I am so sorry for you and your family. There have been a rash of stolen packages in my neighborhood and I often wonder what these thieves are thinking as they sit there Christmas morning and proudly hand out someone else's gifts.

I've been robbed twice. Beyond the anger of having your things taken, the sense of being violated is worse. It never really leaves you.
I'm so very sorry this happened to you.

I am so very sorry this happened. I am very happy that no one was hurt.
There was a pea (sorry I can't remember who exactly, I'm rubbish with names) who was beaten viciously when burglars burst into her house one night, breaking down the door and stealing her stuff while one of the men kept hitting her. She was ok in the end, but I remember how horrible the whole experience was for her.
The fact that the burglar raided your rawhide bone stash and didn't upset your dog makes me wonder how well you and your dog know the perpetrator. A lot of burglaries are committed by people in the neighborhood.
There's some great wireless security systems that aren't incredibly expensive. I would get one asap.
I think there have been some great tips on how to make your home less enticing to burglars.
My dad had a good list
keep porches and house entrances well lit keeping bushes and trees cut down so anyone trying to peek into windows can be seen and no one can hide and ambush you at your door make sure that no one can see in when your curtains are drawn (especially bedrooms) try not to keep expensive items where they can be seen from doors or windows visible to neighbors/people walking down the street keep valuables well hidden when you leave safes that can be picked up and carried off easily will be --many come with kits to bolt to the floor give a trusted neighbor at least a cell phone number so they can contact you in an emergency record serial numbers and take photos of all your electronics and other valuables (good for other disasters or fire as well) renter's and home insurance will let you take out extra insurance for jewellery, art, etc. Policies have caps on how much they will pay for jewellery, etc, so the riders ensure that everything will be replaced
When dh and I travel, I tend to bring my most valuable jewellery depending on where we're going, like to my inlaws, etc. I don't have much anyway, and there's a few pieces I couldn't replace.

I have been thinking of you since you posted and wanted to check back to see how you are doing.
Also, I was wondering if the police have considered whether this may have been someone who knows what you had under your tree (a lot of electronics). Just a thought.

I am so sorry. Our house was vandalized when I was a child (we were away on vacation and neighborhood kids knew that) and it was really traumatizing for all of us.
I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I'm sorry you had to experience this. I hope that insurance will cover your loss, but the feeling of being violated, I can't imagine! Big hugs!!!

I'm so sorry that happened to your family!
Just to add to the tips mentioned in this thread - if you move into a new apartment or house, check to make sure all of the windows are locked. My neighbor who lives in a double (1/2 a house) across the street was robbed (while she was sleeping). The robbers entered her apartment through an unlocked window. She had never opened the window and when she had moved in didn't check to make sure it was locked. The previous tenant had left it unlocked.
