I had them start with the kid-friendly box. Definitely one-sided, multiple ornaments on one branch, etc... I know last year I wound up "re-decorating" and they did not notice. Do you think they will notice this year? We have a small tree, so I'm thinking about decorating another outside tree, but I don't think I have outdoor friendly ornaments... Oh the drama... so cute....It was so endearing to see them pulling out the ornaments. I love Christmas time!

Need a photo! There was a commercial I just saw last night that had this woman who was "letting" her little ones decorate the tree. But she kept correcting them and moving ornaments. Then Dad comes home and she let's the kids take credit. It was so representative of a lot of people I am sure.

I want a photo too! I spent a total of 16 years with a child-decorated (mainly hand made ornaments) tree, so last year I bought a ton of new decorations and did the tree the way *I* wanted to. This year my 11yo son has insisted on decorating the tree how he wants to. Oh well, I have the rest of my life to have a classy tree. I probably wouldn't redecorate, maybe just "redistribute" a few ornaments if the top branches are looking a bit bare. Or miraculously find some extra tinsel and ask them if they can see any bare branches where they think it should go. That way they will feel as though they are still in charge!

I had a seven year old help decorate my tree. It's bit heavy on ornaments on the bottom of one side, but they are the ones she liked and likes to sit on the floor looking at them when she is here. Doesn't bother me. I'll leave it so she can enjoy them.
I always let the kids decorate the tree when they were old enough and then the grandchildren. As long as there aren't big bare spots I'm good with it.

My boys still hang all the ornaments on our big tree - and most of them are ornaments with their names, ages, etc on them. I love having kid stuff on my tree. Time goes so fast!

My kids decorated the lowest part of the tree. Some branches are loaded with ornaments but I don't care. I love it. I waited a long time to have my babies be big enough to want to help and I don't want to squash that behavior by rearranging everything. I like it their way. It's just more fun-proof that there are littles in this house and they are excited for Christmas.

My 6 yr old put most of our ornaments on. Surprisingly it is the bottom of the tree that is kind of bare. I'll move a few ornaments down over the next couple weeks. I will not change much though because DD will notice. For me the tree isn't supposed to be perfect. Decorating it should be a happy moment and memory for my child.

I guess I'm the only idiot that did this, but I never let my kids just decorate the tree kid-style, and then go back and fix it later. Instead, I tried to teach them how to decorate a tree. I know there isn't a right or wrong way, but I mentioned things like, larger ornaments on bottom branches, unbreakable stuff at the very bottom because of the cat, space out ornaments that are part of a set, one ornament on a branch, etc. I'd hold them up so they could reach to put an ornament on a higher branch. Obviously, most of this escaped them when they were really small, but we'd go through the same routine every year and as they got older, they were very good at decorating the tree.

We have a cat too and I did explain to my 6 year old that we should put unbreakable ornaments at the bottom in case kitty bumped some off or decided to play with them. She understood that & moved some around for safety.
