Might not be credible but I'm sorry--the stakes are too high if "they" are wrong. Ds would be having a holiday.

This happened at my daughter's school on 12/7 and at a different school in the district the next day. We got an email from the school on 12/6 at 10:30 pm. They had already determined who the issue was and were taking disciplinary action. I work very early and so, I didn't see that email until I was already at work and my sophomore was on her way to school. I am surprised at the stupid things they text us about, but this wasn't one of them (maybe a character limitation). The school was very empty that day, I think attendance was down 30%. I feel like a jerk for having sent her in, but I think I would have made the same decision even if I had seen the message previously. They said they already knew who it was and had taken action. I have to trust someone and I can't believe they would put the kids at risk.
Sometimes such a scary world we live in now.

I have to trust someone and I can't believe they would put the kids at risk. I think that's pretty much where I fall, as well. Life is not risk-free, unfortunately, and we have entered into an era where the risks can be huge. I trust these people with my kids every day, and I have to believe that if there was any real thought that the threat was real, they'd err on the side of safety. I agree, also, with the person who said (something along the lines of) the threats we are notified of are probably not the ones we need to worry about being real. I'm also someone who voluntarily got on an overseas flight 10 days after 9/11. It was for an already-scheduled trip, and yes, I was a bit nervous, but also figured as many here have said - that there was so much vigilance right then, I was probably safer than I've ever been. But yes, it's a hard call to make just for yourself, much less for your children.

One of the largest in the country. And apparently we've received a threat similar to those in Los Angeles and NYC. They don't believe it's credible and school will be held tomorrow ... but is this what it's going to be like now? I'm thinking attendance tomorrow will be light. My kids are also students in the district. Would you send your kids to school? What if the earlier baseless threats were just to lull us into complacency? I sent my DS much to his dismay His band was supposed to perform at WUE for their holiday parties today, but the principal canceled that. He's at least happy he doesn't have to wear his formal band uniform all day, and I was glad to not have to iron it. I work just down the street, so I can get to his school pretty quickly if need be. Honestly, I would have kept him home, but they are in the middle of midterms.

Is anything done to people who are found to have actually initiated these threats? I believe there's a threat around here and they had dogs come in and clear the school. At the very least they should sue the individuals making the threat for the cost involved! That might persuade people from actually doing it.

Funny thing? I have the news on in the background and haven't heard a single thing about it. They covered the LA and NYC threats generously, but not today's. Nor have I seen it on twitter and I follow just about every news agency there is. Does that mean we are already becoming used to it??

Merge, did you see the contents of the email? I just read it. It is pretty over the top. I actually, for a minute, thought those French teenagers sent it LOL!

I was interviewed by the paper at drop off this morning. The reporter asked if I planned to send my kid to school. The one sitting in the passenger seat? Wearing his uniform? About to climb out with his backpack at 7 am? Nah, we're just driving by and then going home again.

I lived this after 9-11. We lived oversea's, & DD's schools were routinely threatened. Sucked *ss, nothing like already having your DH deployed to a war zone & have some idiots threatening to make your 6 year old's school the next war zone.
Just sorry it's happening now. I can honestly say I don't think if these were true threats, there would be any notice.

I'm in 5th largest district in country (Las Vegas and surrounding areas). We received threats this morning. The district notified parents and staff. I am not worried and will be teaching tomorrow, as usual.
However, after that, I'm taking the next two weeks off!!!
