I've tried to watch the movies, but I just can't get into them. At all. I can't be the only one, right?

Nope. I raise my hand. I have NEVER seen any of the star wars movies.
Don't plan to, either.

<has heart attack>
All my children have Star Wars names. This year we modified our advent calendars to countdown to Star Wars instead of Christmas. I get teary every time I think of taking my children for their first Star Wars movie in a theatre. We have opening night tickets.

Seen them all. Will see the new one. Love all things sci-fi. Still don't get star wars and the crazy fan base. At all. Imo there is much better sci-fi out there.

Perhaps you're just not geared for that kind of thing. I mean, there are people in the world who are NUTS for cauliflower and can't get enough of it. I do not understand the appeal of a cruciferous vegetable that smells like the wrong end of horse when it's being cooked and has a taste that so underwelming that one has to drown in sauce in order to get it down. Personally, I was one of those who stood in line back in 1977 and I think Star Wars is where my love of Sci-Fi was born (though I already loved Star Trek). It was the opening shot of Star Wars when we saw the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer chasing down a small Alderaanian cruiser. No one had ever seen anything that amazing on a big screen before - it'd never been done like that! And the whole movie was just full of new, innovative Sci-Fi - stuff we've always dreamed of but never thought we'd live to see like that. Anyway, that's why I love it.

I watched the movies at some point. Probably with my friend who is a Star Wars fanatic. I was yawning the whole way through. SciFi in any form just isn't my thing. I'm fine with ET, because it takes place on earth, I'm fine with Independence Day, because it takes place on earth etc. But when they are flying around in spaceships, fighting with non-human species... Just not interested. It is too far-fetched and improbable for me to get invested. I like movies and shows about humans, and human emotions and characteristics. My least favourite X-Files-episodes, were the alien ones. My favourites were the monsters and creatures that were earthbound. But I am pretty sure Star Wars is a very universal story. If you strip the movies down to its core, take away all of the costumes and spaceships, it's all about good vs evil. The epic battle, and with a twist at the end (Luke, I am your.....). I can see why some people are into it. But I just don't get it. I have acknowledged there is a new movie coming out, because my friends who REALLY like Star Wars have been spamming my FB-feed with a countdown to the premiere. Bless them.... I am counting down the days for the new Sherlock episode, so I'm probably just as annoying as the Star Wars-fans

I have always enjoyed Star Wars (the 1st 3 made more than the prequels) but actually am surprised how excited I am to go tomorrow night. Can't wait.

I am the only one of my family of 4 who has never seen a complete Star Wars movie. just not interested. But I should own a piece of the Star Wars franchise considering the money I have spent on their stuff over the past 2 decades.
My older son has had tickets since they first came out and he and his friends have really authentic costumes they will be wearing tomorrow night, including a $200 light saber he got for Christmas last year, and it's not even one of the good ones!

I've seen about 30 minutes of one Star Wars movie. It did nothing for me and I moved along. DH and ODS are big fans and giddy with excitement about the new movie. YDS will soon be introduced to the actual movies. He knows some of the main characters already. If he likes them, great. If not, he can join me in other activities while the other two get their geek on

I've been having a Star Wars movie marathon with my oldest son in preparation for the new movie release. I remember seeing Return of the Jedi in the theatre when I was a kid and the excitement I felt. I'm a bit nostalgic about the new release and seeing that same excitement in my son. Anytime I get to geek out with my kid is a good time. Hopefully this series will steer clear of characters like Jar Jar Binks. Ugh, horrible annoying character.

Have your DS check with the theater he's going to before he takes his light saber. Many in our area are allowing costumes, but only if your face is entirely visible and no accessories or props that could be weapons, including light sabers, will be allowed into the theaters.

I've slept through 2 of the movies at the theaters when I was younger. I've tried to watch them but they're so soooooo boring. DH on the other hand thinks I'm crazy and he picked the wrong wife to marry since I feel this way LOL!

That was me! although I was nine, I think, so that colored my opinion somewhat, also... It was just. so. different, and poignant. (to a nine year old, at least... lol!) EVERY time I see that cruiser scene go across the screen, even if it's only our television, I STILL get a fluttery feeling in the pit of my stomach. Heck, just hearing the 20th Century Fox opening credits music still does that for me!! ETA: my love for the original movies (IV, V, and V1) and the dissapointment I felt about the next three movies (I, II, and III) is so strong that I'm almost not sure I want to even see the new movie... at least not till I see a number of reviews. (I'm not sure I can take another disappointment, lol!)

But - you see-- that is what Star Wars IS about -- it is Biblical (com'on people... what do you think "the Force" symbolizes anyway), it is operatic, it is every story ever told ... but laid in a new place.

I saw the original Star Wars in the theater when it came out in 1977 and it was truly ground-breaking in terms of special effects and had a universal and compelling story. I definitely liked the first trilogy better than the second (as we call him at our house, the wooden Hayden Christensen, was just bad casting). I was hugely pregnant with DS when The Phantom Menace came out and slept through the last half.
But DS is a HUGE Star Wars fan and it makes me very emotional that we have that connection. So between that and seeing Harrison and Mark and Carrie again, I'm going to be a sobbing mess when we go to see it Thursday night.
Also, as an aside, the concept of The Force comes closest to my theological beliefs.

I just don't care. My DH has preview tickets tomorrow night- he's going with friends from church. I'd probably have gone with him if not 8.5 mo pregnant, just because it would make him happy to experience it with me. But as it is I don't have enough energy to do the things I {have} to do, let alone things I have zero interest in.
Our oldest son is 8.5- he doesn't car about it. The younger one isn't quite 6 yet, so he can't see a PG13 movie until we preview it first, but he can't wait to see it. And honestly, I'm not sure where his excitement comes from, he hasn't seen any of them yet?
To each his own. I will say, we were an all-girl family growing up, and neither of my parents were Star Wars crazy. I think my lack of interest stems from growing up with it on the periphery of my life. I missed the SW craze as a child, and episodes I-III were just not good.
