coconut water goes directly to my mother. If I bought those things here then I'd have to get to the post office and pay for shipping. And, don't forget the video streaming benefits, the music, and the free or inexpensive kindle books. Amazon Prime

Quickest way to get me to buy something is to tell me it's limited edition or discontinued. LOL

My husband and son have been playing a computer game, and my son said, "Dad, do you want me to hook up Skype for you so we can talk to each other when we play?" My husband said, "No, I don't want it." I knew what he was really saying is, "I won't know how to use it," so I told my son to go set it up and show him how and last night I could hear them laughing and talking together on Skype.
The truly funny thing about this is they were in different rooms! They could have just talked to each other. Gone are the days when you actually played a game in the same room, lol!

My mother is 90 years old and got an iphone this year and uses the computer.
She has a lot of trouble constantly adapting to all the changes, but I am in awe of her. Truly.
She can't open a damn thing any more, though. All that plastic everything is sealed in is REALLY hard to get into and frustrates her more than anything else.
FWIW, I hate updates too.

For the most part, I can still manage most technology. I just find the world moves so much faster now and I'm losing the will and stamina to keep up. I recently had to have my nephew help me with my phone. I saw the look of pity he gave me.
