We took the kids to see Mockingjay last night. The movie was full but we were (thankfully) all in the same row. DH and I were on the end, two guys on a date were next to me (they were so fun) and then my kids were on the other side of them. We were about1/3 of the way back from the screen and it was at our local movie barn in the middle of nowhere ($4 movies all the time)
A bit after the movie started someone came into the theater. I heard the door shut and footsteps and my heart got a little jittery. I had to turn around to see what it was and then I continued to check everytime someone walked in.
We go to the movies often and I was just at the movies 2 weeks ago in Columbus at a real theater and I wasn't nervous at all. I don't know what the deal was last night.
I didn't think much about it until we got in the car and my dh said "Wow, I was really caught off guard by how nervous I was when people were walking in and out of the theater"
I guess we might should make a point to watch less of the news, I wonder how much anxiety med prescriptions have gone up recently.

I'm not surprised, given what has happened in the past. I would be edgy too.

I feel the same way. I get nervous seeing one man alone in the theater (meaning he comes in alone and sits by himself). Stupid and irrational on my part. Why can't someone go to the movies alone? People do it all the time.

People do it all the time. My friend is a personal trainer so he works from 5am-9am, lunchtime, and 5-8pm. So he has a lot of free time during the day and goes and sees every movie that comes out alone since the gym is next to the movie theater.

I have noticed that I am much more aware of where the exits are than I ever was before. I also try not to bring too much in with me so if I have to run I can just leave whatever I have behind.

When I went to a movie a few months ago, a guy in dark clothes and a baseball cap came in 3/4 of the way through the movie and sat down directly in front of me. It made me nervous enough that I thought about changing seats. He only stayed a few minutes then left. I felt silly for being nervous, but my fears were reaffirmed when there was a theater shooting in Louisiana later that week.

Love that you have a local movie barn. Growing up, our small town had something similar.

Sorry you were feeling nervous. DH and I go to a matinee every Tuesday and I can honestly say I've never been nervous.

I find myself being nervous about things too. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and am jittery about the bridges here. Really thinking twice about going to some large events coming up, such as some of the Christmas programs at the San Francisco Symphony. Movies make me nervous too. I so do not want to live in fear but these are very challenging days alright.

Did you read about the over reaction at a movie theater in NJ this weekend? Someone jumped over a chair and that made a loud noise. They evacuated the theater because of the noise. Theater evacuatedWe went to see Mockingjay yesterday morning. Theater was nice and quiet with those new lounging seats and it was half price too!

hmmm-- I can't say I've ever been overly nervous at the movie theater. We saw Spectre yesterday, and people walked in and out a number of times (the movie was 2 1/2 hrs long) and it never phased me.
eta: my BF also concealed carries alot of the time when we're out, but I never really think about that, either-- that doesn't really factor into my ease or unease.

Had the SAME feeling today. We were in a movie theater, not many in our particular movie. Twice, an hour apart an employee walks in front and goes to the outside exit door and checks it. Unnerving! I hate to admit that on our way home Dh said he was carrying a concealed weapon and I was happy he did.

I completely understand. My DS18 is an assistant manager for Cinemark. I pray every day that he goes to work. He did tell me that Cinemark goes over the procedures for when there is criminal activity or terrorist activity in the building.

My dd and her friends and one mom went opening night to Mockingjay. I didnt want to be, but I was a wreck until she got home. It's it sad we can not enjoy silly little things like a movie anymore without worrying if something bad is going to happen.

Some time after the Colorado shooting we attended a movie when the power went out with no announcement from management or emergency lighting. My friend, myself and my young son had the same thoughts. While I stayed with the kids, my friend started to walk to the front office and no one was around. She started to act cautiously. It was a tad stressful.
I wrote a letter to the theater about how they handled the outage.

I've been to the movies twice in the last couple of months. I definitely changed where I typically sit and kept my eye on the exit door. That's sad how it's changed. I guess I changed my habits after 9/11 so this shouldn't be that much different. Just sad though.

Also had these types of thoughts/feelings in Mockingjay last night...and I was viewing at a theatre on an army base.

We had this conversation last night at sister-in-law's dinner table. Her youngest two are dating age teenagers and she has laid on the line that movie theaters are out for them. She doesn't feel comfortable anymore with them. I think it is still raw for her, she lives near Lafayette, LA where the recent theater shootings occurred. Open spaces in cities, and crowded spaces in cities, places you feel you should be able to go and enjoyed, all get tainted with this crap. I haven't been in a while, but I get how you feel.

Thoughts crossed my mind yesterday while I was in the theater about what we would do, and I couldn't help but jump a little every time someone walked in or out. I even had the thought that we needed a plan in case something happened, because our youngest was sitting between us but our oldest was a few seats down with his friend.

Yesterday in church my adult daughter was nervous the whole service. After church I showed her that between us and the doors were at least 10 people with conceal carry. That made her feel a lot better.

Add me to the club. Didn't help we had an armed police officer (not mall cop) checking bags and patrolling. I guess that should've made me feel safer but it scared me more that our theater felt that they could be a target.
It didn't help that Mockingjay is a bunch of shooting and blowing crap up, lol.

Yesterday in church my adult daughter was nervous the whole service. After church I showed her that between us and the doors were at least 10 people with conceal carry. That made her feel a lot better. Our church isn't large, but we have several members who are discreetly on a Security team. There's always one present at every service/VBS/event we have. Some people don't like it, most are unaware the group even exists, it's never talked about. I know because we're friends with several of them.

My DH is ex-military and has always been cautious in the 26 years we have been together. Checks exits, won't sit with his back to the door kind of stuff. He also carries concealed and it makes me feel somewhat safer. I hate that that we have to be this way now days with all the shootings and crime ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/angry.jpg.gif)

I try not to think about it too much, but I also find myself really checking out people when we are at the movies. It's sad, but unfortunately worrisome.

We went to the movies the night of the Paris shootings to see Peanuts. I was nervous, I admit. Once we got in the theatre I did relax but I hate that it even crosses my mind.
Its a whole new world.
