Third option: auntie (an-tee) anxious when referring to specific aunts in the anxious family

I say both. Dad's family is from New England, so "Ahnt" for them. I was told by my "Ahnt" she was not a bug crawling on the ground. my mom is from Midwest, so "ant" unless I want to be called a snob.
I live in Midwest now and I find myself switching between the two.

I have lived here so long that all of my nieces and nephews call me Ahnt except the ones that live in Florida who call me Ant.

I say ant. However whenever I refer to myself as "ant compeateropeator", my 5 year old niece always takes great pleasure in informing me that I am wrong and it is "ahnt compeateropeator". Eta: I am from New England but have always said "ant".

I say "ant."
Here in the south, there's also another variation more like "unt." It's a little more guttural sounding.

Born and bred in the South. I say "ain't". We all do in my family. Unfortunately, I only have one aunt left.

I guess I say it both ways. If I say it with her name, it's Ant. Otherwise, it's Ahnt.
ex - I could tell you lots of stories about my Ahnt and Uncle, but I haven't seen Ant Ethyl in a very long time.

We say Ant. Actually for the older Aunts it is Auntie. But my younger nieces don't use Auntie for me. I kind of wish they would.

LOL! I read it as being the insect ant until I started reading the replies.
Insect = ant
Aunt = ahnt

Definitely "Ant" or "Antie" ... the "u" is useless

I say "Ant".
My 13 year old DD has some friends who use the "ahnt" pronunciation, though, and I have noticed her saying it that way as well. It's cute.

We say "ant". Ahnt just sounds so stuffy and hoity-toity to me.
I would compare it to saying Mom or Mother. In casual conversation I wouldn't say, "Mother, would you like to make Christmas candy?" I would say "mom".
Mother and Ahnt just sound proper and in general conversation it just doesn't work for me.

I grew up saying aunt (ahnt). My husband's family says "ant."
My mom always said "An ant crawls on the floor. The sister of one of your parents is your aunt."

My nieces call me Tante. It goes well with my first name I've always said Ant, with the exception of one great aunt who was always Tante.

In Standard Scots, 'ant' and 'aunt' are both pronounced the same, with the /a/ sound at the front of the mouth. I answered 'other'!

Born and raised in the South and it's Ant for us. But we are known for saying things completely different than they are spelled.

Same here, we kind of use them interchangeably. I have two sisters, one that lives here that we never see and one that lives out of state that we FaceTime, etc. frequently. The one we FaceTime with is called Moomah (pet name assigned by my sister's grandkid when she was little, and my kid picked up on it and it stuck) and my other sister is rarely referenced but when we do we call her "Antie". When talking to our DD, DH refers to his sister (and many of our non-related female friends our age) as "Ahntie" so and so.

Born and reared in Arkansas so "ant", but have lived in the land of "ahnt" so long that sometimes that pronunciation slips out.

Mostly I have ANTS and am an ANT. DH has Ahnts, so we say it that way when referring to his Ahnts.

My DH's Family is Indian so any woman you are acquainted with is called Auntie it seems. (Ahnt)
I didn't call my aunts anything but their name but I think most of my family says "Ant"

Ant because I don't live anywhere near New England. If you are one of my nieces or nephews you don't use either.
