I woke up a bit ago to hearing the Lennon Sisters singing on TV. it was the jim Bakker show with Mondo de la vega, his wife and their 5 yr old twins (Mila and Melo?) on it. His wife is the dd of Mimi Lennon. They played a clip from when Mimi had her debut with her 4 famous sisters on the LW show. She was 4 yrs old and terrified - you could see it in her eyes. The 4 older girls were just as I remembered them on the LW show.
anyway, little Mila is Mimi's gd! and this yr Mimi and Mila did a song together for the Lennon's Christmas show at the Andy Williams Theater in Branson. it was just darling seeing Mimi dance and sing with her little 5 yr old gd!
Mimi is now 60, Janet 67 ? peggy 79 I think. That should put Kathy and Diane between 67-79) Mimi's dd listed their ages and said they were all very proud of their ages - and still dancing and singing. She also said that 3 of Janet's gds also sing and dance in the show.
I remember (jogged by another clip they ran) seeing Janet, Mimi and maybe Kathy on the JB Christmas show 5 yrs ago ! I know it was just 5 yrs back because they said the twins would be 5 this Christmas and on that show the 3 sisters were holding newly born grandbabies and singing to them. 2 of those gbabies were Mila and Melo (not sure about the spelling) and I think Kathy's new grandbaby.
thought I'd post this in case anyone wants to catch the clips of them. It'll rerun here at 10 pm AZ time on TCT - I'll rewatch the rerun tonight to recatch them! I do remember them saying this was their Christmas show and would run on Christmas Eve and Day. Since today is neither of those, that might mean this same show will rerun for a few days if anyone wants to check on those days. Here on directv the show is on maybe 3-4 times a day on different church channels. ctn, tct and maybe daystar.
boy, reading those age numbers up above makes me feel so very old...

I just barely, barely remember them from when I was a little kid. Like, I think the teenaged babysitters talked about them or something. Maybe we had Lenon sisters paper dolls? You're making me feel older than dirt.

Yes, I'm old and yes, I remember the Lennon Sisters. My grandmother was a huge fan of the Lawerence Welk Show back in the day and they were regulars on there. I also remember playing with my Lennon Sisters paper dolls.

I remember them very well, and I actually had a book written for teen girls with Janet Lennon as the heroine. I think I still have the book.

Another one whose family watched the Lawrence Welk Show And I can remember on my grandfather's 90th birthday my mom and three aunts dressed up like the Lennon Sisters and lip synced to their version of "Roll Out the Barrel." Not sure exactly how but my great grandfather had some connection to the song as he owned a cooperage business around WWI.

Yes the Lennon sisters were big in the 50's. I had a friend that went to the same Catholic school they went to and we would see them at school carnivals and such.

I'm another who watched with Grandma. And her two sisters and her brother. It was a huge family event!
When I stayed with them, I was only allowed to watch LW, the Waltons, and Little House. When she caught me watching Mary Tyler Moore once, I got a stern talking to. It's a good thing she never caught me watching Phil Donahue !!!

We were just watching an old LW show on PBS last weekend. My boys were even, sorta, watching it.
The Lennon sisters were on it. I remember them from LW and my mom talking about them from time to time. Plus, the SNL parody is awesome.

Lennon sister paper dolls? darn, I missed out on those!
the pbs lw shows have the LS on it? i'll have to watch it - I checked in on it once but no lennon sisters. We always watched it on Sat night too.
it's on here again and I've settled down to watch. earlier my eyes and my brain didn't really focus because I was still half asleep.
oops, the boy twin is Mateo! Milo is a new gchild of the Bakkers. Mondo's wife (dd of Mimi Lennon)is Beth.
deedee (Diane) 76, peggy is 74, Kathy is 72 and Janet is 69 - those are the correct ages. I posted from my foggy memory earlier. I was thinking Peggy was the oldest (I always did confuse peggy and deedee regarding who was the oldest). Seems it was a girl about every 2 yrs. Maybe a few of the boys between Janet and Mimi. a total of 12 kids - 6 of each. The youngest of the girls is Ann. Mimi sang too just not usually with the other 4. when the older ones started to retire from the regular singing Mimi joined with Janet and I think it is Kathy.

Oh yes. We watched the Lawrence Welk show in reruns on PBS every Saturday night when we were at my grandparents' house. It was the first in the lineup--then we watched Are You Being Served and Keeping Up Appearances and then Doctor Who. That was the public television lineup for Saturday night in the 1980s in my state!

I think they might have had their own Christmas specials too. Anyone remember the King Family christmas specials or the Mitch Miller sing-a-long specials. Geez I'm getting old!

I also remember playing with my Lennon Sisters paper dolls. We loved the Lennon Sisters and had their paper dolls too! When Janet was young she didn't seem as pretty as the others but blossomed so much when she got older and became the prettiest ~ at least to us.

If it was a Saturday and we were at Grandma and Grandpa's house we had to watch Lawrence Welk. On a weeknight, you stayed up to listen to Johnny Carson's monologue on The Tonight Show then it was time for bed.

I remember those Christmas specials with Claudine. As a little girl, I thought she was gorgeous and I loved her voice. I was so sad when they split. I remember years later she was charged with murder in the death of her boyfriend. It was a huge sensation, and Andy supported her all the way through it. I think she basically got out of the whole thing.
