I think there should be a special place in hell for people that steal presents from under the Christmas Tree. I am so sorry.

Somebody stole some valuable items out of my shop this summer. I figured it was an ex employee, someone who knew XH was in prison, and what was valuable in there.
But during my garage sale, some neighbors mentioned that they had also been burglarized, so maybe it was someone in the neighborhood who just watched to see when owners were gone. This was out in the country.
Anyway, I'm so sorry, and it's true, you need to be aware they might try to come back.

I am so sorry. I am glad you weren't home! And I am shocked, mad & saddened that so many of the Peas have this experience.

Oh no! I am so sorry. There's been a lot of that going on around here, and it pisses me off too. Why do people feel they have the right to do something like that?? I hope it doesn't totally ruin your holiday and that you can replace the stolen items.

I am so sorry.
(((hugs)))
And although it is horrible, may I just say my first thought was..... At least they didn't get you. Thank God her son was safe. They didn't even hurt her dog.
Things will be replaced with other things. You & your family are priceless. Thank God they only got your things.
((hugs))

Ugh, I'm sorry!!! That is just awful. My apartment was broken into & robbed (I didn't have much worth stealing - they got my jewelry box, a shitty DVD player, and a... Dustbuster!!) 11 years ago and it still makes me feel sick thinking about what it was like when we realized what had happened and what the next few weeks were like in terms of fear.
And what a time of year for it to happen - that just sucks so much. I hope your insurance company is speedy in helping you replace items, and if you are feeling traumatized by it (which would be very normal), I would definitely recommend seeing if your insurance (health) or employer (employee assistance plan) covers a few sessions with a counselor to help process it.

Peal I am so glad you weren't harmed. I feel your pain, we had our home burglarized a long time ago. It was horrible. lurkingsince2001 The police told us they might return for our new items, too. We had a security system installed. I'll never be without one again. I am thinking about installing motion lights in our backyard, because it is so dark back there.

Thank you all for your kind words. The morning isn't feeling a lot better. My boss is being great and letting me take whatever time I need to deal with everything. And I work for the company that handles our finances so they are doing all the leg work on putting alerts on our accounts for me.
My dog is a sweetheart of a dog and I'm not surprised they weren't scared of her, she's a lab/boxer mix, she's looks scary, but isn't. I did figure out they found our stash of rawhide bones and gave her one to win her over a little bit.
The gifts they stole were small and inconsequential, my computer I'm very upset about because of all the lost information. My oldest DS is going to work up a system that will, in the future, lock down our computers like fort knox, but this time it's too late.
Our neighborhood has been having a crime spree so I'm not surprised we were hit, but there is only so much you can do to protect yourself, thieves will find a way. I haven't spoken with my insurance company yet because when I called last night their systems were all down. Hopefully today I will have answers. In the meantime DS and I made it really hard to gain entry to the house again and the neighbors are all on alert. And my Dh will be here on Friday. That will help us all feel better the most.
Again, thank you for being so kind, and I'm so sorry to those who have also had to deal with it. The emotional toll is tough.

I am so sorry! That's horrible and I too would feel very violated. Why would somebody think they are justified to go into somebody else's house and take their things? I just don't get it.

I'm so sorry! My car was broken into last summer - I know it's not the same as your personal belongings being plundered through, but I do get your anger. I didn't lose anything of real value, other than peace of mind. There were several neighbors on our street who were broken into the same night - no one was caught and nothing was recovered. It's maddening. I can't stand that someone feel that it's ok for them to take the things I work so hard to have.
One of my daughters best friends house was broken into 2 or 3 years ago a week before Christmas. All of the presents under the tree were taken, their TV, computers, DVD players etc. The only good thing was that she had the larger 'santa' gifts hidden in her room for Christmas day and they didn't find those. Insurance covered her losses, but because it was so close to Christmas she didn't receive the funds until a few weeks after. As a single mom of two, she just didn't have the money to replace her kids gifts that were stolen until that money came in. She was so sad and frustrated.
Again, I'm sorry this happened. I hope you can get some of your things recovered.

I am soooo very sorry. I understand what you are going through. My lab didn't scare them off, but scared her! It was a two hour time frame. Only one real valuable item was stolen, and at that not a real big deal. No jewelry, just old cell phones, cameras(with cards) and the wii. DH and kids were two hours away. Kids left for the weekend, we sent the dog away for a week. She was a nervous wreck, more than us. It is the worst feeling, knowing someone was in the home without us. B ut we learned not to do certain things, and hope it will never happen again. Can you share what you learned? I have never had a house broken into and wonder if I am accidentally doing things that I shouldn't. We live in country, houses around us, no trees. Others are hidden by trees and were unlocked. Why us??? We don't leave camera chips in cameras. The cards are stored in different room than camera. We now have all electronic serial numbers on file. Didn't before, but we do not announce when we aren't home.(FB) We let a neighbor know when we are gone. Purchased new locks. And we don't keep mess in bathroom. They searched the drawers, didn't keep them in there anyway, just good to know. I also hide my jewelry. Day to day stuff is out, but anything expensive is hidden.

That is awful! I am so sorry this happened to you.
I don't know if this will help, but if you bought your gifts using certain credit cards, like gold Visas, you may be able to get reimbursed for the times that were stolen, if you don't want to make a claim against your homeowner's insurance.
Again, I am so sorry this happened to you and your son.

Another pea offering sympathy. I can't even imagine how horrible this was but did remind me of when I was growing up and my bff who lived across the street was robbed the day after Christmas. The thieves had a moving van and proceeded to go and rob all the 2 story homes. The scoped everyone of those houses out ahead of time. They figured it was safer because everyone slept upstairs, what they didn't anticipate is in one of the two stories that they hadn't yet hit was a young teenage boy who got up at 4 am for his paper route delivery and saw them. The people got away but the boy had good descriptions of them and they found them a week to two later eating at McDonalds, most of the stuff was gone (Jewelry, Furs, etc..pre electronic days)but did get a few things back. They pawn them for quick sell.
I am glad no one in your house was hurt and hopefully good blessings will be coming for you this Christmas and in the New Year.
