While getting my pecan pie put together I noticed the bottle of dark corn syrup has a *window* to show you where the 1 cup mark is! How did I never see this?? I no longer have to pour it into a measuring cup and then work to get it all in the bowl! What have you discovered?

I saw it yesterday, as well - but I'd already used one cup from the bottle! sigh.

I learned that when you are already full that the piece of pie with whipped cream will actually make your stomach hurt. I learned that when all of us sisters and mothers are in the kitchen, it doesn't matter how thin or heavy you are, you will keep bumping butts and accidentally grabbing boobs when you meant to grab a spoon because there just isn't enough room for all of us-but we keep trying and laughing. I learned that no matter what you do, you always end up waiting for the damn rolls to get done when everything else is ready, and then when they are finally done, someone is in the bathroom and you have to wait longer to eat. I learned that when the chips are down, my family is the kind that circles the wagons and puts the world on notice that WE ARE FAMILY. Okay, and I learned how to make fried polenta. I am a very happy girl. Happy with a stomach ache.

Be back in an hour or so with my stomach ache.

I learned that my 8 yo was bit by the cooking bug. She helped with the stuffing last night, stuffed mushrooms today, plus stuffed some celery and asked about a million questions about how hot, what ingredients we needed and wanted to prepare desserts. So cute. Bonus, she set the table.

Well, it's not exactly fun, but we learned if the absent-minded 14 y/o son has to run back into the house because he forgot his phone, he will leave the door wide open while the whole family is gone for a few hours. Nice. At that age it's like all the energy goes to that massive hormone production (he's grown almost 2 inches in about as many months) and nothing seems to be powering the brain currently. Good thing he's cute.

Good thing he's cute. That was totally me today. We got the car all packed up and ready to go to my mom's, got about a block down the street and had to go back because I forgot to turn off the oven. Got back in the car with the oven safely off, got about block down the road and had to go back because I forgot my coffee. Got back in the car with my coffee, got a block down the road and had to go back because I forgot to close up the house. FINALLY got my shit together and was able to get to my mom's house. I couldn't even blame the cute teenager in my house-he was the one driving and laughing hysterically at me.

I discovered that after a couple of glasses of wine my sister and I are hilariously funny. We are 8 years apart in age but very close. We had so much fun today to the amusement of other family members.

I learned that if you're going to up the amount of apples you put in your pie, you need to increase the cooking time by way more than 10 mins. Good news though? Suzanne's crust recipe was kick ass and was the best part of the pie!!

I learned that a holiday ending without drama is a once in a lifetime, unicorn sighting sort of thing!

I learned that holidays don't hold the same priority level for some people in my family as they do for me. I learned to accept that and recognize that the ones that show up are the ones that matter and the others are the ones that are missing out. We truly have amazing people in our lives.
I was also reminded that my dh and I make a hell of a team. We did a full dinner together and it was pretty amazing, definitely the best we've ever had.
He made me fluttery when he stood behind me and said 'my entire I wished I had a real family that liked each other and a house where people could walk in and feel love. I just realized I got it the day I met you. You make the happy consume our entire home" I learned that he's super sweet...and probably trying to get laid.

From everything you have shared lately we know he is a keeper. You may be right to but nothing wrong with that either.

My brother has an exchange student from China. I learned that he can beat my fanny at Blokus. He's wanting to be an engineer. Go figure.
I also had reinforced that my town is pretty awesome. There were four homes on fire today, three are total losses. The winds just spread the fire. The American Legion brought food from their holiday dinner and neighbors made it into sandwiches for the firefighters. Community at its core. No one was injured, thankfully.

I learned never to drive across town with a potful of turkey stock held by your mom. It sloshed all over her and her new pants. I had to stop and pour half of it out on side of road. I was waiting until I got to my aunt's house to make the gravy. Stains did not come out of pants, so guess who's going out on Black Friday to replace those pants???
