We did a memorial service for my dad at his favorite home town park. Over 200 people came to celebrate. We strung up tons of pictures with twine/clothespins. We had great food and drink. I heard some great stories. Everyone said it was a great celebration and the best "funeral" ever. No somberness, etc. just good laughter, tears and toasts. We spread his ashes at some of his favorite places. We also had a nice distraction and something to focus on- as an ending to our "little miss sunshine" story, my niece competed in our local county fair beauty pageant. The whole family helped her prepare. She didn't win, but we had a lot of fun. We'll miss you, but what a way to go out with a bang. Love you.

Sounds like a wonderful day. The kind of day, I'm sure, your dad would have wanted. (((hugs)))

That's great! I've been surprised at the laughter that I've experienced at funeral gatherings. Seeing folks you haven't seen in ages, reminiscing... a good way to share the moment and remember.
