I want to make the Santa Hat mix this year. I have all the ingredients for the Santa Hats and would like to have those made ahead of time and assemble the mix closer to when I want to package it up to share.... How far ahead do you think I could make the hats? I am using a caramel Bugel. It will be completely dipped in the red candy coating. I will be using the mini dehydrated marshmallows for the tops (not a regular mini- but a dehydrated one - like you get in the hot chocolate packs). If I started making the hats this weekend, and stored them in a zippered bag with most of the air smooshed out, inside of a sealed container and stored in a cool room, do you think it is too early? I plan on using them and making the mix closer to Christmas. I have so much baking to do, along with a few other big activities. I though it would make life easier to have these done up ahead of time... So - what do you guys think? Too soon? Or go for it? cookiesandcups.com/santa-party-mix/

I must make those. I would use a regular mini marshmallow. Spoken from experience, if you use the mini marshmallows, it will suck the moisture out of the things that should be hard. LOL I made a valentine's day mix once and used cupcake goldfish, chex mix, pretzels and a few other things including the marshmallows. It made all the "snappy" foods soft and squishy and the marshmallows got hard as a rock. LOL OP - honestly, that's not something I would make and let sit around more than a couple of days. Cookies, yes. A mix like that? Nope.

I am not going to make the mix until right before I need it... I was wondering if I could make the dipped Santa hats ahead of time....

If I had to I'd make it ahead and freeze the hats, but something like this if it's really important i do a test batch and freeze it and defrost some a week later and try them. Then I'm prepared to have to remake if necessary. Good luck
