It's been two months now that I hurt my elbow/arm/shoulder by being too aggressive with the hedge trimmers.
Dude, I've read online about how long this takes to heal, but what. the. hell. I still can't grip stuff. It wakes me up at night if I move wrong and it hurts like crap! Last night I was almost in tears, it was just. hurting. I was just laying in bed in a normal position and it HURT. Should I go to the doctor about it? DH did this a few years ago and I remember him asking me to rub his elbow a few times, and he said it took a couple months to go away. He doesn't think I should go. But this isn't' going away and last night SUCKED. Am I that much of a pansy?
Anyone have experience with this, and can you give me some suggestions to relieve the pain? I've even looked up youtube vids for pt type excercises. They hurt like a B&^% and haven't helped.

Tendinitis is horrible! I have had it in shoulder, elbow and foot. None goes way quickly. My best advice is to see a doctor and get PT evaluation. Therapists know more about what works and how long it takes to get better. In the mean time - ice and rest. Good luck!

are you SURE it is tendinitis? If you have insurance I do not see why NOT go to the doctor. Atleast you know for sure and he might give you some exercises. Or a cortisone shot or something! at least pain relievers.

If it's tendinitis, boy, do I feel for you. I know the feeling of just sitting there crying from the pain. It can be agonizing. Yup, I've actually had it in my wrists. I was on a plane one time and sat next to a nurse. She told me she felt bad for me, I would have been better off pain-wise, if they had been broken. I couldn't even open a package of crackers.
I have had recurrences over the years, mainly in my right wrist from using a mouse. Getting an ergonomic mouse saved me.
I agree, physical therapy is the ONLY way to get pain relief. Those PT people really know their stuff. Every once in awhile I'll get a twinge, but just working with the balls of clay (?) kind of a silly-putty type substance in my hands (think stress ball), calms it right down for the wrists.
I don't know what they would do for the elbow/arm/shoulder, but get thee to a doctor and get a referral for PT ASAP.

I have tendonitis so chronically that they call it tendonosis, and it is my Achilles Tendon! Both heels. Definitely get to a doctor for help, which will probably be in the form of a cortisone shot and/or PT.

I've only ever been told to rest my wrist when I had tendonitis but mine wasn't perhaps as severe as yours.

I have tendonitis in my wrist from tennis and my doctor told me that ice, ibuprofen and rest was pretty much all I could do.

I've had it on and off for years in my wrist. YEARS. I knit so it really sucks. But the only thing you can really do is rest it. Don't push it.
I wear a wrist splint when mine acts up. It basically forces me to rest my wrist. That's the only thing that has consistently helped. At the first tingle, I put it on and the symptoms go away in a few days. If I ignore the first signs and try to push through the pain, or suck it up, it could be hurting for weeks.
So be patient. Rest it. Good luck!

I'm on week 13 of an elbow injury. They are saying tendinitis is what it causing my pain. I've had a cortisone shot in my elbow and shoulder. I've been going to chiropractor the whole time as well. I start physical therapy on Friday. I really hope it helps.
Rest really isn't an option for me. I'm a single mom and business owner so home and work stops when I stop.

I have tennis elbow. Currently going to physical therapy a couple times a week. It's helping but it is a slow process.
I did get a cortisone shot, and it did help for a while.
Also, wear a wrist splint at night ... that has helped a lot.

I've had it in my wrists, the TOPS of my feet, and in my shoulders. With my feet, I pretty much hobbled around for months. The shoulders were realty the worst for me because it hurt to lay down so I couldn't sleep. I did PT for my shoulders but it didn't help much. Ice and rest were the main things. It really does have to just run it's course.

I have arthritis in my shoulders, I know it's not the same but it feels the same to me. Ice, gentle stretches and an anti-inflammatory(I use a generic aleve) help a lot more than you'd think.
You have to make sure you are consistent with all of it.

Tendonitis takes forever to heal. It's got to have complete rest. I'd go see a doc to confirm.

I've had it for over a year. I refused to talk to the doctor about it until 3 months ago. I've had two shots that proved to be ineffective. I went to PT for over 6 weeks without any improvement. My doctor ordered an MRI and it turns out I have a slight partial tear. Not sure of the next step but I see an ortho next week. My advise is to go to the doctor!!! There's no reason for you to stay in pain that may or may not go away. I thought mine would go away on it's own but it didn't.

I have it recur every couple years. i used to be a professional photographer and the heavy lenses made it worse.
It takes forever to get better, and you are at risk of it coming back.
I pretty much taught myself to do most things with my left hand to give my right arm a break. I also gave up shooting for several months, except for weddings I had already contacted for.
The last recurrence was 2 years ago, and I still actively work at avoiding another. If my left arm can do something, I use that. I use it for driving, cleaning, and especially any move that requires squeezing and pulling. Unfortunately, I am terrible at using lefty for scissors, writing, and using a camera. I make it a point to stop frequently when I am doing something that uses my right hand/arm. It slows me down, I used to be super fast, but no more, it's not worth it. Take frequent breaks. But so far, as long as I am careful, I'm ok.
I'm always in fear of another recurrence.
I hope your pain goes away.
A PT may be able to teach you how to avoid it happening again.
