I am right there with you! I will see you an unnecessary apostrophe and raise you one. Our last name has an 's' on it, like Jones. Sometimes people will write it as Jone's. "The Jone's Family." Okay, really?? If you haven't seen this video yet, you will love it. Weird Al's "Word Crimes." Enjoy!
I have family that are the Joneses. It drives them bananas. And, we watched this video over last weekend at the beach. There were 10 of us, all family, and we spent the entire weekend saying "LITERALLY..." in front of every sentence.

I'm with all of you. These errors bug me. And I have been known to point them out, like when a bookstore had signs to label their sections and one said "Stationary" in big letters along the wall. My question is: Do people who make these errors read threads like this and recognize their mistakes, or does it all go right over their heads? Some recognize themselves, hang their heads, and then I feel guilty for making them feel bad. (Badly?) Most shake their heads and think we're just a bunch of crazy old ladies with nothing better to worry about. Which, in my case, may be the truth.

It is VIPs with the small s. Similar to YMCAs when speaking of more than one of them.
